Chapter 69 Gou Shengzi and the Mouse Instrument

"It's all because of this little brat! His writing is utter nonsense, and he even drove the teacher away!" Wei Xian was clearly furious, and he didn't care about his scholarly manners when he cursed.

Jiang Chengyi had been called a "little beast" recently, so she was very sensitive to those three words. She immediately said, "Uncle, please don't say that. Sheng-ge'er has grown up. It would hurt to hear that."

"Yi-ge'er is right, you're the most reliable one, you truly deserve to be my older brother." Wei Xian sighed softly.

Wei Sheng, who had been keeping his head down and not speaking, raised his head and said coldly, "I am the older brother."

Wei Sheng was born a little over half a day earlier than Jiang Chengyi.

Before Jiang Chengyi could speak, Wei Xian, who was standing to the side, was already jumping up and down in anger: "I deliberately misspoke, and you still have the nerve to say that! Do you have the behavior of an older brother? You are only a few hours apart from Yi-ge'er, so why is there such a big difference?"

"Look at Yi-ge, he can be called a dragon among men. And look at you, so lifeless all day long. You're all that big for nothing, just like a stupid ox, utterly foolish. You don't even dare to look people in the eye!"

Wei Xian cursed fiercely, and Wei Sheng didn't dare to say a word, keeping his head down and letting him vent.

"Get lost." He seemed to have gotten tired of cursing and simply waved the person away.

Wei Sheng had only taken a few steps when he saw Wei Xian warmly greeting Jiang Chengyi: "Come, Yi-ge'er, sit down. You brought the article over, didn't you? Let your uncle take a look."

Wei Xian personally poured tea and greeted the young man, treating him as an honored guest. His smile was radiant, like a chrysanthemum in full bloom.

His expression darkened, and as he was about to leave, Wei Xian called out again, "Don't go too far. Wait outside the door. I'll take Yi-ge'er for a good stroll later."

Wei Sheng ignored all advice and walked away without looking back.

"You little brat, stop right there! How dare you disobey your father!" Wei Xian was about to chase after him when Jiang Chengyi quickly stopped him.

"Uncle, Uncle, that's enough. You scolded him in front of me just now, so it's only natural that he felt embarrassed and upset. I'll go see him later."

Upon hearing this, Wei Xian immediately stopped and patted him on the shoulder.

“Yi-ge’er, you are the best. You are upright and knowledgeable. If I had a son like you, I would take you under my wing and teach you personally every day. I would never be able to bear to hit you. The Marquis is really too ruthless!” Wei Xian stared at Jiang Chengyi’s legs, his tone revealing a hint of dissatisfaction.

Jiang Chengyi's heart softened. Sigh, actually marrying his cousin wasn't so bad, after all, his aunt and uncle really doted on him.

Unfortunately, my uncle's official rank wasn't high. A fourth-rank official might be considered a high-ranking official by ordinary people, but in Wangjing, it was really nothing special. You could easily run into the carriages of first or second-rank officials just by walking a few steps outside.

Moreover, the Marquis of Zhongyi's family is of high enough status, and the Wei family is really not a good match for him. Jiang Chengyi sighed softly.

He submitted the essay, and Wei Xian praised it highly. Afterwards, he taught him how to write policy essays, including the problems he might encounter when taking the imperial examinations, the taboos of the examiners, and so on. He taught him everything he knew.

Wei Xian personally escorted him out, still loudly berating Wei Sheng: "Where is Wei Sheng? Yi-ge'er is in a wheelchair and it's inconvenient for him, and he doesn't even know how to take care of him. What kind of cousin is he?"

"No need, no need, Uncle, I'll have the servant take him. He's in a bad mood, I'll go and comfort him."

This remark earned him another round of enthusiastic praise from Wei Xian, who was so eager that he seemed to want to marry his daughter to him the very next day.

"Goushengzi, so you were hiding here. You're just like a dog, always wanting to stay near the dog hole."

Jiang Chengyi was pushed around and found Wei Sheng in the southwest courtyard of the Wei residence. He had transformed completely; the polite young master from before was gone, and he immediately began to insult people.

The Southwest Courtyard was uninhabited and rather desolate. Wei Sheng liked to hide here when he was in a bad mood.

Although the place was desolate and overgrown with weeds, no one else frequented it, making it a paradise for Wei Sheng.

Even though he hid here today, his annoying cousin still found him.

Wei Sheng glared at the Wei family servant who was leading the way, stood up without saying a word, turned around and left, completely ignoring Jiang Chengyi.

He was very tall and had long legs, but he crossed the threshold in just a few steps.

"Stop right there! Who gave you permission to leave?"

“This is my home. I can go wherever I want without your permission!” Wei Sheng turned around and said in a curt tone.

"Ha, Gou Shengzi, how dare you talk to me like that? If your uncle finds out, he'll break your legs!" Jiang Chengyi sneered, raising her voice to mock him.

Wei Sheng's gaze went straight to his legs, his face showing disdain: "What, your legs were broken by your father, so you're hoping my father will break mine too? You rat."

"What did you call me?" Jiang Chengyi's expression changed, and he asked urgently.

"You're like a rat in the gutter, smelly and short, and you do nothing all day long."

"Stop him! Don't think I can't heal you just because I have a broken leg!"

Jiang Chengyi's eyes flashed with resentment. He suddenly waved his hand, and the servants behind him hesitated for a moment. After all, this was the Wei family.

"What are you standing there for? Don't you think my words count? If anything happens, I'll take responsibility!" he said with a rather domineering air.

"Fourth Master, this is the Wei residence. Before we came, the Lady Hou specifically instructed us to behave properly as guests."

Unexpectedly, the servants behind him didn't buy it at all, and some even stood up to explicitly refuse.

Zhu Zi, the personal servant who used to serve Jiang Chengyi, has been punished and sold off. The newly promoted servant is named Li Shan, who was personally promoted by Madam Cen.
