The white Porsche slowly drove into Lanyue Bay and stopped steadily in front of the villa.
Wen Lingyi and Su Qing had just returned from the airport after sending Su Zhe back. When they opened the car door, the afternoon heat mixed with the scent of grass and trees hit them in the face.
Wen Lingyi narrowed her eyes subconsciously, her gaze swept across the front of the car, and then fixed on the familiar figure not far away.
Zhou Jianxing was standing under the lush camphor tree in front of her house, with mottled light and shadow shining on her through the gaps between the leaves.
She seemed no different from a few days ago, wearing a simple white short-sleeved shirt and gray sports shorts, revealing her thin arms and legs.
But when he saw Wen Lingyi getting out of the car, his body swayed like a camphor leaf blown by the wind, and a trace of surprise flashed across his face, but soon, that fluctuation disappeared, leaving only an almost numb calmness.
What else is she doing here?
Wen Lingyi's heart sank suddenly, her fingers clenched unconsciously, her nails pressing against her palms.
Su Qing, standing nearby, keenly noticed the momentary stagnation in the air between the two of them and the sudden tenseness in Wen Lingyi's profile. She glanced at Wen Lingyi worriedly, her lips moving slightly as if she wanted to say something.
"Qingqing, you go in first." Wen Lingyi walked towards the door without blinking, completely ignoring Zhou Jianxing standing there as transparent air, and walked past the figure on her own.
The door slowly opened, and Wen Lingyi put one hand on the door, motioning Su Qing to come in.
Su Qing nodded, glanced at Zhou Jianxing coldly, and walked quickly past Zhou Jianxing, with the corner of her clothes bringing up a slight breeze.
The door opened and closed again, leaving only the two of them at the door.
"What are you doing here?" Wen Lingyi turned around and crossed her arms over her chest.
She kept a distance from Zhou Jianxing, and her expression seemed frozen, with no emotion visible.
"What? Do you regret it? Or do you feel that we didn't reach an agreement that day?" She paused, her tone mixed with some cold sarcasm.
"Just tell me, how much compensation do you want?"
This sentence exposed the calmness that Zhou Jianxing had tried hard to maintain.
Her brows were furrowed, her lips were tightly pursed, and some emotion surged violently in her eyes, but she suppressed it again.
His chest rose and fell noticeably, and his breathing became heavier.
"Here you go." Zhou Jianxing did not respond to the topic about compensation. He just stretched out his hand and handed a slightly thick brown paper bag to Wen Lingyi.
"Wen Lingyi, please don't say such things anymore." She paused, as if exhausting all her strength before squeezing out the second half of the sentence, "I will hate you."
Hate her? Wen Lingyi felt her nose tighten and a sour feeling rushed to her eyes.
What right does Zhou Jianxing have to say she hates him?
She grabbed the paper bag almost roughly, opened it, and looked down.
Lying quietly inside were two things that were extremely familiar to her - the out-of-print album she gave to Zhou Jianxing, and the gem necklace that shone with a unique neon blue.
My heart felt like it was suddenly and violently pinched by something, and it contracted instinctively.
Wen Lingyi's hands, holding the paper bag, began to tremble uncontrollably. She turned around, her back to Zhou Jianxing, and said in a stiff voice, "Wait a moment."
After saying that, she walked into the house quickly as if she was escaping, and closed the door ajar.
As soon as she was out of Zhou Jianxing's sight, her forced indifference collapsed in an instant, and tears burst out without warning and rolled down her cheeks.
She walked quickly across the living room and up the stairs, her shoulders shaking slightly.
It was clearly she who was determined to end it completely, but when Zhou Jianxing really returned everything and showed the same resolute attitude, it was she who felt reluctant and felt as if her heart was hollowed out.
She rushed into the bedroom, walked straight to the bedside table, opened the bottom drawer, fumbled around in it with her fingers, and touched a small, cold object.
She took it out - it was the ring with unique design and special meaning.
Looking at the small silver ring in my palm, fragments of memories of that night on the rooftop came to my mind.
Although not much time has passed, many details have begun to become blurred, like looking at the stars in the haze through the atmosphere from Earth.
She couldn't remember exactly what they said that night, nor how cold the night wind was, but she clearly remembered that Zhou Jianxing's eyes, looking at her, were astonishingly bright under the twinkling starlight, comparable to the brightest stars.
She also clearly remembered how she stretched out her right ring finger and watched Zhou Jianxing carefully put the ring on it.
She still clearly remembered the moment when the cold metal ring slowly pushed into the base of her ring finger, and the feeling that her heart was completely filled with certain emotions and was about to overflow.
The tears flowed more violently and my vision quickly became blurry.
Wen Lingyi kept taking deep breaths, trying to calm her out-of-control emotions.
She took a few tissues and pressed them hard against her eyes to wipe away the tears that kept flowing. Then she looked in the mirror on the dressing table and practiced moving the corners of her mouth, restraining her exposed emotions and putting on a cold mask.
When she returned to the door again, Zhou Jianxing still maintained the same posture as before, standing there blankly, like a forgotten statue.
Wen Lingyi spread out her palm and handed the ring to Zhou Jianxing.
"I'll give this back to you." Her voice returned to its previous calmness, even adding a hint of chill.
Zhou Jianxing's gaze fell on her palm, where the cold white ring lay quietly.
It is just a piece of metal product. All the attached meanings are artificially given and can naturally be artificially deprived.
Her brow furrowed again.
"It was originally customized for you." Zhou Jianxing said in a low voice without reaching out to take it.
She couldn't find anyone else to give this ring to, so what good would it do to take it back? It would only add to the pain of missing someone.
"You can keep it as a souvenir."
"Nothing memorable." Wen Lingyi said calmly, as if she was talking about a trivial matter. Just like when they were together, the plain "Good morning," "Good night," and "Remember to bring an umbrella when you go out."
She even took a step forward, grabbed Zhou Jianxing's right hand without saying a word, and forcefully stuffed the ring into her palm.
The cold metal touched Wen Lingyi's skin and Zhou Jianxing's.
The best way to deal with it is to return it to its original owner. Originally, Wen Lingyi wanted to throw it away, but considering that it was not a small amount of money that Zhou Jianxing could easily throw away, it would be a pity to waste it.
Since she has made up her mind to break up completely, she should not leave behind any items to remember her by, not even a trace.
After doing all this, Wen Lingyi immediately let go of her hand as if she had completed the last procedure, as if she could not bear to keep in touch for even a second longer.
She didn't look at Zhou Jianxing again, turned around and was about to push the door in.
"Don't go." Zhou Jianxing's voice was obviously choked with sobs, and the moment she turned around, she finally lost control.
She suddenly reached out from behind and hugged Wen Lingyi tightly, wrapping her arms around her waist with astonishing strength.
She knew she shouldn't do this; it was cheap and ridiculous.
But when the necklace was returned, she realized very clearly that this might be the last time they met and the last time they would be close to each other.
"Just let me hold you again, okay? Just for a moment..."
This was the first person she truly fell in love with, Wen Lingyi, whom she could not truly resent even at this point.
However, Wen Lingyi was reluctant to even give this brief, comforting warmth.
Her body stiffened the moment Zhou Jianxing picked her up, and then she began to struggle violently.
She tried hard to pry Zhou Jianxing's hands that were clasped in front of her lower abdomen. The blue veins on the back of her hands even stood out from the force. She was so excited that her voice changed.
"Let me go!" Wen Lingyi's voice rose, with obvious disgust and panic, as if she had really been touched by something extremely dirty.
"Zhou Jianxing, I told you to let go! Don't touch me!"
"I hate you!" is the words that come out of my mouth without thinking during the struggle, and it is also the true words that come out of my mouth under such extreme emotions.
Just as Wen Lingyi shouted this, Zhou Jianxing suddenly lowered his head, opened his mouth, and bit Wen Lingyi's exposed right shoulder hard.
The teeth dug into the soft flesh, and intense pain instantly exploded and spread throughout Wen Lingyi's body. She was already afraid of the pain.
Wen Lingyi groaned in pain, and almost instinctively reacted by bending her elbows and slamming her body backwards.
The collision was so strong that Zhou Jianxing felt pain, and his tightly clamped arms finally loosened.
Wen Lingyi staggered forward two steps and broke away from her arms.
She raised her hand to cover the place on her shoulder where she was bitten. She could feel the clear teeth marks and wetness with her fingertips. She knew without looking that it was bleeding.
Without looking back, she just turned her back to Zhou Jianxing and said in a trembling voice, "I should be loyal to my husband."
She paused. "Of course, you too. So, stop doing this kind of entangled thing. It's ugly."
"A relationship like this should have ended long ago." Her last words were like an icicle, cold and hard.
Zhou Jianxing was completely frozen in place by her words, his face draining of all color. "What do you mean? What do you mean by 'me too'? What am I too?"
She asked eagerly, her heart pounding.
But Wen Lingyi didn't give her any more explanation. She just pushed the door open, slipped in, and then without hesitation, slammed the door shut.
The heavy solid wood door panel separated the two worlds inside and outside, and also completely blocked all of Zhou Jianxing's sight and questions.

In the bedroom, Su Qing was holding the Paraiba necklace and looking at it carefully against the light, her fingertips stroking the cool gemstone surface.
Hearing footsteps, she turned her head and saw Wen Lingyi walking in with her hand covering her shoulder. Her face was pale and her eyes were red.
"This necklace doesn't look cheap." Su Qing put the necklace down, her tone sounding a bit complicated, with a hint of sourness, "You're quite willing to spend money on her."
"If you like it, just wear it." Wen Lingyi walked to the sofa and sat down, her voice still a little unstable.
She released her hand from covering her shoulder and looked down. On the snow-white skin, two rows of clear teeth marks, oozing with blood, looked somewhat horrifying.
"What kind of thing has been worn by a stinky woman? Why are you giving it to me?" Su Qing curled her lips and threw the necklace back on the bedside table.
She walked over to Wen Lingyi and sat down next to her. She couldn't help but shook her head as she watched her pick up an alcohol cotton ball with tweezers and was about to wipe it on the wound.
"Are you stupid?" Su Qing naturally stretched out her hand, took the tweezers from Wen Lingyi's hand, and threw the blood-stained alcohol cotton ball into the trash can.
"Why do you have to use alcohol? Iodine is much less irritating and won't hurt as much." She said, unscrewing the small bottle of iodine.
"Just use alcohol." Wen Lingyi lowered her eyelashes, and her long eyelashes cast a small shadow under her eyes.
She held the shoulder strap with one hand to make it easier to treat the wound, and with the other hand she unconsciously scratched her palm.
"Iodine has color, and when you apply it, it turns yellow and purple, and it looks dirty."
In reality, the pain doesn't really go away, but it may be transferred.
When you feel a sharp and clear pain somewhere in your body, the chaotic and huge pain deep in your heart seems to be relieved for a moment and becomes less unbearable.
The cotton ball soaked in alcohol touched the broken skin, causing a sharp sting.
Wen Lingyi's body trembled and she took a breath of cold air.
This intense physical pain seemed to finally give her an excuse to cry. Tears suddenly welled up in her eyes, quickly soaking the fabric of her chest.
It has been several days, but the sad mood has not diminished at all. On the contrary, after seeing Zhou Jianxing again today and experiencing the embarrassing tug-of-war just now, the sadness became even stronger, hitting her like a tide, almost suffocating her.
Should she just talk it out? Throw all the speculation and evidence in his face in the most ruthless and dishonorable way possible. Wouldn't that be a more satisfying way to end things?
But she found herself too cowardly to face it, to make it clear in person.
I am afraid of seeing the other party quibbling, and I am even more afraid of the truth being true.
Just like Schrödinger's cat, it may or may not exist in a non-observable state, so why do we have to open the box?
Why did you come to hug her again just now?
At that moment, her hair stood on end and goose bumps appeared all over her body. She felt nauseous and disgusted, but her body couldn't help but crave the familiar warmth in Zhou Jianxing's arms.
Scientific research shows that it takes 21 days to develop a habit.
She had long been accustomed to Zhou Jianxing's presence.
Accustomed to her scent, her warmth, her company. But now, I have to forcibly remove this habit from my life.
It is said that the best way to break an old habit is to develop a new one.
Are 21 days enough? Or will she need many 21 days to slowly get used to life without this person and truly let go?
"There are plenty of women." Su Qing carefully cleaned Wen Lingyi's wound and put on a clean medical patch.
Su Qing noticed Wen Lingyi's unusually low mood and softened her voice to comfort her, "I've told you before, loving someone is not a good thing. If you don't fall in love, you won't feel heartbroken, Lingyi."
"I'm not heartbroken," Wen Lingyi remained stubborn, turning her head away, refusing to admit her vulnerability, "I just feel unworthy of myself."
She pulled up the slipped shoulder strap and turned to look at Su Qing: "Qingqing, tell me honestly, is my vision of women really that bad?"
Su Qing felt uncomfortable seeing her trying so hard to hold on.
She sighed, reached out and gently hugged Wen Lingyi, patting her on the back: "I'm sorry, maybe I shouldn't have told you those things."
Seeing Wen Lingyi so sad, she began to doubt whether her original decision was correct.
In fact, she didn't expect that Zhou Jianxing was actually that kind of person.
"The problem will not disappear automatically just by covering it up." Wen Lingyi leaned on Su Qing's shoulder, her voice muffled.
His emotions had calmed down a little, but the wound on his shoulder was still aching, and the sharp pain in his heart was still clear.
She closed her eyes: "I was wrong. From the beginning, I was wrong."
