Chapter 6

Chapter 6

Hearing it was so surprised that his voice was vibrating and resonating, Lu Jiamu was no longer sleepy this time.

He stopped talking again, and remained quiet and motionless, even his breathing rhythm did not change, waiting to see what it would do to him.

The thing was pressed against Lu Jiamu's face, something wet, greasy but cold sweeping back and forth: "Don't pretend! I know you're awake!"

Because there was too much surprise in its voice, Lu Jiamu subconsciously wanted to smile along with it, but he held back from responding.

The thing scraped across Lu Jiamu's face several times, shouting eerily, "I know you're awake!" "You can't hide it from me!" "Don't you want to look at me?!" "Do you want to eat candy and cake?" etc. Lu Jiamu always ignored it.

After listening for so long, Lu Jiamu was already convinced that it was really a weakling.

After a while, perhaps because other children attracted its attention or because it thought he was too boring, Lu Jiamu finally felt the coldness that was pressing against his face retreat, and the "tick-tock" sound disappeared.

It left.

Lu Jiamu vaguely heard the sound of relief coming from both sides of him at the same time.

After that, the "chirping" whispering sound came intermittently from different directions, occasionally approaching Lu Jiamu, but never came to disturb him again.

There was no other sound in the dormitory except for the sound of dripping water and the occasional murmur, but because it was too quiet, it seemed anxious.

Just like in class, all the students sit in rows, nervously waiting for the teacher to randomly call on a student to answer a question.

While praying that I would not be called, I also prayed that the Q&A session would end quickly.

A few hours later, the night was almost over. After Lu Jiamu fell into another drowsy sleep, he heard the low sobbing of a child in the corner of the dormitory.

With the previous experience, Lu Jiamu didn’t dare to squint his eyes to look directly, for fear that something strange would come in again.

The voice sobbed for a while, then trembled and said, "I want to..."

"I want to eat...I want to eat cake..."

"I don't like it here... I'm scared..."

"I want to play with you..."

As the voice spoke, it gradually became hazy and more and more like a dream talk.

Amidst a series of murmurs, he got out of the cot with a slight creak.

"I want to eat...cake...I want to eat...cake!"

He was talking in a strange, unclear tone as if in his sleep, and he was stumbling along the way, slowly chasing after something, and he ran to the dormitory door, opened the bolt himself, and walked out.

The door creaked shut slowly, and this time the dormitory became completely quiet; even the sound of dripping water disappeared.

After several dozen seconds, Wang Biao, who was sharing a bed with Lu Jiamu, spoke in a low voice: "Let's go..."

He found that his voice was a little trembling, and he coughed lightly: "Gone?"

Yu Leng was also shaking: "...Yeah."

But none of them dared to open their eyes to look, for fear that as soon as they opened their eyes, they would see that horrible face and hear that thing shouting in a surprised voice: I see you are awake!

Lu Jiamu pinched his chin, feeling that with the intelligence of a repeater, it would not be able to think of such a way of going back and forth to deceive people.

Besides, the two people next to them were already talking, and nothing happened.

Lu Jiamu carefully sat up with his eyes closed again. Seeing that the recorder did not immediately come over excitedly, he was sure that it had really left.

Lu Jiamu opened his eyes, turned his head to look at his bedding, then leaned over the edge of the bed to look at the floor, only to see a puddle of water.

That should be the source of the ticking sound.

Although dirty water is disgusting, it is much better than blood or bugs.

Yu Leng also opened his eyes and looked at Lu Jiamu. His face was pale and his lips were still trembling slightly like a chicken. He was obviously very scared: "Cluck... Cluck..."

"Ghost..." It took him a while to organize the meaningless sounds into words, "I just woke up, and when I opened my eyes, I suddenly saw a female ghost stuck to your face... I was scared to death. I just woke up...

"This world... this world seems to really have ghosts... I'm not kidding..."

Wang Biao's face didn't look good either: "Stop talking."

Lu Jiamu studied Wang Biao's expression for two seconds and felt that he might have seen that thing as well.

“I know.” Lu Jiamu nodded. Looking at their expressions, he was afraid that their rationality would disappear immediately, so he perfunctorily comforted them: “Maybe that was the teacher.”

I don't believe that's the teacher...

Wang Biao responded in a deep voice: "Impossible, which teacher would stay up all night just to scare students?"

"Yes..." Yu Leng pursed his lips, "Thank you for leading it away just now. You... you are so strong."

Lu Jiamu retracted his gaze from the water marks: "It seems that as long as we don't look at it and don't respond to it directly, nothing will happen."

"That makes sense." Yu Leng forced himself to take a deep breath and exhale, calming down. "It should be some time before six o'clock now. Let's get some more sleep."

Lu Jiamu thought so too. After seeing that there was only some dirty water on the ground and the sheets, he crawled back into his bed and prepared to go to sleep to replenish his energy.

During the last hour or two, I didn't know whether the children in the dormitory were all asleep or waiting for dawn without even breathing. It was very quiet and no one had the courage to close the door.

At six o'clock, Teacher Gao ran to the dormitory a few minutes before the wake-up call and banged on the door.

Finding the door was not bolted, I pushed it open.

"Get up, get up!" He took out a loudspeaker from somewhere and shouted hoarsely, "Students, get up! Make sure your bedding is folded neatly. I want to check it!"

His devilish voice, which was already hoarse and unpleasant and made people want to hit him, as if it contained a mouthful of phlegm, was amplified, and a burst of devilish sound filled their ears.

No matter if they were just feeling sleepy because they were frightened and hadn't slept for half the night, or they were still groggy so early in the morning, they were all tortured by this evil sound and lost all their sleepiness.

Lu Jiamu got out of bed and started to fold the quilt.

After the tape recorder left at night, fortunately nothing strange came in and it was quiet for a long time, giving him a chance to catch up on his sleep.

Teacher Gao walked in, stared, and quickly walked around the dormitory. When he counted the number of people, he found that there was one person missing in the room.

He immediately stretched out his skinny, dark-skinned hand, pointed at the empty bed, and asked hoarsely, "Where's the person on this bed?"

The children nearby didn't dare to say a word.

Teacher Gao stared at them: "Huh? I'm asking a question."

After a long while, a child finally answered in a clear voice: "Teacher, an aunt with long wet hair came over at night and asked him to leave."

After hearing this, Teacher Gao's face, which already looked like a dead person, became even more distorted. The black blood vessels under his skin were throbbing, as if he was extremely emotional.

He shouted in a hoarse voice, "If someone calls you at night, can you go out with them? You've wasted your kindergarten!"

"That's terrible." He looked around grimly and used the loudspeaker again, "Hurry up and line up. Let's go have breakfast."

Teacher Gao led them to the cafeteria again and asked them to line up according to their numbers to get their meals.

He went to find Teacher Wen, who was almost done with his meal, and discussed something with him.

Because we were too far away, we couldn't hear it. But Mr. Wen's swollen face showed a little impatience, and then his clothes moved because of the stretch, and it was foreseeable that the tumors on his body moved a few times.

A shadow was separated from under his feet and quickly disappeared. If you didn't look carefully, you wouldn't notice it at all.

Teacher Gao nodded and walked to the teacher's meal window to get his own meal.

Lu Jiamu withdrew his gaze, picked up his own plate and prepared to eat.

The food in this school is very simple. Breakfast is just a small piece of pancake, a small bowl of porridge and a few pickles, and the supply is limited.

The school didn't prepare dinner yesterday, and this was the only thing we got for the first meal this morning. It was obviously not enough to fill us up.

As soon as Lu Jiamu sat down, he immediately started eating quietly, politely but quickly.

Although Yu Leng was also very hungry, he had been picky about food for so many years. In the past, he was the only one who picked the food, and no food picked his share.

Now when I see that this is the breakfast, I really want to complain: This is it?

However, even the dining seats were arranged according to student numbers, and there were children he didn't know sitting around him. He was afraid that others would hear his complaints, so he had to hold them back.

Although he hadn't said it out loud yet, Lu Jiamu, the master of micro-expressions, had already noticed the disgust on his face and stared at his plate: "If you don't want to eat it, you can give it to me."

Yu Leng immediately shook his head: "No."

He quickly lowered his head and started eating.

The students in the front row had just finished their limited meals, and the students at the end had just gotten their meals and found their correct seats when Teacher Wen packed up his tableware and walked up to them.

Each of the tumors on his face seemed to be filled with an unpleasant expression. "Before the math morning reading, I will take you somewhere. Students who haven't finished their meals should hurry up."

After Teacher Wen finished speaking, he waited for a while and then signaled them to line up and set off.

He led them out of the teaching building and did not go to the open space they had been to yesterday. Instead, he changed direction and took the small path.

The further we walked, the more desolate and dilapidated the buildings became, gradually turning into a dangerous building that had fallen into disrepair and was on the verge of collapse.

At the beginning, I could occasionally run into faculty and staff doing other things, but as I walked along, I couldn’t even see anyone anymore.

Yu Leng became alert, worried that this teacher was going to harm them.

Teacher Wen led the way in front, without looking back or saying a word.

But there was a tumor on the back of his neck that looked like a human face, which was faintly visible from his high collar, as if staring at all the students.

Teacher Wen led them to a small pond, and then he said without turning his head, "I heard from Teacher Gao that someone in your dormitory was called out last night."

After he finished speaking, the small pond, which had been like stagnant water, began to ripple, and a colorful object over one meter long floated to the surface of the water as lightly as a piece of paper.

Yu Leng took a closer look and was shocked: That's a person!

But the man was lying in the water with his back up and his face down, without any sound. It was obvious that he was not breathing and was dead.

Teacher Wen turned around and glared at them fiercely. Every visible tumor on his face seemed to be glaring at them as well. "Some people were eliminated on the first day. You are truly the worst class of students I have ever taught!"

Maybe because of the many tumors on his face, he looked a hundred times more ferocious than Teacher Gao's expression of disappointment in his students that morning.

"In the entire grade, your class is the only one that's so bad!"

Although this statement has the same meaning as "Your class is the noisiest along the way I've been here", Yu Leng couldn't laugh anymore.

The corpse moved and was carried on the shoulders of a black shadow that emerged from the water and slowly walked ashore.

After it threw the corpse face up on the ground, it melted quickly like summer ice cream, sank into the ground, and then merged into the shadow under Teacher Wen's feet.

The little corpse had a hideous face, a purple hue from lack of oxygen, and there was still some silt from the bottom of the pond on its hair.

Its black pupils had disappeared, and its wide-open eyes were pale white.

I don’t know how I got there, but after just the middle of the night, my whole body became swollen, especially my abdomen, which was arched high.

Lu Jiamu pinched his chin and remembered what the tape recorder said: There is a midnight snack at school, with lots of cream cakes, do you want to come with me?

Although all the students knew that the kid had gone out with something unknown last night and was definitely in danger, it was still a bit shocking to see it in reality.

It was the first time that Yu Leng faced death head-on. Even though he was not familiar with the other party, he felt an extremely unreal feeling.

But what was strange was that although the expressions on the other children’s faces were not very good, none of them showed any fear or wanted to vomit. They just watched quietly.

Teacher Wen glared at them and said, "Come here, analyze how he died."
