Chapter 48: I Can’t Find Him (Part 1)

Hei Ya was stunned. Saving this girl was purely a coincidence. But he had been following Tang Chen carefully since he left Qingliang Valley. Therefore, he knew about the sacrifice to the gods. It was then that he took advantage of the villagers' departure and jumped into the river to rescue this poor woman with her hands tied. At that time, he thought that this girl was either unloved by her parents or was forced to do so. He had thought that he would send her back after she got better. But now, he had heard of people losing their memory due to illness and car accidents, but he had never thought that drowning could also cause memory loss.

The woman sighed deeply, then looked up at Black Crow with tearful eyes. "I vaguely remember running away from home and being taken in by a family. But it happened to be the day of the river god sacrifice, and their daughter was chosen. When I regained consciousness, I was already bound hand and foot and being carried to a sedan chair."

Black Crow frowned: "This is difficult."

The woman was afraid that the black crow would find her troublesome and abandon her to fend for herself, so she quickly said, "Don't worry, benefactor, I won't bother you. When I feel better, I'll find something to do. Maybe because of the water I choked on, I'll soon remember where my hometown is."

Seeing that she was anxious, Hei Ya quickly comforted her, "It's okay, don't worry. Just think about it slowly. I'll go make some medicine for you first."

"Thank you very much, benefactor."

Black Crow was about to leave with the medicine when something suddenly flashed through his mind. He turned around and asked, "By the way, I've been busy these days. I haven't asked for your name yet, young lady?"

"safely."

"An, Ran. I remember. Then you sit down and have some snacks and change your clothes. I'll go out first." Although Hei Ya didn't know whether An Ran's amnesia was real or not, since he had already decided to save her, there was no reason to stop saving her halfway.

Around these few days, Zhang Xiaohua also left the vicinity of Mingjiang and sent a number of people out, as if they were looking for something.

Zhang Xiaohua watched the time tick by, feeling a bit annoyed. "No news yet?"

"For now..."

Zhang Xiaohua sighed slightly. It was truly a bad year. Why had so many things happened recently? "Well, let's keep looking. Where on earth did that girl go? They're all so worrying."

...After leaving the post station, Tang Chen followed Wang Yanzhou aimlessly for a few days before finally getting impatient. Normally, he would tell Wang Yanzhou where he was going before leaving. This time, he had already left for several days, so why hadn't he revealed any information at all?

Tang Chen was leading the horse. Seeing that the sky had darkened again and it looked like it was going to rain, he looked up and asked the man on horseback, "Boss, where are we going next?"

Wang Yanzhou smiled and said, "Zhang Xiaohua wants to see me. Let's go to Jiangdu first. We may have to stay there for a few days."

Hearing this, Tang Chen threw away the reins in his hand and said, "Ah, let's go back to Jiangdu! That's perfect. You go and do your thing, I'll go find Zhirou!"

"Just figure it out for yourself when you get there."

On the way to Jiangdu City, Tang Chen changed his usual shy attitude and rode on horseback without complaining about being uncomfortable or asking for exercise. By the time they arrived at the destination, they were a few days earlier than Wang Yanzhou had originally planned.

After packing his luggage, Wang Yanzhou was about to go meet Zhang Xiaohua, but was blocked at the door by Tang Chen.

"What's wrong with you?"

"Yes, that one," Tang Chen smiled a little embarrassedly, and made a small gesture while speaking.

Wang Yanzhou shook his head helplessly and said, "You'll probably have to work for me for most of your life to pay me back. Don't you have your own money?" Although his words revealed disdain, his hand had already taken the purse from his waist.

Tang Chen stared intently at Wang Yanzhou's hand holding the purse and explained, "I do have some money, and I'm not planning on cheating you. But the problem is, you have all my receipts. If you don't give it to me, I can't withdraw the money."

Wang Yanzhou's hand holding the purse trembled slightly, "Oh, right, how could I forget this." As he spoke, Wang Yanzhou put the purse in his hand away, and after searching in his sleeves for a while, he actually found a few things belonging to Tang Chen.

"Let's go, see you at the inn tonight!" After Tang Chen snatched the ticket, he disappeared in a flash.

...Tang Chen went to the bank to withdraw some money and went shopping. In her letters to her, Su Zhirou only said that she was doing well and didn't mention much else. Fortunately, Wang Yanzhou was covering her daily expenses, so she had some spare money, which was perfect for buying her some gifts. But she didn't know if she would like what she chose!

Tang Chen carried several boxes of different sizes in his hands, and according to the address on Su Zhirou's previous letter, he found the famous music school in Jiangdu City, Yunshao Mansion.

Tang Chen looked at the gate of Yunshao Mansion, listened to the sound of stringed instruments coming from inside, took a deep breath, and walked forward with his chest held high.

Tang Chen was about to knock on the door when a woman opened it and came out. Seeing someone outside, she was startled and asked, "Miss, is there something wrong?"

Tang Chen nodded and said in a panic, "Excuse me, I'm here to look for someone."

The woman saw that she had a lot of good things and thought she was here to use the backdoor again. She covered her mouth with her hands and smiled, then asked, "Excuse me, young lady, what are you looking for?"

Tang Chen quickly added: "I came to see Su Zhirou. I'm her friend. She told me she was here."

When the woman heard that Tang Chen was looking for Su Zhirou, her expression changed slightly: "So you're Zhirou's friend, sorry..."

After a while, the woman closed the gate of Yun Shao Mansion and left to do her own thing. Tang Chen followed suit, but his slow pace made him look a little lost.

The woman told Tang Chen that Su Zhirou had left Yunshao Mansion half a month ago. Coincidentally, the last time she received a letter from Su Zhirou was about a month ago. This meant that she had already left when she received the letter. This search wasn't entirely fruitless, at least she had found out where Su Zhirou was.

Although he felt a little uncomfortable, Tang Chen quickly adjusted his mood. Su Zhirou might have been too busy to write to him, or the letter might have been sent but not yet reached her.

Following the route pointed out by the woman just now, Tang Chen had just prepared himself to give Su Zhirou a surprise, but when he was about to reach his destination, he suddenly couldn't take a step.

The red sleeves, the scent of powder, the laughter and shouts of people welcoming and seeing off, seemed to have some kind of magic power, attracting the attention of countless men.
