Chapter 41 The Bloody Wedding 12

Chapter 41 The Bloody Wedding 12

A chilling wind blew through the graveyard, and a row of infant corpses lay before the monkey.

Some of them had their eyes open, staring straight at him. Even the monkey felt a chill run down its spine and barely managed to stay upright as he put the corpses back into the jar.

Lu Cen crossed her arms: "So?"

The monkey stood beside him, its body temperature gradually returning to normal: "The people who died in this town were all married women and newborn girls. What comes to mind?"

In an instant, an idea popped into Lu Cen's mind, and his expression changed: "When I was very young, I heard many stories. In remote areas, education was not widespread, and the preference for sons over daughters was serious. Whenever a girl was born, she would be disliked by her family, who would consider her a money-losing burden or a debt collector. Some mean-spirited families would secretly get rid of the newborn."

The monkey's face was grave: "I've heard that this kind of thing happens repeatedly, even when it's prohibited."

“People have a herd mentality. When one person does something, of course he is wrong. But if the whole village does something, can you say that the whole village is wrong?” Lu Cen said with an annoyed expression and a bad tone: “Gradually, no one will object. It will become more and more crazy, like a plague, and it will even infect the neighboring village.”

The monkey couldn't help but shudder, feeling that the graveyard was becoming increasingly eerie. If they had entered a supernatural instance, the resentment here would be overwhelming by now.

"The cause of the child's death has been found, but what about the married women? Why did they kill them?"

The monkey couldn't stay any longer and pulled Lu Cen down the mountain: "I think it's mostly related to the children. Maybe they gave birth to three or four girls in a row, and the men were not satisfied, so they wanted to change wives. They didn't think it was their problem and only wanted a son, so they killed someone and remarried."

This argument holds water; since they arrived, two marriages have already taken place in the town.

"They don't let female infants live, and when they grow up they need to get married. Where do these wives come from?"

The two exchanged a glance, both thinking of the task of finding the person. Lu Cen guessed, "It can only be an outsider, or a passerby."

The monkey said, "If the outsider is alone, it's fine, but if he has companions, he can't succeed every time."

“The whole town was involved in the crime as a group. How many people could there be?” Lu Cen said in a heavy tone, “I’m afraid the people who accompanied them were also killed by them.”

The monkey was terrified. He broke out in a cold sweat and couldn't help but look back. He saw that the deep mountain valley, nestled in the darkness, looked like a gaping maw.

Where is the body?

"Oh no!" Lu Cen exclaimed in alarm, quickening his pace as he descended the mountain.

"What's wrong?" The monkey got anxious too, startled by his antics.

Lu Cen was slightly out of breath from walking too fast: "You tell me, if all foreign women fall into the hands of these people, how could Chen Ning escape?"

The monkey's expression changed drastically.

The two ran wildly, but halfway there Lu Cen couldn't go on. If it weren't for the worry that something might happen to him, Monkey would have wanted to leave him behind and go back first.

As dawn broke, the two entered the town and headed straight for Su Li's residence. Lu Cen had been there twice before, and the gatekeeper remembered him and didn't stop him.

Passing through the flowing water corridor, a cobblestone path leads to the end of the garden. Chen Ning, whom they were worried about, is having tea with Su Lu. Chen Ning is very attentive to Su Lu, showing concern and care in every way. The window in the study is open, and lush green branches naturally extend from it. Su Lian and Su Li are sitting on the couch.

I don't know what they're talking about.

Both of them breathed a sigh of relief, feeling exhausted.

Chen Ning saw them and asked in surprise, "What have you two been doing? You look like two exhausted dogs."

Lu Cen: "..."

monkey:"......"

They were worried for nothing!

With her fighting skills being so high, why would they need to worry about her?!

The monkey retorted sarcastically, "Yeah, at least we're still dogs. You're different. You have to add a word before 'dog': licker. You're the epitome of a licker!"

Chen Ning: "..."

She gritted her teeth: "Say that again!"

Lu Cen quickly tugged at the monkey, saying, "You've been exhausted all night, calm down."

Neither of them heard his true feelings, and they started arguing over a single word.

"Lu Cen! Has he taken the wrong medicine?"

Suddenly, a face appeared in front of Lu Cen. He was so nervous and excited that he couldn't speak, his lips trembling. After a long time, he finally managed to utter, "Your name is Lu Cen?"

The situation seemed to be out of control.

The familiar scene made Lu Cen panic. He had a vague premonition and forced a smile: "Yes...yes, you're only finding out now?"

Su Lian's eyes shone brightly as she carefully examined Lu Cen. When her gaze fell on his chest, she gently touched it with her finger and asked hopefully, "Do you have a scar here?"

Yesterday I was asked about my defensive midfield, today I'm being asked about my chest.

Lu Cen was either stunned or burned by his gaze, so she had to look away slightly. When she heard his words, her heart jumped. What was he going to say?

Previously, when Su Lian's lover died, Lu Cen felt sorry for her and thought it was a woman. But now, with Su Lian's expression and Su Lie's past, he now sees her as the deceased lover.

But he heard from the maid that Su Lian's lover fell off a cliff, so what's the situation now? Can anyone tell him?

His hesitant expression stung Su Lian. He tightened his fingers, as if all his strength was concentrated in that one sentence: "Don't lie to me."

Lu Cen's heart skipped a beat. Su Lian was originally a refined and easy-going person, but his sickly appearance made him look even weaker. At this moment, his eyes were bloodshot, as if he was about to shed tears.

He softened his heart and nodded.

In that instant, Lu Cen was shocked by the emotions in Su Lian's eyes, which were even more intense than those of Su Lie. He felt a little regretful; he was truly afraid of not knowing how the plot would unfold.

Moreover, Su Lie is lying in an unknown place. What would he do if he woke up and found that his older brother's dead lover had come back to life and was his former lover?

If Su Lian knew that he and his brother had a past, what would he do?
