Chapter 149 Nian Nian is an elementary school student
"Which class was Nian Nian assigned to?"
Wang Xiulin wore reading glasses and tapped her fingers on the screen of her mobile phone, clearing the shopping cart one by one.
Most of them are school supplies prepared for Nian Nian to go to school.
As September approaches, summer in Hai City is coming to an end, but Nian Nian's student life has entered a new stage.
"They were originally assigned to Class 2. Later, we contacted the school and had the Xi and Ji family children assigned to Class 1 with our Nian Nian."
As Shi Guilin spoke, he used a knife to cut through the layers of tape on the large package and took out the small items inside one by one.
In just a few minutes, several piles of small items were stacked beside him.
Shi Guilin sighed, "No wonder the teacher asked for a detailed address when we registered, saying they would send the school uniforms in advance."
He looked around at the various school uniforms and matching shoes at his feet and said with a sigh, "Sixteen sets in total."
"That's quite a lot." Wang Xiulin pushed her reading glasses up. "Hurry up and ask Nian Nian to come over and try them on to see if they fit. If they don't, ask the school to replace them."
Shi Guilin hummed and said loudly: "Nian Nian!"
"Papa!" Nian Nian pushed the picture book away and climbed up from the carpet.
"Come and try on some clothes."
"Oh." Nian Nian carefully brushed off the non-existent dust on her knees and trotted over to Shi Guilin. "Are these Nian Nian's new clothes?"
Shi Guilin pulled out a set of summer school uniforms from a pile of express parcels. He tore open the outer simple packaging and pressed the Western-style shorts and white shirt inside on Nian Nian, gauging them. "They look about right," he said, looking her up and down. "Nian Nian, take these two pieces to the fitting room and change into them. Dad will take a look later."
"Okay."
Nian Nian took the two pieces of clothing and went straight to the cloakroom. Shi Guilin rummaged through the pile of clothes, picked out a few sets of styles that were more discerning in size, put them on his arms, and went upstairs.
He turned the doorknob of the cloakroom and pushed the door open. "Are you ready?"
"I'm done." Nian Nian patted the corners of her clothes with her little hands, just to smooth out the wrinkles, and turned around in front of Shi Guilin, "Does it look good, dad?"
"It looks good." Shi Guilin grabbed his arm and lifted it up. "Is it uncomfortable? Is it tight?"
"Hmm..." Nian Nian pursed her lips to feel it carefully, "It's not uncomfortable, not tight."
Shi Guilin nodded, put the clothes in his arms in front of Nian Nian, and told him to change into them.
Nian Nian tried on one suit after another, and the sizes all fit her well, but she was a little tired of putting them on and taking them off over and over again.
"Papa, is this Nian Nian's school uniform? It looks exactly the same as Brother Duan's." Nian Nian felt a little excited as she touched the school badge embroidered with the words "Hai City Concordia Bilingual School" on the chest of the uniform.
"Yes. School starts in three days, and our Nian Nian will have to wear a new school uniform." Shi Guilin nodded at his nose lovingly and patted his head gently. "Go play first. There's nothing for you to do for now."
Nian Nian happily opened the door and slipped out.
Shi Guilin picked up his scattered school uniforms and walked out of the cloakroom, closing the door behind him. Coincidentally, his aunt was walking towards him from the other end of the corridor.
"Aunt Wu," Shi Guilin handed her the uniform in his hand, "This is Nian Nian's school uniform for the start of the semester. There's half a box left on the first floor. Please take it to the laundry to wash it. Remember to iron it after it's dried."
"Okay. Remember that, sir."
Shi Guilin turned around and was about to leave.
"Hey, sir," Aunt Wu called to him. "After you finish putting the clothes in, should we put them in the cloakroom or hang them in the closet in the children's room?"
Shi Guilin paused for a moment and thought, "Let's put it in the cloakroom first, the closet on the left side of the door."
"Understood, sir."

After being sent away by her father, Nian Nian carried her own little kettle and walked around the house, watering all the flowers and plants. The last one she watered was the weeping jasmine.
The weeping jasmine has grown too lushly in recent years and takes up so much space that it can no longer fit on the small table in the living room, so Shi Jianfeng moved it in front of the floor-to-ceiling window.
After watering the flowers, Nian Nian put the kettle back in its place and turned to the study to "harass" Shi Jianfeng: "Grandpa, can you accompany Nian Nian to the greenhouse?"
Shi Jianfeng shifted his gaze from the computer screen, rubbed the bridge of his nose with two fingers to relieve fatigue, and chuckled, "Okay, Grandpa is tired from work, Nian Nian, come and relax with Grandpa."
The grandfather and grandson walked hand in hand leisurely into the greenhouse. After entering, Nian Nian was like a kitten with only one goal, and stopped directly in front of the flower bed where watermelons were planted.
The tender sprout that was originally only one finger long has now been transformed into a long, green watermelon vine. Not only that, a large, ripe watermelon has also grown on the dark brown soil.
Nian Nian excitedly but lovingly touched the watermelon rind and started the daily question again: "Grandpa, is Nian Nian's watermelon ripe today?"
Shi Jianfeng was not perfunctory at all. He bent down to look at the watermelon and tapped the surface of the watermelon with his bent knuckles, causing a muffled thud.
"It's not cooked yet. Wait a little longer."
"Okay." Nian Nian, like a rigorous botanist, rummaged in her pocket, pinched the watch strap and took out the phone watch that Shi Guilin had prepared for him to go to school. She turned on the camera function, found a good angle, took a photo of the big watermelon in the flower garden, and sent it to Jiang Duan.
Voice message: Brother Duan, grandpa said that today’s watermelon is not ripe yet, so we have to keep waiting.
After sending it, Nian Nian stared at the plump watermelon in front of her, and asked happily yet sadly, "Grandpa, when can we eat Nian Nian's watermelon?"
"The earliest you can do that is after school starts." Shi Jianfeng saw that he was anxious and suggested, "Why don't you ask Auntie to buy you a watermelon today?"
"Oh, Grandpa, it's different. Nian Nian really wants to eat what I grow myself." Nian Nian held her face with both hands and sighed.
"You can't eat hot tofu in a hurry, little fruit farmer."
Shi Jianfeng said: "It is said that the longer you wait patiently for the fruit to mature, the sweeter it will be."
Nian Nian took this to heart. He clenched his fists and secretly encouraged her: "Nian Nian wants to eat something sweet. Nian Nian, don't be in a hurry."
After the grandfather and grandson finished their daily task of visiting Xigua today, they walked out of the greenhouse and went home.
Nian Nian held Shi Jianfeng's fingers, stepped on the cobblestone path, and silently prayed in her heart, the day of eating watermelon will come soon.
