Chapter 27 Another Self

Chapter 27 Another Self

This explanation, half true and half false, blurred a lot of realities, but it also gave An Zhi an acceptable reason for comfort.

An Zhi blinked her big tearful eyes, with tears still hanging on her long eyelashes.

She looked at Gu Changfeng's gentle smile, and then at Gu Jinyan, who stood beside him with no expression but was standing straight and reliable like a big tree... Her little head tried hard to digest this information.

Her little hand finally and slowly completely released the dagger in her pocket.

The tears gradually stopped, but the little nose was still twitching.

Gu Changfeng didn't care at all, his gaze returned to An Zhi's face, his smile gentle and harmless:

"This starship is called the Light Chaser. I'm Gu Changfeng, and this guy with a stern face and not very good at coaxing children is my son, Gu Jinyan."

He introduced them very naturally, as if he was just introducing two temporary neighbors.

"Now we know each other."

His words were relaxed and natural, as if they had just met a lost child on an ordinary afternoon.

An Zhi looked at the man with a gentle smile and elegant temperament, then looked at the plate of pastries that exuded an enticing sweet aroma... His tense nerves finally showed a crack under the dual effects of fatigue and hunger.

"My name is An Zhi, thank you for bringing me back."

If it's someone you know, it wouldn't be considered eating something given by a stranger...

Gu Changfeng noticed the change in her mood and smiled softer. He pointed to the milk and snacks on the low table:

"Look, this is what your brother prepared specially for you. Eat something, okay? Only when you're full will you have the energy to wait for Uncle Quinn to come back and pick you up.

and……"

He lowered his voice mysteriously and said with a hint of temptation, "We are now in a flying, huge house. We can fly so high and so fast that even the bad guys can't catch up with us!

I'll take you to a place that's ten thousand times more beautiful than your original planet, okay?"

"A flying...big house?" An Zhi's attention was indeed attracted by this novel concept. There was still a glimmer of curiosity in his big eyes, which were still watery.

She looked at the smooth metal walls around her and felt the low hum.

"Flying in the sky? Like... like a big bird?"

"Yes! Like a really, really big silver bird!"

Gu Changfeng smiled and nodded, confirming her imagination.

An Zhi's eyes involuntarily drifted to the plate of sweet and delicious cakes again. His stomach growled in time.

She had hardly eaten anything since she left the main city.

Gu Jinyan caught this subtle movement.

He reached out his hand again, picked up the plate of cakes steadily, took two steps forward, stopped at the bedside where An Zhi could reach, and gently placed the plate on the edge of the bed.

He did not urge, but just stood there quietly, like a silent and steady mountain, waiting patiently.

The pastry was very loose and soft, and melted in the mouth as soon as it was bitten, with a fragrant buttery taste and a pure sweetness that An Zhi had never tasted before.

She ate it in small bites, and the warm milk slid into her stomach.

The capital star described by Gu Changfeng unfolded in his heart like a beautiful painting, temporarily covering up those terrible memories.

However, deeper and more ancient fears and grievances, like mud at the bottom of the water, quietly surged up after a brief period of peace.

She thought of another world, another self.

In that world, the house was always busy and she couldn't remember what her mother looked like.

Her father forbade her to mention it, saying that her mother didn't want her anymore.

Later, another aunt came and An Zhi had a little brother.

The house became lively again, although this liveliness had nothing to do with An Zhi.

They went out to the amusement park, laughing and talking happily, and she tried her best to follow with her short legs.

The amusement park is so big!

It was the first time for An Zhi to see so many new things!

Their family rode a carousel, with Mom and Dad riding in a pumpkin carriage and An Zhi riding in another little white horse.

But there were too many people. As soon as the carousel stopped and turned a corner, she was swept away by the surging crowd.

The huge carousel spun blurrily before her eyes, and all around her were unfamiliar legs and excited smiling faces, none of which she recognized.

Panic washed over her like cold water.

An Zhi searched and searched but couldn't find his family.

The number of people in the amusement park gradually decreased and it was getting dark.

She didn't know where to go, so she could only squat beside the flower bed and cry until her voice became hoarse.

Later, the kind administrator shouted through a loudspeaker for a long time before sending her back.

What greeted her was not a hug, but her father's sullen face and harsh scolding:

"What's wrong with you?! Can't you even look while walking?!

How could you get lost at such a young age? Do you know how much trouble you're causing others?!

You're such a burden! If you do this again, don't come out with us!"

"Burden"... These three words were like thin needles, piercing her little heart.

After that, An Zhi became even quieter and tried to reduce his presence, for fear of causing trouble to anyone again.

She found that adults all like children with good grades.

The neighborhood uncles and aunts will touch the head of the child who gets first place in the exam and praise him/her for being "so smart."

She heard that if you get first place in the entrance exam to the best junior high school in the city, you can get a large scholarship.

"If I have money... Dad will pay me more attention, right? He won't call me a burden anymore, right?"

This small, humble thought became the only light in her bleak life.

An Zhi studied hard and buried all his grievances and desires in books.

Finally, she passed the exam and ranked first!

Holding the thin but heavy admission letter, she felt her steps lighten for the first time, as if she saw even a hint of approval on her father's face.

Then... the harsh sound of brakes, the blinding white light, the huge force of the impact... the world suddenly went dark.

When I woke up again, it was a messy garbage dump, which had become what it was a few years ago.

An Zhi ate the cake in his mouth, but tasted a hint of sourness in the sweetness.

Her little hands unconsciously grasped the edge of the blanket wrapped around her.

So this world... maybe she is really dead?

Will anyone feel sorry for her?

Dad...will you feel like you've finally gotten rid of a trouble?

Quinn...does he also think that she is a useless burden, unable to do the experiment well, and a nuisance?

So you left her on that street corner?

Like Dad at the amusement park?

Now, in this strange world, An Zhi is the only one left.

Without warning, tears welled up again, falling heavily on the dark green military blanket, soaking up the dark dots.

She lowered her head desperately, not wanting the kind brother next to her to see her.

So embarrassing.

An Zhihao is useless.
