Gold Foil Book
Cangyue Courtyard.
She actually didn't like her name. Her brothers were called Fengyang and Chengyi, but she was the hidden moon. Why was she hidden? Her father said, "Because everyone will protect you."
She could no longer recall her childhood. Only after flipping through the Lu family genealogy Hui Zifeng had sent her did she learn who her father and mother were, and how many brothers she had. Relying on these unfamiliar records and portraits, she struggled to integrate her life into that world. In her morning dreams, she remembered that she didn't like her own name, and she vaguely fabricated her memories.
The book records that the daughter of the Deer King and the young master of the Yunsheng Palace secretly got married, and disappeared while hunting four years later.
Hui Zifeng, no, it should be Ji Qing, told her, "You were in danger that year and were taken away by the Luoshen Pearl. I searched for you for a long, long time, but I couldn't find you until I died."
The book records that the young master of Yunsheng Palace died of illness at home at the age of 28.
"I've been looking for you for a longer time, but I can't go back to the time when you were with me." Even those memories were gone without a trace. She used to think Song Shiwen was great, but now she feels that being with Hui Zifeng is great.
Whether Hui Zifeng was the same Hui Jiqing she once was was no longer important to her. Having lost the Luoshen Pearl, she could no longer leave this time. Spending her life with someone who bore Hui Jiqing's bloodline was not a bad idea. No matter how hard she struggled, she couldn't return to her former home. It was time to give up.
She had already spent two weeks alone in this completely unfamiliar country house, and Hui Zifeng still hadn't returned. Such quiet time, aside from causing her to wander, offered no benefit. She had reached the limit of silence.
She walked out of the courtyard and stood there for a while, but Shuixi still hadn't appeared. Before, whenever she stepped out of this door, Shuixi would block her way, looking down on her and asking coldly, "Where are you going?"
She walked a little further, and from the other side of the long corridor, two young women tending to the garden's flowers and plants stared at her. Lu Cangyue wasn't good with people like that. In the past, only Shuixi would approach her, caring for her and chatting with her. Lu Cangyue didn't like to talk, so the chances of seeing someone around her were like sunrise and sunset.
She had long known that Shuixi was not her brother. He was the guardian beast of Yunsheng Palace, now guarding the descendants of the Hui family. This was what Wenjie had told her.
Chaolai Pavilion collapsed, targeted by lightning. Wen Jie, attempting to single-handedly restore the ruined tower, was forced into a tunnel. There, he witnessed Lu Cangyue's numerous journeys through time and space, learning of her quest to find her lover and the Tan Songqi incident. Then, he saw the protagonist depicted on the wall, standing before him, alive and well.
"I seem to have seen you somewhere." This was Wen Jie's first sentence.
There were also two sentences on the stone wall recording Wen Jie's story. Although Cang Yue could not recall their past, she was sure that Wen Jie was a friend she could trust.
Later, they discovered the tomb and read the story of He'ai and Shuixi. She said, "No wonder Shuixi took me in and treated me like a sister. It turns out he and He'ai are as close as brothers!"
But Wenjie retorted, "He'ai is on your side, and Shuixi is on the opposite side. He is the evil king's eagle claw."
At the time, she was distracted by other things and hadn't thought carefully about what Wenjie had said. It was only when she was alone these days that she slowly recalled that Wenjie had said Shuixi was a bad person, the eagle claw of the evil king.
The protagonist in the painting that Wen Jie was looking at at that time was wearing a ferocious mask and was dominating the area. The clouds behind him were the living stone statue of Shuixi.
Lu Cangyue was almost out the door, but Shuixi still hadn't appeared. So, why wouldn't she go out for a bit? These people were there to take care of her, not to keep her under surveillance.
But as soon as she pushed open the door, two pairs of eyes focused on her from both sides and stared at her.
There were two bodyguards who were gathered at the door, talking and about to smoke a cigarette. They didn't expect that the door would be opened from the inside. Both of them were startled and looked at each other in surprise.
Like a rabbit, he poked his head out of the hole.
"Who told you to come out? Go back!" One of them reacted first and threatened impatiently.
He went to close the door while still asking his teammates to light cigarettes, but he didn't expect the door to be closed. Turning back, he saw the fragile, pitiful girl holding the heavy door with one hand, preventing him from pulling it even a little. The girl glared at him, her eyes as aggressive as a leopard's pupils.
"Who allowed you to lock me up here?!" Lu Cangyue opened the door and punched the red wooden door with a "bang".
There's a steel plate hidden inside that wooden door! The two bodyguards were stunned. Where Lu Cangyue's fist landed, a deep dent appeared, almost as thick as the wooden door, but her skin was completely unscathed, delicate and flawless.
"Who else could it be? Whoever you're waiting for is the one who left you here."
Shuixi finally appeared, leaning against the door, teasing out of boredom.
Lu Cangyue put away his edge and walked back obediently.
"I thought you had left, so I went out to look for you." She didn't like being bound, and for Hui Zifeng, she voluntarily stayed in this house and waited for his return.
She sensed Shuixi hadn't caught up, so she turned to look. Shuixi was still leaning against the door, watching her from afar. That expression, how could one describe it? Lu Cangyue found it strange. Shuixi used to be so aggressive, but now she looked like she had subsided, waiting to be rescued.
She just stood there, looking at him, waiting for him. After a long time, Shuixi finally came over.
"When will He'an come back?"
Can he still find me? Unconsciously, He Ai quietly disappeared and has not appeared since then.
She had no expectations. If He'an wanted to find his own way out, she wouldn't stop him. But the thought of him leaving without even saying goodbye after being with her for so long always made her feel uneasy.
The path beneath her feet was uneven. Zang Yue nearly tripped over the grassy slope. After stabilizing herself, she smelled the warm fragrance of grass and trees, which made her feel refreshed. Just then, Shui Xi's voice came from behind her.
"What would you do if I told you that I killed He'an?"
He Ai was killed.
The joy that penetrated my heart suddenly solidified and turned into bitterness.
"Where is his body?"
"Right before your eyes." Shuixi looked somewhat pleased with himself, completely devoid of the desolate expression he had earlier. "How could a house-guarding beast have a corpse? He vanished before he could even say a word. His original form is now shattered into pieces, and Mingyan has consigned it to the trash heap."
"You two are a pair of guardian beasts, born and dying together. How could this happen?" Lu Cangyue began to doubt the book's description. It clearly stated that the two guardian beasts were created to be loyal and indestructible, living and dying together. "How could you kill each other?"
Shuixi looked at her with contempt, said nothing more, and quickened his pace to help her lift the bead curtain.
Many more things are not recorded in the book.
Looking through the books on the table again, Lu Cangyue finally noticed something was amiss. In Ming Yan's warehouse was a gold-leaf book dating back over four thousand years. When she opened it, all she saw were numerous red seals the size of apricot blossoms. She turned on the TV and found a rerun of a television program.
"In orthodox records, official seals were used as punctuation marks. This shows that these records required multiple review and approval, indicating that people at that time had already developed an understanding of historical recording."
"There are very few of these things left. Furthermore, they are similar to modern objects, so most people might not think they are antiques..."
What did they look like? The gold-foiled books in Lu Cangyue's hands were as thin as paper, lacking the brilliance of Mingyan's. They lay on the table like ordinary, aged, antique books. But as soon as you touched them, you knew they were made of metal.
Opening it, it was written in characters Lu Cangyue recognized as being from over 4,000 years ago. The only punctuation marks were spaces, and in some places, there was a faint dot. There was no seal at all.
These books are fake! Hui Zifeng showed them to her, only wanting what she knew. Or, perhaps, he had fabricated a dream from the past.
The interior of this house imitates her childhood home and the former Yunsheng Palace.
Should he expose her or pretend he didn't know? She had become someone else's caged bird.
She wrapped one of the books in old newspapers and then wrapped it in thick layers of gift paper. As she walked out of the yard, Shuixi came to meet her again.
"Where are you going?"
"I have a gift for a friend."
Shuixi saw what she was hiding in her arms, stretched out two slender fingers, and wanted to take the book away, "Give it to me."
Zang Yue didn't let go.
"I know what it is." Shuixi chuckled, "We can't let others know about this thing. It will cause trouble."
"That's perfect. What does getting into trouble have to do with me?" Cang Yue hugged the book tightly, determined to fight Shui Xi. "Wen Jie is right. You are the Evil King's eagle claw, a guardian beast. Why would you not protect your house but help someone conquer the world?"
A guardian beast should not leave the house it guards.
She was stunned when she said this. If that was the case, why did He Ai follow her? The Hui family had not declined to this day.
There was no record of this evil king in the gold-leaf books. However, legend had it that he had once been a monk who prayed for the people. Could it be that the man she loved was such a notorious and cruel prince, disguised as a kind man?
She doesn't remember anything!
"Why? Why would I do this?" Shuixi gave Zangyue a gentle push, causing her to stumble backwards, sending the gold-foiled book flying from her arms. Shuixi caught it gracefully, his gaze never leaving Zangyue. His leopard-like eyes, gleaming with coldness, forced Zangyue back, seemingly filled with resentment. "I have to ask you all this. Why did you cause the Young Master of Yunsheng Palace to die for you?"
