The most famous glittering place in New Hai City, the Chinese version of "Moulin Rouge".
Xu Zhuohua is well-versed in modern history. The Paramount Ballroom has many connections with various events, and many famous people from China and abroad have come here because of its reputation.
Spending lavishly is the norm here, and the phrase "a sea of beauties" doesn't quite capture it; the Paramount Ballroom is truly a place of extravagance and dazzling glamour.
Led inside by a smartly dressed waiter, Xu Zhuohua immediately spotted the dancers on stage in blue velvet dresses, their figures graceful as they twirled the foxtrot.
People sat in twos and threes below the stage, all dressed in bright clothes, holding glasses of wine, listening to the beautiful singing.
Xu Zhuohua was immediately captivated and stood there in a daze.
Words cannot convey the impact of a real-life scene as strongly as words.
Luo Yunqiao occupied a small, high round table, and the three of them sat together. A waiter brought over freshly brewed agave.
Xu Zhuohua took a sip, and it was bitter and astringent, not tasty at all. It even stuck in her throat, and she almost vomited.
"Ugh, this tastes awful."
Luo Yunqiao smiled and said, "Oh dear, this stuff needs to be savored slowly; you can't drink it so quickly."
She took a small sip, her face full of enjoyment, but Xu Zhuohua disagreed. This stuff tasted like sparkling water without bubbles, or like alcohol diluted with water, even worse than an iced Americano.
She still prefers Coke and Sprite, but unfortunately, they haven't been sent over yet.
Cheng Muyun took a small sip, then placed the glass directly on the table. "It doesn't taste good."
Luo Yunqiao also put down his glass. "It really doesn't taste good. Brother Mu Yun, don't you come to the Paramount often? What kind of alcohol do you usually drink?"
Xu Zhuohua also looked at Cheng Muyun. It has to be said that under the bizarre and dim lighting, Cheng Muyun's face was truly exquisite. His lips were so red they looked like they were dripping blood, like a vampire who was active at night. His deep eyes were captivating.
"They all taste terrible."
They're hopeless!
Xu Zhuohua thought to himself, "Miss Luo tried to start a conversation with you, but you turned out to be a conversation killer. You'll regret it later. When you become a widower, you'll have something to cry about!"
The music stopped, and the dancer, taking small, quick steps and covering her thighs with her hands, stepped off the stage.
A man in a red velvet suit walked onto the stage. "Ladies and gentlemen, next up, Ms. Hu will perform a song called 'Hong Kong Night.' Please welcome her!"
Applause erupted, and Xu Zhuohua wondered if this Miss Hu was the same Miss Hu from before.
Luo Yunqiao whispered in Xu Zhuohua's ear, "Miss Hu is the new top star of the Paramount Ballroom. Her singing voice is captivating, and many people like her."
That's right. Singer Hu Moli was a sensation, and her song "Hong Kong Night" propelled her to the top, but she lost her life due to opium addiction.
Hu Moli, dressed in an extremely form-fitting cheongsam, walked gracefully and slowly to the microphone.
Xu Zhuohua was stunned; she was so beautiful!
With her exquisite features, bright eyes and white teeth, and a touch of exotic charm, Xu Zhuohua felt that she was radiant even without the stage lights shining on her.
Xu Zhuohua held her breath, knowing that being able to hear Hu Moli sing "Harbour Night" live meant her time-travel trip was worthwhile.
It truly sounded like heavenly music.
When the song ended, many people in the audience threw silver coins, jewelry, flowers, and even gold bars at it!
This unrestrained way of expressing himself completely shocked Xu Zhuohua.
Is he that fierce?
Luo Yunqiao took out a few silver dollars from his small bag and threw them onto the stage.
Xu Zhuohua also wanted to give a tip, but she didn't bring any money with her when she went out.
Luo Yunqiao threw in a few more silver dollars, and it was clear she was very happy. Xu Zhuohua's hands were itching even more.
Just as she was watching with bated breath, a hand suddenly appeared before her, with a dozen or so silver coins neatly arranged in its palm.
Xu Zhuohua turned her head, and Cheng Muyun raised his chin, gesturing to her.
"Throw it up if you like."
Xu Zhuohua immediately grabbed all the silver coins. The people in front of her stood up, and she also stood up straight and threw them up one by one.
Sure enough, spending money makes people happy. Xu Zhuohua became more and more excited as he threw the coins, and finally almost shouted as he threw all the remaining silver coins onto the stage.
When she sat back down, Luo Yunqiao and Cheng Muyun looked at her in surprise. She covered her face and explained, "I couldn't help myself, I couldn't help myself."
Luo Yunqiao smiled and said, "I didn't realize you were so...lively."
Xu Zhuohua was so embarrassed she wanted to disappear into the ground, thinking, "My persona is ruined! I'm supposed to be a naive, shy, old-fashioned girl who's never seen the world!"
Suddenly, a group of more than thirty people dressed in police uniforms and carrying guns rushed in through the door and quickly brought the situation under control.
Chen Hede, dressed in a black uniform and wearing a matching black overcoat, walked in slowly, holding a pistol.
"The police are investigating a case. Someone has reported that opium is being stored here. We ask for your cooperation in the investigation."
Xu Zhuohua looked at Hu Moli on the stage. Hu Moli gripped the hem of her skirt tightly with both hands for a moment, then let go.
Police officers walked into the crowd and roughly separated the men and women on either side. When they reached Xu Zhuohua's table, they pointed their gun butts at the three of them.
"Men go to the left, women go to the right, don't just stand there."
Xu Zhuohua swallowed hard. This is the Paramount Ballroom! Everyone here is rich and powerful. Every inch of land here is worth its weight in gold. Brother, if you talk like that, you'll easily become cannon fodder!
Cheng Muyun remained unmoved, even smirking as he looked at the police officer. No one knew what kind of background he had, but the officer suddenly raised his gun butt and smashed it towards Cheng Muyun.
"Hurry up and move!"
Cheng Muyun dodged, raised his hand and grabbed the police officer's neck, then pulled him into his arms. His other hand had somehow produced a pistol, which he pressed against the officer's temple.
