Chapter Seventy-Eight: Killing the Demon 18

Chapter Seventy-Eight: Killing the Demon 18

The captain of the guards wasn't stupid. With the mission almost halfway through and no other players in sight, he guessed that this was a PvP instance. Otherwise, why would he have rescued Lu Cen? Without Lu Cen, he couldn't command Ados and Luther. Lu Cen was still alive, so at least their missions were aligned.

The captain of the guard asked, "What do you think their mission will be?"

"They're inciting the guards to kill us, simply to prevent us from getting the Ice Blade or killing the demon."

The captain of the guard scoffed, "What if it's wiping out all of humanity?"

Chen Ning stared at him with her mouth agape, incredulous, but upon closer inspection, she felt a chill run down her spine.

If this is the reason, then the demon's attack on Galer can also be explained.

She checked her lifespan and fell into a daze, lost in thought.

In the late afternoon, the captain of the guard and Lu Cen developed fevers. The former was still able to stay conscious, while the latter fell into a deep coma. Luther tore off a piece of his clothes, soaked it in the snow, and used it to wipe Lu Cen's burning body, but it was of little use. The fever intensified, and his small face turned bright red.

Perhaps due to discomfort, Lu Cen uttered a few muttered words.

Ados was equally anxious; if the fire continued like this, people would either die or become mentally impaired.

He haphazardly poured some medicine from the bottle and stuffed it into Lu Cen's mouth. To make matters worse, footsteps could be heard outside.

Everyone looked serious and assumed defensive postures.

Luther gently covered Lucen's mouth, afraid that he might suddenly cry out.

The footsteps outside grew closer and closer. The captain of the guard had already drawn his sword, and the battle was about to begin. Those people lingered nearby for about ten minutes without noticing that the tree hole had left. The people inside relaxed their backs. If a fight really broke out, they would have no chance of winning; they were too few in number.

Before they could even catch their breath, the people who had left returned. A guard poked his head out of the bushes, grinned, and said, "Found it."

Luther's reaction and speed were top-notch. He picked up the bow next to him and shot an arrow through the man's neck. The man clutched his neck in fear, his eyes wide open, and slowly fell to the ground.

The group rushed out of the tree hole and ran into the depths of the forest, but unfortunately they were injured and exhausted, and were quickly caught up by the guards.

The two sides clashed. The other side had a numerical advantage, and within a minute, they began to show signs of weakness.

Seeing that they were no match for him, the captain of the guards disregarded everything else and, with a ruthless glint in his eyes, used his agility to quickly escape through the dense vegetation.

Upon seeing this, Chen Ning burst into curses, "That bastard actually ran away! Is he even a man?!"

"Miss Lisa, you should leave quickly too!" The guard said anxiously as he shielded her from a sword.

"What will you do if I leave?" Chen Ning said, "Stop talking nonsense and focus on fighting the enemy!"

Chen Ning is quite skilled, but unfortunately she has expended too much energy in the past few days and has been affected by the harsh environment, so she cannot unleash her usual strength.

Amidst a hail of arrows, a guard dove to shield her from one, dying instantly in the process.

Chen Ning's eyes instantly turned red. The next second, a long sword gleaming with silver light pierced through the crowd and viciously plunged into her stomach. Her body froze, her back reflexively curling forward and arching, blood spilling from the corner of her mouth. Before she could react, the sword was withdrawn from her body, blood gushing out. Chen Ning swayed a few times on the spot and collapsed onto the guards, no longer breathing.

"Miss Lisa!" Ados shouted from afar, like a trapped beast.

In just a few minutes, only Ados and his two companions remained.

Luther was still carrying Lucen on his back, and his face looked worse than ever before.

Are they really going to die here today?

He was unwilling to accept it.

He hasn't married Inlai yet; they're going to spend their lives together.

He and Ados kept retreating, killing anyone who came near them, but no matter how brave they were, they couldn't overcome the enemy's superior numbers.

The people on the other side sneered repeatedly, believing that victory was assured.

They even had the idea of teasing them, and instead of rushing to attack, they looked up with a smile at their eagerness to escape.

Just then, countless strange-looking creatures surrounded the forest from all directions. They moved extremely fast and arrived in front of us in an instant.

Someone exclaimed, "What is that?!"

"A demon! It's a demon!"

"Run!"

The tentacles were long and fast, sharp enough to cut through iron like mud. In a few seconds, they pierced through the bodies of countless people, lifting them into the air and then throwing them to the ground like trash. Even Ados and Luther were not spared, each pierced through by two tentacles.

Ados was killed in one blow. In his dying moments, a series of thoughts flashed through his mind: he had failed his father's expectations; he had been too arrogant, thinking he could save humanity, but in the end he was no different from those people, dying on the way; he had overestimated his abilities; he had been stupid, and he had even brought Inlai along.

Inlai, Inlai...

Ados lay face down on the ground in agony, his eyes following Inlai's figure.

He saw Luther fall heavily to the ground, spitting out several mouthfuls of blood and coughing violently. Lucen rolled off him, rolling around on the ground a few times, his body covered in snow and leaves, looking disheveled and no longer as refined as before. Two tentacles appeared from nowhere, wrapped around Lucen's body, and disappeared in the blink of an eye.

Ados was furious and tried to sit up, but he fell back down because he had little strength left, and his vision slowly blurred.

My body is getting colder and colder.

So this is what death feels like.

He was filled with remorse. Why did he take him into the forest?

Why? Why?

Suddenly, Ados recalled the scene of his first meeting with Inlai.

Inlai...

Perhaps because he was afraid of hurting Lu Cen, Luther's wound was in his lower abdomen. He crawled along the snow where Lu Cen had disappeared for a while, his eyes unfocused. He saw Lu Cen being taken away by the demon, and he was filled with fear and helplessness. He didn't know what Lu Cen would encounter. He was really too useless. Why was there such a useless person as him in the world?

He doesn't understand.

He was powerless when his parents died, and he was powerless when the count despised him. Now his partner has been taken away, and his fate is unknown. He is in so much pain that his heart feels like it's being torn apart, and his whole body is trembling.

Luther couldn't help but cough, "cough cough cough..."

A bloody trail was dragged across the snow, a horrifying sight. He covered his mouth, blood gushing from his throat and staining his sleeves.

He grew weaker and weaker, and the color in his eyes was about to disappear completely.

Luther was unwilling to accept this, "Inle..."

When Lu Cen regained consciousness, she felt like her whole body was about to stiffen.

He lay in the soft quilt, the bed surrounded by snow-white curtains. He reached out and parted them, discovering that it was a room with a very Western style. Exquisite swords were placed in one corner, and other utensils were placed in different locations. There was a fireplace against the wall, with charcoal burning inside, making the whole room warm and cozy.

Lu Cen shifted his body, but a sharp pain shot through his chest. His face paled, and he lay back down. He remembered that he had been eating mutton when he was shot in the chest by an arrow and passed out. So where was he now?

How are Chen Ning and the others?

He struggled to his feet and staggered toward the door. He pulled the wooden door open, and the wind and snow blew in his face, soaking him completely.

The howling wind echoed through the valley, and the wind swirled the snow in the air, creating wave after wave of white mist.

In a hazy state, Lu Cen saw a hint of green in the distance, surrounded by endless white expanse. The vastness of the world evoked a sense of desolation.

A dozen steps away was a bottomless cliff. He was at the highest point of the snow mountain. Looking down at the endless mountain range below, Lu Cen's breathing became rapid. This place was very similar to the place where demons lived, as described in the Al book. He looked back and saw towering buildings layered upon layer, covering the entire peak of the snow mountain.

This is the lair of demons.

Lu Cen's face turned pale. How did he end up here?

As he stood there in a daze, a man dressed in a moon-colored robe walked over. His face was as white as snow, and he was as cold as if he had been born from a snow-capped mountain.

He's so cold, even looking at him would freeze you.

"What are you doing out here?"

Lu Cen snapped out of her daze and involuntarily took a few steps back. "You, who are you?"

"Josiah, that is my name."

"Are you human?" Lu Cen asked warily, gripping the door frame.

Josiah, however, wore an expression that Lu Cen couldn't understand, and retorted, "So what if I'm human or not?"

Seeing him approach, Lu Cen had nowhere to retreat, and said in a sharp but weak voice, "Stop, stop."

Josiah ignored him, picked him up and placed him on the bed inside the room. Looking at Lu Cen's terrified expression, he paused and said, "I saved you."

Lu Cen's eyes lit up. "Where are my companions?"

"Dead."

Lu Cen felt a chill in his heart. Before he could feel sad, he heard Josiah say, "I killed him."

Lu Cen looked up abruptly, staring at him in panic, her body trembling without her even realizing it. "You, you killed them??"

"Humans kill demons, demons kill humans." Josiah bent down and touched his face, his tone indifferent. "Isn't this just a normal thing?"

Lu Cen dodged his hand, but dared not ask him why he didn't kill him, fearing that his unpredictable mood might lead him to kill him with a single sword stroke.

But when he thought of Chen Ning and the others being dead, he couldn't stop the tears from flowing. He was so heartbroken that he couldn't control himself, his eyes were blurry with tears, and his body was trembling.

Josiah wiped away his tears, but it was no use; Lucen's tears wouldn't stop.

"have a good rest."

Josiah's words carried a certain magic. Lu Cen felt his mind growing heavier and heavier, and then he smelled a strange fragrance. Unconsciously, he leaned against the bed and fell asleep. Josiah pulled the blanket over him and quietly watched his face covered with water before leaving the room.

When Lu Cen woke up again, a young man was changing the medicine on his chest. His hazy eyes met the young man's, and he became clear-headed. The young man said, "Don't move. If you move again and mess up the medicine, I won't be responsible."

The boy looked to be under eighteen, extremely young.

But what bothered him was that he didn't know what kind of medicine it was, and he felt his wound start to burn, so painful that his face turned pale.

He forced himself to remain silent.
