"What do you mean?" Wei Sheng asked in shock.
“Young Master, your cousin has injured his leg, and the Master has been telling you to take good care of him. If the Master finds out that you not only haven’t taken care of your cousin, but have also bullied him, I’m afraid he will be angry.”
"Yes, young master, the young master is kind-hearted. You can apologize to him and the matter will be over. We servants will not stop you."
Several servants from the Wei family offered their advice one after another, clearly choosing to take sides.
Wei Sheng frowned, finding it utterly ridiculous.
"I am clearly the young master of the Wei family. You bunch of lackeys, open your eyes wide and see clearly who your master is!" he asked coldly.
The servants exchanged glances, clearly hesitant, as this matter was indeed difficult to handle.
Seeing this, Jiang Chengyi felt a surge of smugness.
The choices these lackeys made were already biased; they just needed a little more stimulation.
He ripped off his purse and threw the silver inside onto the ground, yelling, "Teach him a lesson! All the silver is yours!"
Several servants of the Wei family immediately fixed their eyes on the silver, their eyes gleaming.
“Young Master, our master’s surname is not necessarily Wei. Madam’s surname is not Wei, nor will the future Master Gu’s surname be Wei. They are all our masters. Although you are surnamed Wei, if there is a conflict with either of them, we cannot listen to you!”
One of the servants, greedy for money, stepped forward and spoke arrogantly.
As soon as he finished speaking, he rushed over and punched Wei Sheng in the face.
Once someone took the lead, the others naturally became bolder and followed closely behind. Some reached out and grabbed Wei Sheng to prevent him from moving, while others threw punches at him.
Wei Sheng was tall but very thin. He could dodge the two servants rushing at him, but when there were more people behind him, no matter how much strength he used, he couldn't budge them at all.
Upon seeing this, the two servants of the Jiang family exchanged a glance. Li Shan made a gesture, and the other servant immediately left quietly, running off to deliver the message.
Although Cen ordered them to keep an eye on Jiang Chengyi, Jiang Chengyi was still the master no matter what. As servants, it was one thing for them to disobey orders, but they couldn't possibly ruin the master's business.
“Goushengzi, you still don’t see the situation clearly. Your father and mother dote on me and hope that I will become the son-in-law of the Wei family as soon as possible. They always scold you as a good-for-nothing. They have seen that you are useless and good-for-nothing. If the Wei family is handed over to you, it will become a ruin sooner or later. So they want to attach themselves to the Marquis of Zhongyi’s mansion.”
"Actually, my cousin is really great. She's beautiful and smart, but unfortunately, you're the only one in the family who's holding her back. If I told my aunt and uncle that it was because you, her cousin, were ungrateful and made me not want to marry her, how would they treat you?"
Jiang Chengyi pushed his wheelchair closer, looking down at Wei Sheng with a face full of mockery and disdain, revealing the smugness of a petty person who had achieved his goal.
Wei Sheng, who had been pinned down and unable to move, was so angry that he was fuming. He mustered all his strength, angrily shook off the servants, rushed forward, and kicked them.
Jiang Chengyi was already short and was in a wheelchair, while Wei Sheng had long legs. When he kicked out, it landed squarely on Jiang Chengyi's chest.
Jiang Chengyi had nowhere to hide and could only endure the kick to the heart. He immediately felt a sharp pain in his ribs and suspected that his bones were about to be broken.
He almost tipped over in his wheelchair; if it weren't for the servant standing behind him who caught him in time, he would have been utterly humiliated.
"You little beast, are you trying to kick me to death? You guys, get your hands on him and beat him up! Whoever hits him the hardest gets the jade pendant!"
Jiang Chengyi was enraged. He ripped off the jade pendant from his waist and threw it directly in front of the servants.
Instantly, the servants of the Wei family became even more arrogant. Originally, they only controlled Wei Sheng and even if they threw punches, it was just for show. But now it was different. With such a generous reward, there would surely be brave men.
"Bang bang bang—" The dull thuds of fists hitting flesh rang out. Wei Sheng was able to fight back at first, but he couldn't defend himself at all later.
Jiang Chengyi was still not satisfied and said coldly, "Hurry up and beat him to death."
When the beating was almost over, Wei Sheng lay motionless on the ground, no longer glaring at people with his arrogant eyes as before.
Jiang Chengyi then pushed the wheelchair and came closer again.
"Hand me that stick!" he commanded the servant of the Wei family.
The yard was littered with pebbles and withered branches and leaves, and he quickly picked out a long wooden stick.
Once he got the stick in his hand, he weighed it in his hand for a couple of moments, then gestured back and forth on Wei Sheng's leg.
"Goushengzi, you were just mocking me for being a cripple. Actually, my leg is just injured, and it'll be fine after some rest. But I think it's good for you to be a cripple. The imperial examinations don't accept cripples, so let's see if you can still be so stubborn then!"
"Fourth Master!" Li Shan's expression changed, and he immediately stepped forward to stop him.
Li Shan had always heard that this Fourth Master was difficult to serve, but this was the first time she had ever experienced it firsthand.
Not only is he difficult to please, he is clearly a malicious person. He came to someone else's house as a guest, but he broke the host's leg. He even knew that a lame person could not take the imperial examination. He was trying to ruin Wei Sheng's future.
"Don't interfere, you two stop him. Li Shan, you useless dog of a servant who only holds me back, when we get back to the Marquis's mansion, I'll have my mother sell you off immediately!"
Jiang Chengyi's expression changed, and he immediately gave the order in a cold voice.
The servants of the Wei family exchanged glances, and two of them immediately stood up and blocked Li Shan's way, behaving more obediently than dogs.
