Tang Chen seemed to vaguely hear Zhang Xiaohua's voice, and originally thought he was hallucinating until he saw her simple fishing boat loaded with large lotus leaves as usual.
Zhang Xiaohua brought the boat closer. Shuisheng saw that it was someone he knew, so he took the initiative to help her tie the boat up, then stepped aside.
"Huahua, why are you here?"
Zhang Xiaohua smiled and said, "I'm going home and happened to be passing by here. Where's your boss Wang? Why isn't he with you?"
Tang Chen patted his chest and said seriously, "I sold it out."
Zhang Xiaohua chuckled, then rolled her eyes and changed the subject: "I remember you said before that you wanted him to accompany you around to see the sights, right?"
Tang Chen nodded and said, "Yeah. What's the matter, Huahua, do you know any good places?"
"Alas, it's just that we are destined to meet. Here, this is for you." As she spoke, Zhang Xiaohua took off the wooden hairpin on her head and handed it to Tang Chen.
Tang Chen took the wooden hairpin, which exuded a faint fragrance, with a puzzled look on his face. What did this mean? It was said that giving hairpins or jade pendants as gifts was a token of love. Could it be that her charm had reached the point where it could attract both men and women? Would her next step be to have no age restrictions? Oh my god: "What is this?"
Zhang Xiaohua explained, "Mid-Autumn Festival is coming up in a few days. There's a lantern festival going on in Qinghe County, not far from here. Are you interested in going?"
"Okay, okay, but what's the point of this?"
Zhang Xiaohua spoke mysteriously, not explaining anything clearly, saying only that she would know when the time came. Then she rowed her boat, singing a song, and drifted away with the current.
In the evening, when Tang Chen returned with her spoils, she walked close to the wall to avoid meeting Wang Yanzhou.
However, things did not go as planned, and Tang Chen, who was walking nervously, was still discovered by Wang Yanzhou. After seeing that Tang Chen had been busy all day and only caught two fish that were not even as long as his fingers, Wang Yanzhou was ridiculed again, just as Tang Chen had expected.
In fact, it wasn't her skill or the river's fault, but the flimsy hook. She almost caught two big fish, but one ran away with her hook and bait, and the other, after carrying her for a while, straightened the hook and ran away with the bait again.
At midnight, dark clouds obscured the moon, and the wind suddenly picked up. The eerie sounds of gongs and bells drifted in from not far away, surrounding the small mountain village and lingering for a long time.
Wang Yanzhou had just blown out the lights and was about to change his clothes for a rest. He had only taken off half of his clothes when he suddenly pulled them up again. He quickly jumped behind the door and said coldly, "Who is it?"
Tang Chen stood outside the door trembling with fear, holding a pillow. He felt a little relieved when he heard Wang Yanzhou's voice: "It's me, it's me!"
The candle that had just gone out was relit. When Wang Yanzhou opened the door, Tang Chen, hugging a pillow and sweating profusely, looked at him and asked, "Did you hear that sound just now?"
Wang Yanzhou said nothing, but simply gestured for her to come in and gently closed the door. Tang Chen plopped down on Wang Yanzhou's bed, still terrified, and said, "I'm so scared! Could this be the legendary corpse-driving?"
As Tang Chen spoke, she stared at Wang Yanzhou intently, fearing that he would suddenly disappear or kick her out. It wasn't until she saw Wang Yanzhou busying around with the bedding that she asked in surprise, "Hey, Boss, what are you doing?"
Wang Yanzhou rolled his eyes at her and explained while busying himself with the things in his hands: "Get a blanket and make a bed on the floor."
Tang Chen was stunned, his heart skipping a beat. After coming to his senses, he put down the pillow he had been holding tightly and joined Wang Yanzhou in getting busy.
Maybe he had a sudden change of heart, or maybe he was just afraid that he wouldn't be able to get rid of her and disturb her sleep, but no matter which one it was, Tang Chen was very grateful to him. The ghostly sound of the gong and the faint voices of "No Trespassing" just now, if she were alone, she would have been scared to death.
Soon, the mat was ready. After Tang Chen drank some water, he consciously sat on the bed with his pillow in his arms. After Wang Yanzhou stretched, he walked over to the bed and smiled at Tang Chen: "Okay, come down."
Without waiting for Tang Chen to think about her reaction, Wang Yanzhou smiled and moved her and her pillow off his bed: "You sleep on the floor."
"……" Wait, Boss Wang, did you get the wrong script?
After a good night's sleep, Tang Chen woke up and told Wang Yanzhou everything about his encounter with Zhang Xiaohua, which he had forgotten to tell him yesterday, including the events of the Qinghe Lantern Festival.
Wang Yanzhou didn't ask much, just asked if she really wanted to join in the fun, then took everyone and set off again. The more he walked, the more vividly he remembered the difficult journey he had complained about, and his pace involuntarily quickened.
Tang Chen can now keep up with Wang Yanzhou and no longer needs to play the "game" of him walking and me chasing.
Just a few hours after leaving the village, the two of them came to a dense forest. Tang Chen tilted his head and looked into the distance. It seemed that there was a person carrying another person stealthily in the forest, and there were also several unidentified objects that looked like people on the ground.
"Hey, boss, that guy is acting sneaky. I seem to smell a secret."
Wang Yanzhou looked at the direction Tang Chen pointed and asked, "Curious?"
"Um."
"Then go and see for yourself. I'm not interested."
Tang Chen stamped his feet and said, "Is it difficult to accompany me to see it?" "...You will die if you don't argue with me for a day."
Wang Yanzhou remained silent, staring intently at Tang Chen. After her cheeks flushed red, she nodded, clearly indicating that she would die if she didn't argue.
