Chapter 126 Renting a Shop

After breakfast, Wei Yuyan brought Xiao Lei and Qianqian along as well.

“Sister-in-law, are you all ready? I was just about to call you, but your brother Zhang has already gone off to drive the oxcart.”

Just as I locked the door, Sister-in-law Xiuhua came over.

"That's right, I was busy running around early in the morning and it's already so late."

Wei Yuyan felt that time really didn't go by quickly.

"It's okay, I can just come back later. There's nothing else to do anyway."

Xiuhua led Qianqian toward the village entrance.

"If you come back late, I'll treat you to a meal in town."

Wei Yuyan hopes to find the shop she wants today.

"No need. Food in town is expensive. A meal there costs at least two hundred coins. That would be too wasteful."

Xiuhua's sister-in-law said that eating in town was completely unnecessary.

"We'll see how things go at that time."

Wei Yuyan thought that if everything went smoothly, it wouldn't hurt to celebrate.

The oxcart took about fifteen minutes to reach the town.

Brother Zhang left the oxcart with an acquaintance, and the group strolled around the town.

“We saw a shop for rent at the market the other day when we were selling steamed buns, so we thought we’d go take a look.”

Xiuhua's sister-in-law remembered.

"Get ready, let's go take a look."

Wei Yuyan nodded.

"Sister-in-law, here is one."

Brother Zhang happened to see a shop for rent on the side of the road.

"Hey, this one looks good too, let's go check it out."

Wei Yuyan thought the shop by the roadside looked quite eye-catching; if it sold steamed buns, it should do good business.

"Is the boss home?"

Seeing that the door was ajar, Brother Zhang knocked gently.

"They've arrived."

First, a sound was heard, and then an older woman wearing a dark green waist-length ruqun (a type of traditional Chinese dress) came out.

"Ma'am, we saw the 'For Rent' sign on your shop, so we came in to take a look."

Sister-in-law Xiuhua chimed in.

"Yes, look, there's more to come."

The aunt opened the door so the light would be better.

There is a large lobby as soon as you enter. If you put a rectangular table there, you can fit about six tables.

Walking further back, you first see a kitchen with a stove and cabinets, but no pots, pans, or anything like that.

"There is a well in the back, as well as two rooms and a storage room."

The aunt led them to the backyard, which was quite spacious and had a stone table and benches.

"Let's take a look at the room."

Xiuhua's sister-in-law opened the door to take a look, and Wei Yuyan followed. She found that the room was quite clean, with a bed, a cabinet, and a table.

"Here is firewood."

Xiao Lei opened the storage room and saw that there were about seven or eight bundles of firewood piled up inside.

"This firewood was left by the previous tenant. If you rent it, we'll give it to you for free."

The woman sat down and observed the crowd.

"Auntie, how much does this cost?"

Brother Zhang thinks this place is pretty good and he'd consider it.

"If you rent long-term, it's a discounted price of 300 coins per month. If you don't rent for a year, it's 350 coins."

The woman thought for a moment before answering.

"Let's discuss it."

Brother Zhang nodded, understanding the situation.

"What do you think?"

Xiuhua asked Wei Yuyan in a low voice.

"I think it's alright, but this is only the first one. I want to see what the others are like."

Wei Yuyan also wanted to see if there was a more suitable place later, since the flow of people here could not compare to that at the vegetable market.

“Auntie, we came out to check on the shop, but the owner doesn’t know yet. Let’s go back and discuss it with him first, and we’ll come back after he agrees.”

Xiuhua's sister-in-law made up an excuse.

"It's alright, you can come anytime. This old woman doesn't mind being disturbed."

The woman knew perfectly well that the group was just making an excuse, but she had a very good attitude; otherwise, she would have been bored sitting there all by herself.

"Thank you so much, auntie."

The group decided to first check out the shop in the market that Sister Xiuhua had mentioned.

"Where are you, Sister Xiuhua?"

When they arrived at the market, Wei Yuyan glanced around but didn't see it.

"It's over here, at the end of the market. It's quieter here, and there's no food for sale."

Sister-in-law Xiuhua led Wei Yuyan to the corner of the vegetable market, or rather, it wasn't really a vegetable market anymore.

It's also on the street, but right next to the vegetable market, so the foot traffic is definitely better than the previous shop.

"There's a bookstore next door."

Brother Zhang pointed to the shop next door.

"Ladies, are you here to look at the shop? Welcome, welcome, please come in and have a look."

The group lingered at the door for a moment, and then the owner came out and invited them to come in and have a look.

"OK".

Wei Yuyan led Qianqian inside first; the shop's lobby felt similar to the one over there.

Upon arriving at the backyard, I discovered that it was smaller than the other side, with only two rooms and no storage room, though the overall layout was roughly the same.

"Boss, how much is the rent here per month?"

Brother Zhang asked.

"The rent here is four hundred coins a month."

The boss smiled and held up four fingers.

"Can't you offer a discount? We plan to rent it long-term."

Brother Zhang bargained.

"If you rent for at least two years, it will be 350 coins."

The boss thought for a moment and answered with a pained expression.

"Thank you, boss. We need to go home and discuss this with our boss. Goodbye."

Brother Zhang thought this place was better, but he didn't know what they were thinking. He decided to go out and discuss it further.

Wei Yuyan was also a little conflicted. The house had an extra room to store firewood, so the shop would definitely do better business, even though the rent was a few dozen coins more expensive.

"Miss Wei, are you looking to rent this place?"

Suddenly someone started talking to her. Wei Yuyan turned her head and saw something. Good heavens.

Isn't this that young master Zhang? It's true what they say, enemies always meet.

"No, my relatives are just here to visit."

Wei Yuyan smiled awkwardly, but dared not say that she wanted to rent it.

"What a coincidence, I own this bookstore."

Zhang Hao woke up a little late today and had just opened the door when he unexpectedly ran into the woman who made his heart flutter again.

"Is that so? That's good."

Wei Yuyan nodded with a forced smile. This person had helped her last time, so it wouldn't be good to ignore him. She would just give him a perfunctory response.

"know?".

Sister-in-law Xiuhua noticed the strange atmosphere between the two.

"Uh, it's the young master Zhang who helped me when I mentioned my money bag was stolen last time."

Wei Yuyan blinked.

"Oh, let's go take a look over there, Mr. Zhang, we'll take our leave now."

Xiuhua's sister-in-law understood that she didn't want to talk to him, so she immediately made up an excuse.

"Farewell."

Wei Yuyan immediately said goodbye and followed Xiuhua and the others.

"Hey~".

Zhang Hao wanted to say something, to call her back, but he didn't know what to say.

"Sister-in-law, which one do you think is better?"

Brother Zhang stopped at the entrance of an alley and asked Wei Yuyan for her opinion.
