That afternoon, Yining watched Lin Hairu direct the maids to bring the long-unused golden nanmu Luohan bed into her room. Perhaps she was so used to it, she tossed and turned in her luxurious new bed for a long time before falling asleep. The next morning, Luo Yixiu woke her up early. She clutched the quilt and refused to get up. Luo Yixiu said, annoyed, "Your two cousins are having a poetry gathering with your second brother, and you're not going? Your sixth sister arrived early."
Just open it, she doesn't like reciting poems or composing couplets.
Luo Yixiu rubbed her face: "Luo Yining, get up quickly!"
Why are you calling her by her full name?
Yining finally opened half of her eyes, and she saw that Luo Yixiu was wearing a royal blue jacket with ten kinds of brocade patterns, her hair was tied into a bun, and she had two pearl flowers in her hair, and a pair of jade drop earrings, which made her face look particularly white.
The girls had been single for two years, and now that they were at their prime, it was natural for them to start dressing up. It was just that Yi Ning was not used to seeing them like this all of a sudden. Chen was currently looking for a husband for Luo Yixiu, and she was eager to give her daughter a thorough grooming.
Luo Yixiu doesn't like to dress up on weekdays, but she looks quite bright in this outfit.
Yi Ning yawned and waved, and Xuezhi and the other maids came up and said with a smile, "Fifth Miss, please go to the west room and wait for a moment. My sister will be here soon."
Songzhi carried Luo Yixiu out of the warm room, and Xuezhi led several maids in. The little maid's large red square lacquer tray held a scarlet jacket with a folded branch pattern. Yining glanced at it, shook her head, and asked them to change into a pea green jacket with a cloud pattern. The color was refreshing and pleasant to the eye. After helping Yining change into her clothes, they handed her a twisted hot towel and hand balm. When Yining sat in front of the makeup mirror, Xuezhi whispered, "Sister, do you want a bun?"
Xuezhi thought that Yining was getting older, and if it were an ordinary family, they would have started talking about marriage by now. But Yining was still so childish.
Yining was also tired of seeing people with bun hairstyles.
I heard that Xuezhi was an expert at combing hair when she was serving her elder sister, and could do things like a heart-shaped bun or a phoenix-tail bun with ease. But then she was assigned to work with Yining, and for so many years, she's been stuck with buns day in and day out. Even a master like that must be getting lonely. Seeing Yining's bun makes me want to do it myself.
"Okay." Yining finally nodded in agreement, "Just a simple comb will do."
Xuezhi immediately smiled and asked the maid to bring her some rose juice. She had her own set of rules for combing her hair. She first moistened the comb with the rose juice, then gently rubbed her hair. After a few dazzling movements, a beautiful bun was done.
Yining's hair was incredibly soft and fine, and it looked even better in a bun. Her delicate, bright face was rosy and chubby, revealing both the allure of a young girl and the sweetness of a child. Songzhi was stunned for a moment, then sighed, "It would look even better with that scarlet folded-branch floral jacket. Your clothes are too plain."
Xuezhi smiled and shook her head, saying, "Sister, you see that the fourth young lady is dressed brightly, so you want to keep it simple."
"My fourth sister is getting married soon, and my aunt is looking for a suitable family. I will just be a supporting role." Yining smiled.
When Luo Yixiu saw her come out, she pulled her towards the main room.
They were indeed holding a poetry gathering in the pavilion, writing poems on red paper with the theme "Summer." The water rippled gently, and the gentle breeze between spring and summer caressed their faces. The young men were all good-looking, creating a truly beautiful scene.
Luo Yilian stood nearby, wearing an apricot-white jacket and a slender figure. Her hair was loosely tied up, pinned with a jade hairpin, and small white jade cloves adorned her ears. Her graceful figure was truly beautiful, instantly making Luo Yixiu look like a commonplace woman.
Luo Yixiu immediately realized the difference between herself and Luo Yilian, twisting Yining's hand and saying, "Your sister looks... so annoying."
Yining pulled her hand away with a grin, whispering, "I was just wondering, why is Sixth Sister here? What are you doing here again?"
"Your aunt asked me to come here." Luo Yixiu said nonchalantly, "I asked her to tidy me up for half an hour before I came out. She asked me to talk to your cousin from the Gu family. But what do I have to say to your cousin..."
Yi Ning was frightened by her words. Suddenly, an absurd guess came to her mind. Could it be that Chen Shi was attracted to Gu Jingming?
"Which one is your cousin from the Gu family?" Luo Yixiu asked her again.
Yi Ning pointed to the woman in the middle, wearing a moon-white robe and writing. Then she whispered, "Fourth sister, what exactly did the aunt say?"
Luo Yixiu didn't answer. She had already walked over with the maids and the servants, pulling Yining over.
Just as Yi Ning was thinking about how to introduce her, Lin Mao turned around and smiled as soon as he saw Yi Ning. The girl was always up early, and he had just wanted to invite her to join him for a poetry reading, but she was still lying in bed. He couldn't help but taunt her, "Cousin Yi Ning is here! You're up so early."
Yining said with a forced smile, "How are you, cousin Mao? I heard that you couldn't find the alchemy furnace last night, so you came to ask mother for it. You were still able to get up so early. I admire you." She had never provoked him and had only met him twice. Lin Mao always spoke to her in a joking manner, which she found baffling.
Gu Jingming smiled, and it was a truly beautiful smile, gentle and handsome. He tried to smooth things over by saying, "Cousin Yining, don't bother with him. He's just a big talker."
They seemed to know each other well. Gu Jingming was gentle and modest, while Lin Mao had a scoundrelly and carefree demeanor, which was strangely peaceful.
Yining was about to sit down when her hand was grabbed hard.
She almost screamed, and so did Luo Yixiu. Why were they exerting so much strength?
