Chapter Thirty-One: Threatening Third Sister-in-Law Su Yindi
Jiang's mother glared at Su Yindi with displeasure.
Su Yindi was speechless, almost forgetting how much her mother doted on Jiang Mi. No one could say anything about Jiang Mi; if anyone did, Jiang's mother would get angry with them.
"What are these things made of honey?" Mother Jiang asked curiously.
Several plates of exquisite steamed buns were laid out on the table, four kinds in total, served with two kinds of porridge, namely millet porridge and plain porridge, as well as several kinds of pickled vegetables.
Jiang Mi smiled awkwardly, touched her nose, and explained, "I thought the dough looked fun, so I researched some different styles that are both pretty and delicious!"
You can't exactly say you learned it from a recipe book, can you?
It's best not to show off things of dubious origin.
"Okay!" Mother Jiang said with a smile, "Everyone, hurry up and eat. After breakfast, we have a lot of things to do."
The family sat at the table, enjoying each other's company.
Jiang Mi's cooking skills are truly exceptional; just one breakfast was enough to earn her endless praise.
"The ordinary dough dumplings become soft and delicious in my little sister's hands!" The eldest brother, Jiang Yan, wolfed down his white porridge, pickled vegetables, and steamed buns.
"There must have been a lot of eggs in this bun, right?" Su Yindi said sarcastically from the side.
The buns are filled with a rich aroma of milk and eggs, and the filling is plentiful, making them even more delicious than those made by the small vendors in town.
Su Yindi started trouble while eating.
In rural areas, eggs are a rare commodity. Those who can afford it will raise a couple more hens, and the eggs they lay are mostly hoarded, as no one wants to eat them.
Unless a pregnant woman is giving birth and needs to replenish her body, the family will not generously provide some eggs.
Most of the rest will wait to go to town to sell them and make money.
With so many eggs, even if mixed with sand, it would still be a delicious treat.
These words immediately shattered the harmonious atmosphere.
Jiang Mi stiffened and carefully explained, "I noticed that everyone has been quite busy lately, running around doing chores, so I added a few extra eggs and some goat milk to mix together to help everyone replenish their energy."
Previously, my mother would steam two extra eggs for her every day, so when I woke up early in the morning, thinking that I couldn't eat them all by myself, I mixed them into the flour so that everyone could enjoy them together.
Eggs are considered a highly nutritious food by most people, but unexpectedly, this backfired.
"Eating won't shut you up." Mother Jiang glared at the grumbling Su Yindi and snatched the bun from her hand: "If you don't like it, then don't eat it!"
Hearing this, Su Yindi immediately became anxious, and with a smile, she took another milk-flavored bun from the bowl: "Mom, I was wrong, okay?"
These buns have a lot of eggs in them, they're a very nutritious treat.
Aside from a minor incident, the atmosphere was fairly harmonious.
Everyone who has tried it praises Jiang Mi's excellent cooking skills.
"Mother, since my little sister's skills are so good, how about we let her grow some in the future?" Su Yindi asked from the side, her eyes darting around.
Kitchen work is easy, so Mom shouldn't complain, right?
Before Jiang Mi could speak, her mother scolded her, "Mitang should do whatever makes her happy. If we let her cook in the kitchen, what use are you as her sister-in-law?"
He said one thing and then immediately criticized it.
Su Yindi looked aggrieved: "Mother, my little sister isn't some rich young lady. She should be able to behave properly in public and in the kitchen. Otherwise, her family will blame her when she gets married, saying that our Jiang family didn't teach her well enough."
The room fell silent upon hearing this.
Seeing that her words had worked, Su Yindi's smile deepened, and she continued, "I'm doing this for my little sister's own good. I want her to do some work so that when she goes back to her parents' home, she won't be gossiped about."
She was only trying to help Jiang Mi, so why is everyone so protective of her?
Thinking this way, Su Yindi became even more jealous of the Jiang family's doting affection for Jiang Mi.
Since marrying into the Jiang family, she has worked like a slave, serving the entire family, afraid of being looked down upon.
In the end, the Jiang family actually had a daughter named Jiang Mi who didn't have the life of a young lady but had the illness of one, and everyone took great care of her.
She was fat, short, and unattractive; she had nothing to do with the so-called "young lady."
Jiang's mother's face grew increasingly grim.
Second sister-in-law Liang Lan tugged at Su Yindi's sleeve, signaling her to stop talking.
Su Yindi, who was in the middle of a lively conversation, didn't listen to anything and shouted, "Second sister-in-law, don't pull me, I'm only doing this for my little sister's own good."
Su Yindi continued her incessant complaining, completely oblivious to the increasingly grim expressions on the faces of those around her.
Jiang Mi was so angry that her face turned green. She hadn't intended to argue with her third sister-in-law so early in the morning, but who knew that this woman would pick on her and bite her.
As a good woman, how can she allow her relationship with her family to deteriorate? She should stop it in time and exercise appropriate tolerance; this is the best way to handle the situation.
[Task Reward: Good Woman Value +50, a small bar of soap]
[Failure Penalty: Good Woman Value -100, Electric Shock x3, once every 5 minutes]
Upon hearing this, Jiang Mi sneered.
People are taking advantage of her, and she expects to tolerate it?
Her forbearance only emboldened some people to take advantage of her.
Snap—
A crisp slap broke the deadlock.
Su Yindi's complaining abruptly stopped. She looked at Jiang Mi in disbelief, her tone slightly sharp: "Jiang Mi, how dare you hit me! Don't you even respect me as your third sister-in-law?!"
Even Jiang's mother didn't expect that Honey, who used to be gentle and kind, would actually take action.
[Warning! Host, this will only exacerbate family conflicts. Stop now, or you will be punished with electric shocks.]
Jiang Mi's eyes turned cold, ignoring what the system said. Her tone was icy as she stared coldly at Su Yindi: "I respect you because you are my third sister-in-law, family, and I didn't want things to get so tense! Who would have thought you would provoke me again and again? If you can't stand me, you can just avoid me, third sister-in-law."
Everyone stood there, stunned, clearly not having reacted to Jiang Mi's emotional outburst.
"You..." Su Yindi was so frightened that she took a few steps back, her eyes darting around nervously, and she even stammered, "What...what do you mean by this..."
Why is this fat man so fierce today?
"Hmph!" Jiang Mi snorted coldly and glared at Su Yindi: "If you cause trouble again, Third Sister-in-law, blame me for having Mother send you back to your parents' home. Even if Third Brother comes back, he may not necessarily stand on Third Sister-in-law's side!"
Since tolerance cannot resolve the issue, the only recourse is coercion and inducement.
Su Yindi trembled with fright and did not question what Jiang Mi said.
The Jiang family dotes on Jiang Mi like a treasure, even her husband, who studies in town, does so.
If this matter were to be reported to her husband, he might really send her back to her parents' home.
In this era, the chances of a woman being sent back to her parents' home by her husband's family are very small; she's like a discarded, worn-out shoe.
If her husband listens to slander and gives her a letter of divorce, she will never be able to marry again in this lifetime.
Threatened by Jiang Mi, Su Yindi immediately became obedient, eating her breakfast without daring to say another word.
