Chapter 54: Royal Palace Ruins
Supporters of the "coincidence theory" argue that police resources should not be invested in such mysterious areas.
The two factions argued endlessly, and neither side could convince the other, resulting in a stalemate.
“That’s enough!”
The chief knocked on the table in a deep voice, and the policemen sat down angrily, causing the cups to jump.
He looked around, his face livid.
If they continue to argue like this, they will only miss the opportunity, allowing the criminals to go unpunished or even succeed again.
Everyone's eyes were focused on the director, awaiting his final decision.
In this somewhat oppressive silence, a low and powerful voice sounded.
The speaker was a middle-aged man sitting in the corner. His name was Rod, and he was a strategic analyst for the Sheriff's Bureau. He was serious but well-known for his accurate judgment.
Rhodes pointed the laser pointer at the projection screen. The projection had been forgotten for a long time. The person in charge fiddled with it for a long time before it was played back to the original page.
It looks like a map, with dense lines and textures intertwined.
"It's pointless to argue whether it's a coincidence or not."
"What we need now is how to completely destroy this criminal gang in the shortest possible time and protect the children of Halo Star."
He cleared his throat and continued:
"Based on the intelligence we have so far, these criminals are likely a highly organized group.
And they have some special requirements, quantity.
That’s why criminals choose to strike during festivals because the crowds are chaotic, making it easier to commit crimes and significantly increasing the range of prey they can choose from.”
Rhodes played the next slide, a map of tourist attractions. This map was very familiar to the police officers from Halo Star.
Rhodes said, "Director, there are still two days until the opening ceremony of the festival. The festival banquet will be held at the ruins of the famous ancient palace on Halo Star."
As soon as these words were spoken, everyone in the conference room was shocked.
The ruins of the ancient palace are a symbol of Halo Star and are usually not open to the public. Its structure is complex and the underground passages are crisscrossed. If an accident occurs, the consequences will be unimaginable.
"The palace ruins are usually closed to the public, but on the day of the festival's opening ceremony, they will be the focus of the entire planet's attention. The influx of people will reach its peak, and the security pressure will be unprecedentedly enormous."
Rhode's voice was serious, presenting this perilous scene to everyone. "If the criminals were to strike again, they would definitely choose that time and environment to take a large number of 'prey' at once."
He paused and said, "If they want to take action in such an occasion, they must make careful arrangements in advance, survey the terrain, and set traps.
This means they will likely be active near the palace ruins within the next two days, and may even begin making preparations."
Rhodes' gaze turned to Gu Changfeng again.
"My suggestion is that starting tonight, An Zhi and her family should live near the ruins of the ancient royal palace."
As soon as these words were spoken, there was a cry of surprise in the conference room, and Gu Jinyan's face changed.
"Rod! Are you crazy?!"
Officer Emily practically yelled, her face filled with disbelief and anger, and she stood up abruptly.
“Those are the ruins of a royal palace!
According to you, this is a potential crime scene! Are you going to put Mr. Gu's child in danger? This is basically feeding live bait to the wolf's mouth!
"Be quiet." The director waved his hand to suppress the dissatisfied voices of several people.
At the moment, it seems that there is really no better way than this.
He turned to Gu Changfeng: "Mr. Gu, what do you think?"
Gu Changfeng didn't say anything.
He looked at Gu Changfeng, his tone filled with helplessness, but more of a desperate plea for help, as if he had placed the hopes of the entire planet on An Zhi: "Mr. Gu, I know this request is excessive, even a little cruel.
But now we have no useful clues, those children seem to have disappeared out of thin air.
We don't know where they will go next, and how many families will be broken because of this. If we just sit here and wait for the next misfortune to happen, then we will be the sinners of the Star of Light!
If An Zhi could discover their arrangements in advance, the police could catch them all before they could act! This is the only way to effectively prevent a large-scale tragedy from happening!
The original whispers disappeared, and everyone looked in this direction motionlessly.
As long as Gu Changfeng agrees, the subsequent action plan will all change.
Rhode remained unmoved. He calmly explained, "This is the fastest way. An Zhi's 'tidal wave' seems to only detect 'crying' at close range. If we place her in an area where large-scale crime is most likely to occur, she'll be able to sense it in advance and provide us with the most direct and accurate clues!"
He looked at Gu Changfeng, his tone carrying a hint of helplessness, but more of a desperate plea for help, as if he had pinned the hopes of the entire planet on Gu Changfeng: "Mr. Gu, I know this request is excessive, even a little cruel.

Time seemed to stretch infinitely at this moment. One second, two seconds, five seconds... ten seconds.
The atmosphere in the conference room was extremely depressing. Everyone thought that after such a painful struggle, Gu Changfeng would finally agree with reluctance for the sake of the overall situation and for those innocent children.
Emily's eyes flickered with anticipation, Rhodes' expression was a little nervous, and even Inspector Turner looked like he was looking forward to a good show.
After a long silence, Gu Changfeng gently turned the teacup in his hand.
