Qin Yan was hit hard, and his wheelchair couldn't withstand the impact and swayed backward. He had to catch the woman.
When Assistant Wen received the news, he rushed over with a doctor and was shocked that the boss had caught the unconscious woman, and even more shocked that there was blood on the corner of the woman's mouth.
With the help of the doctors, Qin Yan was taken to the ward. When she tried to leave, the doctors stopped her.
"Mr. Qin, please wait here for a moment. The patient has no caregiver and cannot be contacted by family members, so there are some things I need to tell you."
Qin Yan frowned and spoke with displeasure.
"I don't know her."
Assistant Wen awkwardly whispered in his ear, "Boss, that's your fiancée, Yun Nuan."
After finishing speaking, Assistant Wen consciously took a few steps back, afraid that Qin Yan's anger would affect him. Qin Yan was truly displeased this time, staring at the doctor expressionlessly without saying another word.
Although the doctor was somewhat afraid of the man, a life was at stake. Seeing that Qin Yan was willing to stay, he quickly took the nurse to check on Yun Nuan's condition.
As expected, Yun Nuan developed a fever, this time a low-grade one. Qin Yan's wheelchair entered the ward, which was not far from his own, but compared to the setup of his own room, this one looked like a makeshift one.
Everything was empty; there wasn't even a cup placed beside her bed.
The doctor picked up her hand, which had many needle marks on the back. Her skin was fair, and each needle prick would leave her hand bruised and purple.
The nurse deftly inserted the needle, adjusted the drip rate, and then looked at Qin Yan and spoke.
"The patient hasn't eaten anything all day, this injection is an IV drip. Please ring the bell after the injection. It would be best if you could prepare some food for the patient. The list of what the patient can and cannot eat is written here, please prepare accordingly."
After giving the instructions, the nurse pushed the cart away.
Qin Yan pinched his brow and called over Assistant Wen, pointing to the food on the table and giving instructions.
"Go and prepare the food as the nurse instructed."
Assistant Wen nodded and left. He thought his boss would refuse, but he was surprised that the boss accepted it so readily.
In fact, Qin Yan was not as kind as Assistant Wen thought. Yun Nuan was an arranged marriage by his mother, and he had never met Yun Nuan before. The Yun family brought her here a month ago.
He thought Yun Nuan would appear in front of him the next day, but a month had passed and he hadn't seen her until today, when she gave him such a big gift as soon as she appeared.
"Troublesome." He turned his wheelchair around and left the ward.
When Yun Nuan woke up, the IV drip had already been changed to its second bottle. She opened her eyes and saw the familiar ceiling, so she closed her eyes again.
Qin Yan, who was looking at the tablet, couldn't help but scoff when he saw her open her eyes and then close them again.
"If you're awake, stop pretending to be asleep and get up to eat something."
When a strange man appears in a hospital room, most people would ask who he is or resist him. But Yun Nuan showed no emotion and even closed her eyes again after hearing him finish speaking, ignoring him.
Qin Yan paused, his hand still on the document, and a slight twitch appeared at the corner of his mouth. Was Yun Nuan planning to use a different strategy to get his attention?
While she was unconscious, Assistant Wen had already sent her information.
Yun Nuan, nineteen years old. The eldest daughter of the Yun family, her father remarried after her mother's death.
She took a leave of absence from university to recuperate from an illness. She fell in love with a man named Lin Yu. She liked him so much that she even dragged her sick body to celebrate his birthday.
She feigned illness and weakness to gain sympathy and make Lin Yu refuse her advances, while secretly framing a woman named Jiang Miao.
After reading the information, he sneered repeatedly, unsure whether he was laughing at his fiancée for falling for another man, or at his fiancée for having some tricks up her sleeve but not many.
“I advise you not to pretend like this. You’ve heard about what’s going on outside. My second uncle is now in charge of the Qin family. Your stepmother originally wanted you to curry favor with me, but now that I’ve lost my power, she’s given up on you. Why bother pretending to be pitiful? I can’t help you.”
He kept talking to himself, and Yun Nuan felt like he was a mosquito buzzing incessantly in her ear on a dark summer night.
"Don't speak." The dry lips uttered three words.
Qin Yan wasn't sure if she had spoken, so he asked again.
"What did you say"?
She opened her eyes and glanced at him. Was this guy crazy? She had already told him to shut up.
"Shut up."
She repeated it, suppressing her anger, and Qin Yan was amused by her attitude. The information clearly stated that she was extremely delicate and spoke in a soft voice.
This is clearly completely unreasonable.
"You really are good at putting on an act in front of Lin Yu. What? You're too lazy to put on an act in front of me?"
Qin Yan's mocking voice finally earned her a proper look. Yun Nuan slowly sat up, and then smiled at him as if she had just thought of something.
"Yun Nuan in this body is dead. Now a ghost is in her body. If you want to see me pretend, I can do it for you."
Her voice was soft and light, and she seemed to be speaking with some effort.
Qin Yan didn't understand what she was going to do until he saw Yun Nuan neatly pull out the needle, and blood gushed out. His pupils dilated involuntarily.
"You're crazy!"
Her hand hung limply by the bedside, blood oozing from the needle prick. She simply let it be. She glanced coldly at Qin Yan.
"Can you shut up now?"
Qin Yan rang the call bell for a nurse. His face was grim, and his dark eyes were filled with suppressed anger. He had been tricked, and by someone he couldn't even bring himself to scold.
The nurse came in and glared at Qin Yan when she saw the blood on the floor, and then the doctor arrived.
She was still muttering about how Qin Yan couldn't take care of patients, even though Qin Yan himself was still in a wheelchair. Yet, his mental state was much better than Yun Nuan's. Coupled with the gloomy aura surrounding him and his murderous gaze, it was reasonable to suspect that he had scared her.
“Mr. Qin, Miss Yun’s body can’t take this kind of abuse anymore. If you continue like this, you’ll kill her. Please stop.”
The doctor didn't care how powerful this man was; in his eyes, human life was more important.
Moreover, Yun Nuan is widely recognized as pitiful in the entire sanatorium. Since she arrived, she has been receiving injections and taking medicine every day, and no one from her family has come to visit her. They probably all think this little girl is a burden.
Her already frail body has become even more lifeless due to illness; if this continues, she won't be far from death.
Qin Yan listened silently to the doctor's instructions, feeling angry but having nowhere to vent his frustration, so he could only suppress it.
Even as the doctor was leaving, he glanced back with some lingering concern until the ward door closed.
"Is this your trick to deceive people? You even talked about ghosts. Yun Nuan, this trick works on Lin Yu, but it doesn't work on me. I suggest you put it away."
Her eyes were fixed on the view outside the window; she had been up all day. The sun had set.
Actually, this place is perfect for watching the sunrise and sunset. It's a sanatorium built on a mountain. You can see the sea and all the scenic buildings of S City.
She watched silently, without saying a word.
After Qin Yan finished speaking, he saw that she ignored him and just kept looking out the window, so he looked up.
The setting sun dyed half the sky red, both passionate and gentle, with light and shadow intertwining at this moment, while the figures of those looking out the window were blurred into a distorted state.
She was so frail that she seemed about to disappear into the world.
