Jiang Chengli closed his eyes, his emotions churning within him.
Having endured countless torments, he believed he had long since given up hope, no matter what situation he faced. Yet, when faced with his mother's eyes full of heartache, he couldn't help himself.
It turns out he wasn't a stone man, nor was he dead; he could still feel sorrow and sadness.
Jiang Chengli slowly exhaled, listening to the occasional birdsong outside, and decided to relax for a moment.
“I tried my best to isolate Xing Xiaoya from the Hou family, but my father still found her hiding place and launched a night raid. Later, my mother also ran into her at a jewelry store. My second brother and sister-in-law were returning to the capital when they also encountered her on the road and even rescued her. Then, my second brother climbed over the roof to see her in the middle of the night. I didn’t want any of these things to happen, but I always ended up running into them.”
"I tried everything I could, but to no avail; it was all in vain."
His voice was low and visibly agitated, no longer concealing his emotions as before.
“Mother will indeed try to stop Xing Xiaoya from entering the Marquis’s mansion, but it will be useless. In the end, she will still enter the Marquis’s mansion. You have used all sorts of methods, but you have only ended up with a bad reputation. On the contrary, she is pure and innocent and has compromised." After he finished speaking, he stared straight at her, obviously wanting to observe her reaction.
This state of being powerless to change the situation is truly terrifying.
It's like prey caught in a spider's web; no matter how much it struggles, it can only become food for the spider, unable to change its predetermined fate.
Cen Ying didn't react with fear, but instead patted the back of his hand again.
"I haven't experienced any of what you're talking about, so I can't guarantee anything. But you might want to look at the positive aspects. For example, your father only came once, and your second brother hasn't come since his medical examination. They both promised you they wouldn't come to Wutong Street on their own initiative, and they've kept their promise. In the future you know, do you think they would go so long without coming to see Xing Xiaoya?"
Even when she asked questions, she spoke softly, as if she had returned to the past and was coaxing him to sleep when he was a child.
Jiang Chengli was stumped by the question, and his expression suddenly became serious.
He frowned and pondered for a moment, then couldn't help but ask, "When was the last time Second Brother came to Wutong Street?"
“A month and a half,” Cen Ying replied.
Jiang Chengli seemed not to believe it. He did some calculations himself and then confirmed that it really had taken that long. He was stunned.
"It's really been that long, it shouldn't be like this," he muttered to himself.
Seeing his shock, Cen Ying's mood improved, and she couldn't help but tease him, "Why shouldn't you? You live in a daze all day long, afraid to count the days, but time doesn't stand still."
"How could he resist? Second Brother is a womanizer, how could he live without women?" Jiang Chengli couldn't help but ask again, his words quite blunt.
Cen Ying couldn't help but click her tongue: "How can you talk like that? Your second brother may be charming but he's not lewd. He's not a reincarnated lecher. How can he be unable to live without women? Besides, he's seen too many beauties. Xing Xiaoya isn't the kind of beauty that could topple kingdoms. She's just come from the countryside and has a bit of a fresh look. She's still a bit far from being a beauty that could topple kingdoms."
She wasn't trying to discredit Xing Xiaoya; she was just telling the truth.
Girls raised in large, prestigious families possess an air of refinement that transcends mere physical appearance.
Before Xing Xiaoya transmigrated, her background was relatively ordinary. After transmigrating, she was still a child from a poor family. She had not experienced the influence of family education and therefore lacked that kind of spirit.
"That shouldn't be the case, Mother. Xing Xiaoya is very strange, as if she's cursed. Everyone who encounters her has to bow down to her. Everything is predestined." He couldn't help but chuckle as he said this, his voice filled with cold mockery.
Seeing his negative expression again, Cen Ying simply raised her hand and patted his shoulder.
"Why are you saying such discouraging things again? Your father and your second brother haven't come. At least this is completely different from the future you know."
Jiang Chengli couldn't help but ask, "Second brother hasn't mentioned Xing Xiaoya at all. Is he in a lot of pain, having to suppress his longing for her all the time?"
Cen Ying couldn't help but sigh softly: "He is indeed in a lot of pain."
Upon hearing this, a hint of mockery immediately appeared on his face. This was clearly within his expectations. He knew that the men of the Jiang family were cursed, forced to revolve around Xing Xiaoya for the rest of their lives, as if she had become the meaning of their existence. If they went against their original intentions, they would not live a peaceful life.
Cen Ying changed the subject: "However, his suffering has nothing to do with Xing Xiaoya, but rather with the divine artifact constantly exposing his past. Your second brother is busy treating his illness all day long, consulting various doctors, taking all sorts of tonics, and even going to fortune tellers to change his fate. But it's all in vain; he's destined to be a eunuch for the rest of his life."
“Every day when everyone eats together, that’s when your second brother suffers. Every few days, Shenqi tells you embarrassing stories about your second brother, and he also tries to cultivate his mind in front of various beautiful women, trying to arouse his body, but nothing works. He’s tried everything.”
"At first, the women would run away whenever they heard this topic, but later even your sister got used to it. Listen, it's not us who are embarrassed anyway; the twists and turns were more exciting than an opera or a storyteller's tale."
She spoke those last few words with a dramatic intonation, no longer the gentle and considerate woman she had been before, but full of teasing. A slight smile played on her lips.
She was clearly just watching the show.
Jiang Chengli was even more incredulous; he felt as if he were listening to a story.
How could that be?
Jiang Chengxiao knew he was impotent and could only perform on Xing Xiaoya. Surprisingly, he didn't pester Xing Xiaoya but instead thought of another way.
