Chapter Sixty-Five: Bait

Before dinner, Kangxi came to the carriage and carried Yin and Qingyan into the courtyard. It was a six-courtyard inn, which had been fully booked for Kangxi's safety.

The surrounding residential buildings were basically taken over, and there were no outsiders living on the three entire streets nearby.

The carriage stopped in the courtyard with two gates. She looked back and saw that there were many people watching outside the mansion. The Imperial Guards in yellow jackets completely broke the original tranquility of the place.

"Little darling, don't look outside." Kangxi covered Qingyan's face with one hand.

If outsiders discover Qingyan's beauty, they are very likely to have other ideas. Before they left the grassland, many princes regretted not letting their children do their best to bewitch her.

She wrapped her arms around Kangxi's neck and buried her face in his shoulder.

Yin followed obediently behind them, and became even more worried after hearing Kangxi's words.

After Qingyan got off the table, she sidled up next to Yin.

They listened from the sidelines, and Yin held Qingyan's small hand tightly; she was very nervous.

Fei Yanggu and the others realized something was amiss in the county town and urged Kangxi to leave early. His safety was their top concern; they absolutely could not allow those people to succeed.

"Your Majesty, you may leave first, this servant will cover your rear." Fuquan was not concerned about his own safety.

Fuquan's words enraged Kangxi, who was not one to fear death. He absolutely could not abandon Fuquan. From childhood, Fuquan had often taken the blame for him; now, for Fuquan to cover the rear would undoubtedly be driving him to his doom.

"No, Second Brother, we can't get out." Kangxi squatted down, holding a teacup, and looked at Fuquan.

Upon entering the county town, they were immediately surrounded. At first, he thought he was talking nonsense, but Kangxi had already figured out all the difficulties.

The Empress Dowager had a keen eye for talent. Back then, among the brothers, she immediately took a liking to Xuan Ye, simply because she hoped to continue the Qing Dynasty.

"Your Majesty, someone has to make a sacrifice in this matter." Fuquan's words startled Yin. In his previous life, this second uncle had always been loyal to the Emperor, but in the end... in order to ensure a peaceful life for future generations, he became the Eighth Prince's backer at the Emperor's behest. In reality, all of this was merely the Emperor's doing.

Fortunately, Baoshan was obedient and always openly cooperated with him in acting.

"Fourth Sister, can we sneak out?" Qingyan pouted. These were all outside matters, none of her business.

Emperor Kangxi and Consort Tong had long noticed that Qingyan was getting restless, and neither of them wanted Qingyan to leave.

"Little darling, your third uncle has a task for you." Qingyan was the youngest child, and she was more likely than Yin to spread rumors among Suo'etu's confidants.

Fei Yanggu wanted to step forward and dissuade him, but how old was his youngest daughter?

"Don't worry, there's no danger at all." Kangxi patted Fei Yanggu on the shoulder, telling him not to worry.

Qingyan nodded with a smile, while Yin looked at her with concern.

"Tomorrow, you and Yin will go shopping together." Kangxi's words stunned everyone. Was he really going to send the two children out alone?

Fu Quan frowned, wanting to stop him, but Fei Yanggu shook his head at him.

Before lunch, Yin and Qingyan put on casual clothes and went out with their guards. Qingyan skipped along, having not walked on the street for a long time.

This expedition was initially launched to expedite Galdan's invasion of the borders, but later it served as bait for certain restless elements within the capital.

"Sisi, when will this end?" she muttered softly, in a voice only the two of them could hear.

Her tired little face made his heart ache.

Consort Tong advised Emperor Kangxi that Qingyan was too young to shoulder the responsibility of this investigation.

"Little darling, don't overthink it, just act as usual." Yin took on Qingyan's responsibility, and the little guy happily ran outside after hearing this.

He looked at the small figure not far ahead and felt a warmth rise in his heart.

"Ouch!" Qingyan looked at the tall man with a helpless expression and a confused look on her forehead. Yin quickly ran over to her.

This man was probably in his thirties. Although he had the hair of a Qing dynasty man, his appearance and physique were definitely not Manchurian. He looked more like a strong Mongolian man.

"Little girl, are you alright?" The man spoke fluent Manchu with no Mongolian accent whatsoever.

Yin's eyes flashed; he felt that the person in front of him was unusual.

"It's alright, Uncle!" Qingyan's soft voice brought a smile to the burly man's face.

She glanced behind her and saw several men looking at her nervously. Qingyan immediately became unhappy.

“Little darling, didn’t you want a clay figurine?” Yin stepped forward and said in Manchu.

After leaving, Qingyan breathed a sigh of relief. Fortunately, Yin had forced her to learn Manchu, otherwise...

"Sisi, I will definitely study hard when I get back!" Qingyan's little face scrunched up; her Mongolian language skills were completely useless.

She held a candied hawthorn in her left hand and tugged at Yin's sleeve with her right.

Yin held her small hand tightly, his mind replaying the man he had just met.

He should be sitting in the position of the superior. Could he be a prince or a duke of Mongolia?

She didn't have many thoughts on her mind; she was happy to buy some local specialties here.

Yin frowned as he looked at the dusty stalls. He would never touch street food; it always looked rather unsanitary.

The little girl is too young to care about the cleanliness of the food she buys; she just starts eating it right away.

"My little darling..."

“If they can eat it, so can I!” Qingyan interrupted Yin directly, muttering to herself.

Yin was speechless. Who was he doing all this for?

"Did you have someone keep an eye on that person?" Qingyan felt something was off after accidentally bumping into him.

She carefully recalled the feeling of hitting the person; even the guards they brought with them didn't carry daggers.

etc!

Qingyan recalled that what she had touched was probably not a dagger, but a crescent-shaped blade.

"Fourth Brother, we must catch that man. He's carrying a crescent-shaped blade." Qingyan was very interested in this specially made weapon. In modern times, she even went to investigate it. It was said that the crescent-shaped blade of the Great Yuan Dynasty had always been in the hands of Galdan's direct descendants.

After the Qing Dynasty defeated Galdan, this sword never reappeared. Later generations speculated that someone had deliberately left a direct descendant for Galdan, or that Galdan, who hanged himself, was merely a suicide soldier.

"Are you sure?" Yin asked in a low voice. He had to admit that Qingyan's luck was really terrible.

Qingyan nodded her little head, and Yin patted her, but couldn't help but mutter to himself.

"Let's hurry back, Father has found the person he was looking for." Yin had received a secret order from Kangxi to find the person who carried the crescent-shaped sword.

Qingyan is rising up. Mouth. She's only been out for a short time!

Yin picked up Qingyan and carried her away without considering her feelings.

"You naughty girl, I still want to play!" She wriggled her little body.

Snap!

Yin slapped her directly on her bottom.
