Chapter 39 I Lost My Temper
As she mounted her horse once more, and the wind brushed against her cheeks, Shang Ruyi had a strange, almost otherworldly feeling.
Although it was only two days apart.
Perhaps it was because of the past two days, or perhaps it was because she had been living under such immense pressure since her engagement and serious illness, bearing a burden heavier than she had in the previous ten years, that sitting on horseback felt like her soul had returned.
Especially after leaving the city, Shang Ruyi couldn't help but spur her horse and trot along the road.
The crisp sound of horses' hooves filled the air, creating a cheerful melody.
"Miss!"
Tushe'er followed behind on horseback, whispering, "Miss, slow down, the young master has been left behind."
No sooner had he finished speaking than Yuwen Ye said, "It's alright."
Tushe'er quickly shut his mouth.
Yuwen Ye rode his horse at a leisurely pace, while Shang Ruyi, in front of him, was as joyful as a swallow, as if she were about to leap off her horse at any moment.
After running for a while, Shang Ruyi pulled on the reins to slow the horse down. Then she turned around to look at Yuwen Ye behind her, her smile wide and unstoppable. Her rosy cheeks glowed in the sunlight, making even her smile seem to shine.
She asked, "How much longer until we arrive?"
Yuwen Ye said, "It's just ahead. We can't rush around the military camp unless there's fighting nearby. Let's take it slow."
"good."
Shang Ruyi simply held the reins in one hand, leaned back slightly, and began to stroll leisurely.
Yuwen Ye looked at her and said, "Your riding skills are really good."
Unexpectedly, she heard praise from him, but seeing that Yuwen Ye was unusually not cold and aloof, she knew that she needed to pretend in front of outsiders, so she also "acted" without any qualms and said with a smile: "I used to be in the Turkic Khaganate and competed with Turkic children in archery and horsemanship, and I didn't lose. It's just that I haven't ridden much in recent years, so I've become rusty."
Yuwen Ye said, "You're not modest at all."
"Being overly modest is just being fake."
"So, you can shoot arrows?"
"I could, but I was too young then to draw a large bow,"
As Shang Ruyi spoke, she laughed again and said, "Back then, I loved to take my little bow and shoot mice on the grassland. The mice on the grassland were so big, and when roasted, they were just as good as rabbits."
She became more and more excited as she spoke, gesturing incessantly, and her whole face came to life.
After a while, she realized that she had been the one talking the whole time, while Yuwen Ye had just been watching her without saying a word, so she immediately shut her mouth.
He must be annoyed by his own chatter.
Shang Ruyi said, "I'm sorry, I got carried away."
Yuwen Ye looked at her slightly flushed face but didn't say much. He simply raised his head to look ahead and pointed, saying, "We've arrived."
Shang Ruyi looked up and saw a huge mountain rising abruptly from the ground, towering over a thousand feet high, standing like a screen on the earth. At the foot of the mountain, a huge military camp was built against the mountain, with barracks arranged in a close and orderly manner like fish scales. On the drill ground, countless soldiers were lined up and training, with banners fluttering and shouts shaking the sky, creating a solemn and murderous scene.
Shang Ruyi subconsciously held her breath.
A gust of wind blew by, carrying with it the killing intent emanating from the clash of swords. Immediately, the horses beneath Shang Ruyi and Tushe'er shook their heads restlessly and snorted.
Shang Ruyi quickly bent down and stroked the horse's neck to comfort it.
Yuwen Ye asked, "Are you scared?"
Shang Ruyi shook her head.
Yuwen Ye smiled faintly, spurred his horse, and said, "Let's go."
