Chapter 80

The third young lady of the He family was startled and stammered, "I...I know a few."

Yi Ning was feeling depressed, as no one was talking to her anymore. Zhao Mingzhu naturally wouldn't talk to her either.

Zhao Mingzhu wasn't actually a smooth person; she was a bit overly pampered. Think about it: she was the only cousin in the Duke of Ying's mansion, and she was always the center of attention. If she were scheming, she would have tried to please Yi Ning even if she didn't like her. But she didn't, because she couldn't imagine it and wasn't used to it; she was used to being flattered.

Yining is not averse to such people who can see through her at a glance.

She was playing with a string when she heard a male voice behind her: "Second sister, what are you doing here?"

Yi Ning turned around at the sound and saw a young man standing behind them. The breeze lifted the corner of his clothes, and his features were handsome. Shen Jiarou saw him, ran over and pulled his arm, and asked with a smile, "Brother, why are you here? Didn't Mother ask you to follow Third Uncle to the camp?"

This should be Shen Yu, the son of the Zhongqin Earl. Yining remembered hearing Wei Ling mention him yesterday.

"My mother asked me to come and pay my respects to the old lady." Shen Yu said with a smile. His eyes fell on Yining and he couldn't help but be stunned.

Yining wore a blue satin jacket woven with gold. Her wrists were as white as jade, making the jade bracelets look even more stunning. Her features were exquisitely beautiful, with a radiant brilliance emanating from her brows. She said little, her slender white fingers twirling the red string intermittently, making it impossible to look away. One twist, two twists...

"This is Mingzhu's sister who just came back." Shen Jiarou told him, and then whispered, "Brother, aren't you going to see the old lady?"

Shen Yu came back to his senses and hummed. He knew that the young lady of the Duke of England's mansion had been found, and he was not very interested. But he didn't know... this young lady was so beautiful.

"Then I should call you sister Yining." Shen Yu said to her with a smile.

Yi Ning raised her head slightly, stood up and said politely: "Hello, Brother Shen Yu."

Her voice was thin and a little crisp. Shen Yu felt as if she had been bitten by something, and it was itchy.

However, Yining felt that there was no point in staying any longer. She might as well go back and catch up on her sleep, so she said goodbye to them and left the pavilion.

"...I heard you like reading, so the Duke had the steward make you some soft cushions. They're all made of the finest material, so you can lean back and read." On the way back, Zhenzhu said she wanted to ask Yining to go to the study and take a look. "They were just finished and sent over yesterday."

Yining had nothing to do anyway, so she followed her to the study, but saw a small figure popping up outside the study.

"Who's outside?" Pearl asked loudly. Seeing no one came out, she immediately said, "If you don't come out, I'll call the guards."

The small figure finally emerged. It was Ting Ge'er. He stood at the tall doorway, hesitant, looking at Yining without saying a word.

Yi Ning didn't expect it to be him. She thought someone was spying on her. She called him over to her and said, "Brother Ting, why did you come here by yourself? Where are the people who serve you?"

Tingge pursed his lips and said, "I came here to get my book..."

Yi Ning thought for a moment and said, "I remember all the books in the study have been moved over there. What are you coming here to get?"

Ting Ge'er felt ashamed and annoyed at being exposed, and seemed not to want to talk to Yining anymore: "I want to go back!"

Yi Ning grabbed his collar, and Ting Ge'er couldn't run away. Yi Ning thought he was funny and said with a smile: "You can't just leave like this. I will take you back myself. Do you live in the yard next door?"

Yi Ning took Ting Ge'er back to his courtyard. On the way, she asked him, "Aren't you going to play with Sister Mingzhu?"

Ting Ge'er said, "I don't go to play with her every day! She lives in the west courtyard, and I don't want to go there." He suddenly fell silent and asked, "Can you coax others to sleep?"

Yining was stunned, and Tingge'er said, "No one coaxes me to sleep. When the room is too dark at night, I ask Tong's mother to light a few more lights."

Yi Ning was puzzled as to why Ting Ge'er suddenly brought up this: "Didn't father coax you to sleep?"

"I can only see him once or twice a month," Ting'er said. "My grandmother is sick again, so I haven't been able to keep him with her."

"Then your wet nurse and maid, don't they put you to sleep?"

Ting'er shook his head and said, "They're just outside watching over me... I don't want them to coax me, I'm not three or four years old." He seemed unhappy again, "Forget it, I don't want you to send me off. I want to go back!"

Yi Ning was about to say a few words to comfort him, but Ting Ge'er had already run away. He was right at his door, but Yi Ning did not chase him.

Yining felt a little puzzled. This child's personality was really a bit moody.
