Chapter 1 Transmigrated as a Newlywed

Xu Wanying was a modern working woman who worked 996 every day. Due to excessive overtime, she was in a daze on her way home and got into a car accident, which killed her.

She thought she was going to report to the King of Hell, but unexpectedly she was transported to ancient times and became a bride sitting in the bridal chamber, waiting for the groom to lift her veil.

All she could see was bright red, a festive color. Before she could even figure out what was going on, her veil was rudely ripped off, and the hairpins on her head were even tangled, with a strand of her hair pulled down.

"Are you Xu Wanying?" a harsh, childish voice rang out.

She looked up and met a round, doll-like face—which was, of course, a real doll.

The boy looked to be around ten years old, with a robust and chubby face. He was wearing a red round-necked robe, which made him look extremely festive.

But at this moment, there was no trace of childlike innocence on his face; on the contrary, it was filled with malice, and his eyes revealed his disgust for her.

Xu Wanying was startled, her mind racing.

Help! Could this be her husband? Is she a child bride? Will she have to remind the little fat boy to get up and pee in the middle of the night to prevent him from wetting the bed?

The thought of that scene filled her with despair and plunged her into hopelessness.

That wicked feudal society!

Seeing that she didn't speak, the chubby boy's expression became even more ferocious. He said in a vicious voice, "Why don't you dare to speak? You know you're a slut who used shameful means to marry my third uncle, so you don't dare to utter a sound?"

Upon hearing this, Xu Wanying breathed a sigh of relief.

"Thank goodness, thank goodness, I'm your third aunt." She patted her chest; the shock she had just experienced had almost caused her heart to stop.

She really didn't want to be a vengeful child. If she had to become a child bride for such a young child, she would rather not have transmigrated at all and had been hit by a car to die.

"No wonder you were raised by a concubine, you're a worthless wretch. How dare a lowly woman like you be my third aunt? You're delusional! My third uncle is a dragon among men, and you, a mere pheasant, dare to dream of being with him. My grandparents couldn't deal with you, so they had to hold their noses and let you in, but I won't let you have your way!"

Hearing her say that, the chubby boy became even more furious.

This woman is so shameless; if she isn't punished, she'll only become more brazen.

His eyes turned red with anger, and he grabbed a teacup from the table and threw it forcefully at him.

With a loud "clang," it hit her right on the forehead. Before she could even understand what was happening, a hole appeared in her head.

Xu Wanying fainted on the spot and remained bedridden for a month.

Because of the severity of her injuries, she still dreams about being hit.

In her dream, she still clearly remembered the teacup that was smashed against her. It was a Langyao red teacup with a pattern of mandarin ducks playing in the water, which was extremely festive.

Of course, after it hit her head, the teacup became even redder with blood.

Inside Qingxi Pavilion, Xu Wanying leaned against the headboard, her face as pale as paper, and it seemed she would soon pass away.

"How can you do your job in this freezing weather? Why didn't you stop the Third Madam from going out to pay her respects? She's already not well, and now she's going to fall ill again."

A gentle reproachful voice came from outside the house; it was Cen Shi, the wife of the Marquis of Zhongyi, the original owner's adoptive mother-in-law.

Xu Wanying narrowed her eyes slightly. Instead of coming in to check on her health, her mother-in-law was punishing her servants, clearly making an example of them.

Madam Cen immediately sent several maids to stand outside as punishment before walking in with dignified and elegant steps.

"Mother—" Xu Wanying's voice trembled as she opened her mouth.

She struggled to get up, but Cen pressed her down: "Rest now, don't get up. I've heard everything. You forced yourself to get up to pay your respects to me, but you fainted as soon as you stepped out of the courtyard. Although you meant well, I still have to scold you. If anything happens to you, and outsiders find out, they'll start talking about me. A mother-in-law mistreating her daughter-in-law is driving her to her death!"

Throughout, Cen spoke softly, as if trying to comfort her, but her words were full of reproach.

Xu Wanying lowered her eyes. Although she had been lying in bed recovering from her injuries for the past month, she had learned a lot about her mother-in-law's shrewdness. She seemed to be very considerate, but in reality, she was cunning and ruthless, making people uncomfortable but unable to find fault with her.

After entering the courtyard, she first punished her maid, then taught her a lesson. After a series of beatings and slaps, she was completely transformed from a dutiful daughter-in-law who was sick and paying her respects into a stupid daughter-in-law who put her mother-in-law in a disadvantageous position. What a clever tactic.

However, she's not one to be trifled with.

Before Cen could say anything more, her sickly daughter-in-law suddenly raised her head and spat out a mouthful of bright red blood.

Cen was unable to dodge in time and was immediately sprayed directly, leaving her clothes covered in blood, a gruesome sight, with a few drops even splashing onto her face.

Xu Wanying lowered her eyes, a hint of regret flashing in them.

The aim was terrible; it didn't hit Cen Shi's face properly, wasting the blood pack she had collected for almost half a month.

"Ah, Madam Hou, are you alright?"

The surrounding maids were in a flurry of activity, rushing forward to wipe it clean.

Cen was startled and gave Xu Wanying a special look, fearing that her third daughter-in-law, who had only been married for a month, might suddenly die on the spot.

Fortunately, Xu Wanying's eyes were still open, and she was clearly still breathing.

Just then, an electronic voice sounded: [Ding—The Poor Man's Happy System is online. It has detected that the host is extremely unhappy. This system has nothing, but it can ensure that the host is happy.]

Xu Wanying was immediately puzzled: "How can I be happy?"

This system is knowledgeable in everything from astronomy and geography to entertainment gossip, making it the perfect choice for anyone who loves a good laugh. Host, would you like to bind to it now?

Xu Wanying was overjoyed. The mere mention of eating melons made her wide awake.

What price will I have to pay?

Although she was tempted, she wasn't so irrational as to lose her senses and was wary of any free lunch.

Take this time travel for example. She thought it was giving her a second life, but it was just a way for her to suffer. It started in hell. Her bratty nephew and her scheming mother-in-law were enough to give her a hard time.

[The system relies on the host's happiness for energy; the happier the host, the bigger the gossip it provides. If the host remains consistently negative and listless, then this system is merely for show.]

[Tie me up, now! I want to be with you forever, until death do us part!]

[Ding—Binding successful. Wishing you happiness every day, long-lasting energy, and enjoyment of the gossip!]

The two were chatting happily when they heard a panicked wail coming from outside.

"Third sister-in-law, my poor third sister-in-law, you absolutely cannot be hurt! You are still a virgin, if you were to die like this, where would I find a girl to replace my third brother!"

The woman clearly had a loud voice; it could be heard clearly from almost two miles away.
