Chapter 48 is quite unlucky.

The whole family slept soundly and got up very early this morning.

When Cheng Yue got up, she saw Chen Tong and Chen Ning busy cooking in the kitchen again. Since they wouldn't listen to her no matter how many times she told them, she simply let them be.

Go to bed early and wake up early; that's just how your biological clock works.

The two sisters lit a fire and cooked a large pot of corn porridge. Cheng Yue thought for a moment, then put a steamer in the pot and steamed a large bowl of egg custard, along with a few steamed buns.

With a mix of dry and soupy dishes, eggs, and pickled mustard greens, the nutritional value is just right.

The Chen sisters, Chen Tong and Chen Ning, were secretly astonished. Their mother had cracked open a full eight eggs!

After breakfast, Chen Lin led the ox out of the shed, and Chen An helped hitch it onto the oxcart. The family got ready and went out.

As the oxcart passed through the village, the villagers were filled with envy, watching longingly and marveling at it.

Cheng Yue greeted the villagers and headed straight for the village entrance.

As soon as she arrived at the village entrance, she saw Zhao Shi and Li Manying standing at the door, craning their necks to look, as if they were waiting for her on purpose.

Seeing Cheng Yue shudder for no apparent reason, Li Manying chuckled and said, "Sister-in-law, let's go set up the stall."

Cheng Yue glanced at the two of them. "What's wrong?"

Li Manying seemed fine, but Zhao's eyes were fixed on her with a vicious glare, as if they were poisoned. Was she about to cause trouble again?

"No, no, it's nothing. I just heard that my sister-in-law's family got a cow, so I came to take a look."

Li Manying's face twitched, her smile more painful than a grimace. Cheng Yue's expression was exactly the same as when she hit her that night—it was terrifying.

Zhao glared at Li Manying with a pout, "You coward, what are you afraid of her for? You're her sister-in-law, do you think she'll let you shit on your neck?"

Thinking about Li Manying being beaten, Zhao felt heartbroken and her lungs ached. It wasn't that she felt sorry for Li Manying, but rather because of the ten taels of silver.

In just half a month, Cheng Yue had swindled thirty taels of silver from them. That much silver was enough to marry off several wives to her two grandsons. Now, it's all gone into Cheng Yue's pocket.

Thinking about money made her unable to eat or sleep, and she even developed large blisters in her mouth. It was all Cheng Yue's fault for being so vicious; she was deliberately trying to make things difficult for them!

It's also Li Manying's fault for being so incompetent and not being careful enough. If we had listened to her, we wouldn't have been caught, beaten up, and had to pay ten taels of silver for nothing!

If it weren't for the sake of Sunsun's reputation, Gao would have divorced her no matter what!

What angered her the most was that after Li Manying was beaten, she seemed like a different person. Instead of seeking justice from Cheng Yue, she kept giving her the cold shoulder.

Upon hearing this, Li Manying immediately changed her expression, glanced at Zhao with disgust, and then turned and went into the house.

How dare you call her a coward? I wonder who it is that got choked and didn't dare to utter a sound.

She realized that Zhao Shi, as a mother-in-law, was a bully who preyed on the weak.

Cheng Yue used to be gentle, so she would nag her relentlessly. Now that Cheng Yue has become more assertive, she can only vent her frustration verbally.

She used to fawn over Zhao Shi all the time, and yet she still got scolded whenever she wanted. Now she does nothing all day, and Zhao Shi still can't do anything about it, can she?

Cheng Yue was too lazy to deal with the mess between the two of them, and was about to drive away with the ox when Zhao Shi said angrily, "Let me get on the cart, I want to go to town!"

That wretched woman, can't she see she needs to take a car? She insists that her mother-in-law shout it out herself.

Cheng Yue reached out her hand, "Okay, fifteen coins, give it to me."

"Fifteen coins? Why don't you just rob someone?!"

Zhao was so angry that her chest heaved violently. She didn't need to pay for riding in her own oxcart, let alone fifteen coins. Was Cheng Yue out of her mind or did she think she was stupid?

“We have a lot of stuff, and the ox is already working very hard. My mother-in-law is so sturdy; if you come up here, won't the ox get even more tired? Fifteen coins is the ox's compensation for its hard work; it's not much.”

Hearing Cheng Yue speak like that, Zhao Shi became even angrier. "No matter how precious the ox is, it belongs to my son. What belongs to my son is mine. How dare you not let me ride in the oxcart?"

Chen Tong frowned and said, "This cow belongs to its mother, not its father."

"You wretched girl, who gave you the right to speak? Even your mother belongs to your father, what's a cow to you?"

Cheng Yue coldly said, "According to your mother-in-law, you're still your father-in-law's son, so why didn't you go to his funeral after he passed away?"

"you!"

"Oh dear, Granny Zhao, how can you be so shameless? I don't know who said that even brothers should keep clear accounts, but now you're trying to take advantage of Chen An's wife?"

Aunt Li came out from next door carrying a basket and said sarcastically to Zhao Shi that the two of them had fallen out, and she was too lazy to even call her Sister-in-law Zhao anymore, and just called her Granny Zhao.

Zhao was about to call Aunt Li by her first name, but remembering her fighting prowess, she swallowed her words and could only stubbornly say:

"This is my son's oxcart. I can ride in it whenever I want. Why are you forcing me to do this?"

Aunt Li rolled her eyes and spat, saying, "Some people have skin so thick that even an axe couldn't break it. They think they can just sit down like that? Don't they know their own limitations?"

Then he smiled at Cheng Yue and said, "Chen An's wife, you should hurry up and leave. Don't let this bad luck waste your time."

It's still early, so we can't afford to waste any more time. Let Zhao suffer a little setback as an appetizer before the main course.

However, Aunt Li was right; running into Zhao Shi so early in the morning was indeed quite unlucky.

"We're leaving right away, Aunt Li. Don't take it to heart with your mother-in-law. She's old and it's not good for her here."

Cheng Yue pointed to her head and gave Aunt Li a wink.

Aunt Li understood and clicked her tongue, saying, "I knew it! No wonder you wanted to go to town. You must be out of your mind to see a doctor!"

Zhao not only gained no advantage but was also scolded, making her face turn red with anger.

She was originally going to town, but how could she go after Aunt Li asked her that? Wouldn't that be admitting she was mentally ill?

"Stop spewing nonsense, you're the ones who're sick, a bunch of idiots, I can't be bothered arguing with you!"

After cursing angrily, Zhao turned and went into the courtyard, slamming the gate shut with a loud bang.

"That's hilarious! If he didn't have hysteria and be mentally ill, how could he be having such wild dreams every day!"

Aunt Li stood with her hands on her hips and laughed heartily. She was happy when Zhao was unhappy, and she thought Zhao was too smug!

After the play ended, Cheng Yue said goodbye to Aunt Li and went to town.

The noodle stall was doing good business as always. After closing up shop at noon, Cheng Yue took a bag of walnut and pork buns out of her spatial storage when the three children weren't paying attention.

These were steamed last night and put in my space. They're still piping hot when I take them out now, perfect for my parents to try.

When the group arrived at the pork stall, after greeting the customers who were buying meat, Wu took out a bag of meat from behind her back and handed it to Cheng Yue.

"Here, take this, and hurry home to rest."

My daughter comes to buy meat around this time every day. They're worried about the crowds and delays, so they prepare everything in advance.

Cheng Yue took the meat and said, "Father, Mother, I have something to tell you today, so I'm not in a hurry to go home."

Upon hearing the words "something happened," Mr. Cheng's eyelids twitched, and he asked worriedly, "What's wrong, daughter? What happened at home?"
