Chapter 56

She glared at Luo Yixiu, but Luo Yixiu glared back at her.

Yi Ning finally realized that she hadn't really been dragged here by Luo Yixiu to attend the poetry gathering. She was there to act as an introducer, so she introduced Luo Yixiu to Lin Mao and Gu Jingming. She was really surprised that her fourth sister, who seemed like Lin Hairu's biological daughter, actually greeted Gu Jingming with a lowered brow and a soft voice.

Gu Jingming was handsome and tall. He'd probably been accustomed to all sorts of attentions from a young age, and he was always polite and gentle to everyone. Yet, he had a certain aloofness and aloofness about him, which others couldn't see, but Yi Ning saw clearly.

Yi Ning wasn't good at writing poetry, and Luo Yixiu was even worse. The only one who was good was Luo Yilian. After writing it, she handed it to Gu Jingming and said in a soft and gentle voice, "Cousin Ming, please help me take a look. I always feel that the rhythm of the last sentence is not right."

Gu Jingming took it and said gently and patiently, "The rhythm is correct. It is indeed a rare and beautiful sentence."

Yining grabbed a handful of melon seeds and ate them. Luo Yixiu, standing beside her, said in a low voice with a sullen face, "Look at your Sixth Sister—she's practically leaning on Mr. Gu."

Yi Ning sighed. Let Luo Yilian go. She didn't care. Luo Yilian was quick-witted and had such a delicate and charming appearance. But so what? Even if Gu Jingming really liked her, would the Gu family, with their status and position, really want to marry a concubine's daughter to Gu Jingming? Gu Jingming was the child of her aunt when she was thirty, raised by Old Master Gu himself. He was even more precious than little Yining.

"Fourth sister, do you want some melon seeds? I taught the servants to fry these melon seeds, adding star anise and peppercorns. They taste especially delicious—" Yining hoped that she would eat more and talk less to avoid making mistakes, so she put her hand over.

Who knew she would be taken away immediately? Lin Mao came close to her and said with a smile: "Cousin Xie Yining, Cousin Mao will not be polite."

He leaned against the railing, seemingly unintentionally placing some of his weight on Yi Ning. He ate sunflower seeds while watching Gu Jingming teach Luo Yi Lian how to write poetry.

Yining took a deep breath and crackled her little fingers.

"Cousin Mao, are the melon seeds fragrant?" Yining asked him with a smile.

Lin Mao leaned down, his brows looking particularly pretty. He whispered, "Cousin Mao wants to ask you, are oranges delicious?" His breath brushed Yining's ears inadvertently, and he smiled and sat up straight.

This little girl really wasn't the type to be grateful. Just like when their aunt gave them the order to send something to Yining, he spent ages searching in Hangzhou before finally getting her a box of oranges. But she got angry at him for eating some of her roasted melon seeds?

Roasting melon seeds wasn't the point at all. Yi Ning felt like she had no way of expressing her suffering, and there was no point in talking to a heretic like Lin Mao.

Fortunately, Gu Jingming was getting a little impatient with Luo Yilian, so he smiled and said to Lin Mao, "...The master invited us over at noon, and since it's almost time, why not go over first?"

Luo Shanyuan accompanied them both. When Luo Yilian saw that Gu Jingming was gone, she didn't want to get along with Yining and Luo Yixiu at all. She claimed that she was not fully recovered yet and left first.

The maids brought a plate of lotus cakes, and Yi Ning asked about it. Miss Yi Lian had gotten up extra early today to pay her respects to Lin Hairu, a very diligent person. Then, she ran into Gu Jingming and Lin Mao, who had also come to pay their respects to Lin Hairu. Everything was a beautiful accident.

Luo Yixiu felt uncomfortable when she thought of Yi Lian's graceful appearance. She said quietly, "She's a bastard, why would she go to such trouble... Could it be that Master Gu is interested in her?"

After hearing this, Yi Ning stared at Luo Yixiu and said, "Fourth sister, are you in love with... Cousin Ming?"

Luo Yixiu blushed slightly, but shook her head and said, "I wouldn't say I like him, but your cousin Ming is really handsome." She spoke with a cheerful and youthful air, "I'm going to get married anyway, so I'll pick someone who's good-looking! If I meet someone who's not good-looking and doesn't have any talent, I'll be uncomfortable with him. At least I feel comfortable with the good-looking ones."

Luo Yixiu's marriage declaration makes a lot of sense.

Yi Ning drank another cup of tea and admired her fourth sister's insightful opinions. If Chen were to hear them, her fourth sister would definitely give her a lecture.

Luo Yixiu stayed at her place for lunch. The chefs in Yining were very skilled and their squirrel fish was the most delicious. She ate the whole fish.

After dinner, the two men asked the maid to bring out the chessboard and played Go in the yard.

Luo Yixiu's chess skills hadn't improved in all these years, but Yining, after spending a long time with Mr. Song, the white-bearded Hanlin, discovered that he actually had some talent for the game. Mr. Song held his beard in his hands, marveling at the thought. Just when he was about to give up on Miss Seven, he finally found a way to teach her, otherwise, Lin Hairu would have tripled his salary for nothing.

Luo Yixiu was killed by her without leaving a single piece of armor. Some died and some were injured. There were not many living chess pieces left to move.

Yi Ning turned the white jade chess piece and said, "Fourth sister, just tell me how many pieces you want me to give you."

Luo Yixiu pinched her cheek and smiled unhappily: "Is my chess character so bad?"

Lin Mao just walked in from outside when he saw Luo Yixiu pinching Yining's face. He immediately felt very sorry. Everyone else could pinch it, but why couldn't he? The more he thought about it, the more he felt that this was the truth. Why couldn't he pinch it? Anyway, my aunt was with my eldest aunt to look at the makeup today, so who cared about him?

Seeing Lin Mao standing at the door with a smile on his face, Yi Ning put down the paper in his hand and asked, "Didn't cousin Mao go to see his great uncle?"

"I'm new here and not very familiar with the Luo Mansion. I want to walk around. I wonder if my cousin Yining can show me the way?" Lin Mao had already raised his hand to ask.
