Chapter Sixty-Seven: Killing the Demon 7

Chapter Sixty-Seven: Killing the Demon 7

At this point, Lu Cen finally understood the purpose of the guard captain's visit.

So they wanted him to be the target.

He pursed his lips, clearly unhappy, and looked at the rugged-looking man with accusatory eyes.

He coldly remarked, "If the captain of the guard wants to know, he should find an opportunity to verify it himself. Why bother to trick me into doing something so dangerous?"

Captain of the Guard: "......"

Lu Cen left angrily. Did this person think he was a fool? Even if he wasn't a player, he wouldn't believe him anyway.

Suddenly, a possibility popped into his mind: the captain of the guards had come to find him because he had discovered his player identity and was deliberately coming to verify it.

Once it's confirmed that he's a player, he'll also want to know if Ados is a demon, and the captain of the guard can then reap the benefits.

Lu Cen became even more unhappy upon thinking about this.

I think these players are scheming and dishonest.

When Ximi returned after seeing off the captain of the guard, Lu Cen was taking off his clothes, and she took over his actions as soon as she came back.

As she approached, Lu Cen smelled that strong fragrance from yesterday again. He mumbled sleepily, "Ximi, why do you smell so good?"

Himi said with a smile, "This was specially given by the madam. Only a few people who have performed exceptionally well receive it. Young master, smell it, doesn't it smell especially good?"

Lu Cen nodded, feeling dizzy, and leaned against her.

The candlelight flickered, and the room was dim. Ximi led him to the bed and ran her fingers across his face: "Young master, go to sleep if you're tired."

Over the next few days, Lu Cen went to the mayor's library every day to look for records about demons. The contents of the other books were similar to those in Alvin's autobiography, with most of the same content. The origin of the Ice Blade was recorded very vaguely. It was only known that it was taken from the snow mountain where demons were born, but how it was taken and where it was located were not specified in the book. Lu Cen was troubled by this.

The ice blade is far away in the snow-capped mountains. How did he obtain it from such a distance?

There are seven players, and someone will definitely try to claim it, but whether they will succeed is unknown.

Lu Cen didn't like to leave his fate in the hands of others. After careful consideration, he decided to go to the snow mountain himself. However, he knew that the journey was long and fraught with danger, and he knew he couldn't reach the snow mountain alone. He needed to find some experienced experts to accompany him.

The most suitable people are the guards.

They had been through the forest, were highly skilled in combat, and were well-trained.

As Lu Cen left the library, deep in thought, he overheard Ados and the mayor talking as he passed a reception room.

"Father, the city of Galilee cannot hold out for much longer."

The elderly man looked haggard, with two more deep wrinkles appearing on his face recently. After a long silence, he asked, "Are there really demons in the world?"

"How could the records in the books be wrong?" Ados said anxiously, "Not to mention the books, before I came out, the city of Galilee was already on the verge of being captured by demons!!"

"According to you, even a city as large as Galor is helpless against demons, let alone our small town?"

"The book records that there are ice blades on the top of the snow-capped mountains that can kill demons."

"That's just a record whose authenticity is unknown! Besides, the summit of the snow-capped mountain is fraught with danger; who would be willing to traverse mountains and valleys to find a so-called ice blade whose existence is uncertain?!"

"I'm willing to go."

"Are you crazy? To get to the top of the snow mountain, you have to cross the entire Roshi Forest, which is teeming with ferocious beasts. Are you out of your mind?!"

“Rather than be killed by a demon, it’s better to die on the road to finding hope!” Ados said resolutely, his voice hoarse. “There have been several murders in town in the last few days, and Father has been searching for so long without finding the killer. Isn’t this the work of a demon?!”

Ados came out angrily and bumped into Lu Cen, who was leaning against the wall. His expression changed: "Sweetheart, what are you doing here?"

Lu Cen was disturbed by what he said about demons. He grabbed Ados's arm and said urgently, "You said there are demons attacking Galer?"

Ados patted his back to comfort him, and seeing that he was agitated and frightened, he carried him to his bedroom, saying, "It's okay, relax."

Lu Cen asked with difficulty, "Are there many demons...?"

“There are many, countless.” Ados hugged him. “Don’t be afraid, I will protect you.”

Lu Cen had a splitting headache. The mission clearly stated that there was only one demon, so why were there so many demons? Where did things go wrong?

"Could you tell me about the demons of Galilee City?"

"Half a month ago, hordes of demons attacked the city. According to the records, these creatures are called demons, and only ice blades can kill them completely. The city lord sent many guards to the snow mountain, but no one returned before I left. They are probably in grave danger. I was afraid that the town of Sk would also be attacked, so I rushed back without stopping. Fortunately, things were not so serious that they were beyond repair."

"As for the demon in town," Ados said in a low voice, "it was captured alive last night with the help of the guards."

Lu Cen was surprised. The demon was impervious to swords and spears. How did they capture it?

As if knowing what he was thinking, Ados said, "Demons may have tough skin, but they also feel pain and are afraid of fire."

"You're going to the snow mountain?"

"We have to go; this is our last hope."

Lu Cen remained silent. In the evening, he went to the temple with the mayor and saw the demon chained and imprisoned in the stone wall. He was so shocked that he took two steps back. After they came out, the mayor did not speak, as if he agreed with Ados's decision to go to the snow mountain.

Just two days ago, the captain of the guards was still doubting that Ados was a demon, but now that demons have become rampant, he has begun to doubt the authenticity of the mission.

He had never encountered such a perplexing mission before, and even felt that it was an impossible task!

The captain of the guards looked extremely grim; he absolutely could not die here!

The next day, Ados set off for the snow mountain with five of the mayor's personal guards and ten guards. Before dawn, a hazy pale blue sky hung in the sky. The city gates were wide open, and the sound of horses' hooves echoed through the streets. Light sleepers could hear some of the noise, while heavy sleepers could hear nothing at all.

Dust billowed as the group set off. The sky brightened from gray to light, the pale blue gradually deepening. A long, endless orange-red light appeared on the horizon, slowly deepening and expanding in scope. When the color reached a certain depth, the rising sun peeked out, radiating a strong golden halo. People and horses were enveloped in a warm glow. Around noon, the group arrived at the edge of the Roshi Forest.

No one spoke; everyone was busy eating.

The captain of the guard, munching on a dry loaf of bread, asked, "Which way should we go?"

"The Al-Wen book says that they saw the snow-capped peaks were golden in the village, so we must be on the right track heading east."

After resting, the group entered the Roshi Forest. They could still feel the warmth while eating, but once inside the dense forest, the heat dissipated within minutes, and they even felt cold. People often came to hunt in the outer areas, and the roads were intricate and complex. When the sun went down, Ados chose a sheltered slope as a temporary place to spend the night. Soon, some gathered firewood, while others cooked.

They brought three wagons, full of food and clothing. Ados had already entered the forest, and the wagons could still reach about a quarter of the way. Deeper into the forest, they would probably have to abandon the horses and walk step by step by manpower. Ados opened the wagon to get the food, but found a figure curled up in a basket of clothes. He was dozing off, his chestnut hair stained with some dirt.

Why are you here?!

A loud shout drew everyone's attention, and there stood Ados, who lifted a handsome chestnut-haired boy from the carriage.

The red marks on his face were bright, and he looked dazed, as if he hadn't woken up from his sleep yet.

Lu Cen had been in the carriage for too long and his whole body ached. He shook his hands and feet and let out a long sigh.

"Nonsense!"

Lu Cen felt guilty, but her spirit remained undiminished: "Why are you being so fierce!"

Ados took a deep breath and saw that the man's eyes were red and he was about to cry. He turned around and vented his anger on the guards: "What kind of work are you doing? You didn't even know there was an extra person in the carriage!"

Lu Cen added fuel to the fire: "You can't blame them, I sneaked in and hid there."

Ados's fingers trembled slightly, and it took him a while to calm down before he pointed at a guard: "Take Young Master Inlai back with you."

Lu Cen's eyes widened. He had finally managed to get out; how could he go back so easily?

"I'm not going back. I want to go with you to find Ice Blade."

"The journey is fraught with danger, and there's no turning back. Do you know what you're saying?!"

“I know, but if we can’t find the Ice Blade, everyone will die, including me.”

Ados was stung by his words, and his face turned ugly.

Lu Cen raised his stakes: "Besides, if he takes me back alone and we encounter any danger on the way, can he protect me?"

The trees overhead formed a dense canopy, swaying and rustling in the night breeze.

The fire crackled and popped, with a large pot on top, where beef and potatoes were stewed until tender, emitting an enticing aroma.

Lu Cen's face was flushed red by the firelight, and her stomach rumbled uncontrollably.

Ados glanced at him, took out a strange-looking utensil that resembled a bowl from his bag, rinsed it with water, and scooped a large bowl of food into it for him. The others did not bring bowls, only forks, and gathered around the pot to share the food. Before long, the food was gone.

Ados cleared a space in the carriage and spread his heavy coat on it, making it a place he could barely sleep.

She was just yelling that she would take him back, but now she has already made up his bed.

Lu Cen didn't say anything to provoke Yados, but after lying down, his back ached, his buttocks ached, and even his legs ached.

He tossed and turned, peering through the curtain to see that everyone else was sitting or lying on the floor, not making a sound, and he didn't know what time they had fallen asleep.

He woke up to the swaying of the carriage in the morning.

Ados heard movement inside. "Are you awake?"

Lu Cen responded and pushed open the carriage door. Ados, riding on horseback, swayed with the horse's movements. "You can come with me, but you have to agree to one condition."

Fragments of light filtered through the tree branches, illuminating Lu Cen's face and body. "You say it."

"You can't act alone, you can't be too far from me every day, you have to listen to me, and you can't give up no matter how hard or tiring the journey is. Can you do that?"

Lu Cen nodded.
