Chapter 1: New Life

China, 1963, Forward Brigade.

The tail end of the three-year disaster could still be seen faintly, as the land had been dug up everywhere. The advancing team had the mountains behind them, so they didn't have to gnaw on tree bark or eat Guanyin soil.

Inside the Sun family courtyard.

Two boys with big heads and small bodies, who looked no more than four or five years old, were standing on a long bench and leaning against the window to look at what was happening inside the house.

Old Mrs. Sun was busy in the room, comforting her daughter-in-law who was pregnant and about to give birth.

Giving birth to a child is not as simple as a hen laying eggs. It costs half of a woman's life, so she has to be careful.

"Xiuzhen, calm down. I'll go to the kitchen and get you a bowl of egg drop soup to fill your stomach so you can have the strength to give birth."

As Old Lady Sun spoke, she walked towards the stove. When she reached the stove door, she saw a group of little kids gathered around Mrs. Sun. She used chopsticks to wet the kids' mouths one by one. Old Lady Sun coughed in a serious manner. The little kids turned around and saw that it was their grandmother, and they dispersed. They also knew that the egg drop soup was for their aunt who was about to give birth.

Mrs. Sun said with a smile on her face, "Mom, these frangipani flowers are ripe and smell delicious. I think they are almost done, so I'm going to serve them to Xiuzhen."

Old Mrs. Sun took the frangipani, weighed it secretly, and estimated that the amount was about right. Without saying anything, she caught a glimpse of two figures lying on the window of the third room and was startled.

It was pitch dark in the middle of the night, and two figures suddenly appeared. Fortunately, Old Mrs. Sun remained calm. At a quick glance, she found that they were the two boys from the third brother's family.

Old Lady Sun shouted towards the main hall, "Old Third, what are you doing? Your butt has fallen into the main hall. Why don't you drag your two boys away? They are standing by the window watching the show. Aren't you afraid of being scared?"

Old Mrs. Sun roared and walked into the house muttering to herself.

"Xiuzhen, come, get up and eat frangipani."

There was a rustling noise coming from inside the house. Mrs. Sun outside sniffed the smell of eggs in the air calmly and couldn't help swallowing her saliva.

Just now, when she was in the kitchen, she secretly used her chopsticks to dip the soup for the children to satisfy their cravings. She also secretly took a few bites with her chopsticks. The taste was really good.

Thinking of this, I put my tongue against my teeth and sucked hard. It seemed that there was still a taste left.

It was very cold at night and the snow outside had not melted yet. The cold air rushed into people's bodies. Mrs. Sun rubbed her hands and exhaled from time to time, and stamped her feet.

In the middle of the night, Wang Xiuzhen's cries in the house became louder and louder. The shrill screams made people feel uneasy. The third brother Sun Xuejun couldn't help but walk back and forth in the main room, with sweat on his forehead.

The pregnancy was dangerous and the birth was difficult, but fortunately both mother and daughter are safe.

"Xiuzhen, it's a girl, she's nice to look at, just lie down."

Old Mrs. Sun skillfully cut off her belly button with scissors. She herself gave birth to four sons and two daughters, and her four daughters-in-law gave birth to a total of eight grandchildren. She learned how to deliver babies by watching them, not to mention that she also delivered a granddaughter for the fourth daughter's family the day before.

"Guihua, get a basin of hot water and wash the child. Warm him up and give Xiuzhen a tummy massage. Then make the bed!"

"I know, Mom!"

Mrs. Sun ran to the kitchen to warm up, then went into the room and cleaned up quickly.

"Xiuzhen, this girl's crying sounds quite loud, she's a strong girl."

Old Mrs. Sun had a loud voice, and her words were heard throughout the entire yard. Sun Xuejun in the main room sat down on a bench and didn't move for a long time. His hands and feet were weak. He let out a long breath, and the baby was finally born.

The sounds of conversation in each room gradually died down, and the night fell into silence.

It was the beginning of spring, and the timing was just right, not a minute more or a second less.

When the baby girl arrived, countless plant seeds dormant in the ground were activated, ready to burst forth when the weather warmed up. A thin layer of green mist covered the hillsides, paths, and fields, a truly delightful sight. It was only in the dead of night, when the seeds hadn't grown above the surface, that no one noticed them.

"Mom, Xiuzhen's baby is pretty and fair, unlike the one at my house, which was red and wrinkled when it was born. You can tell at a glance that she has a yellow skin like me."

As Mrs. Sun spoke, she reached out and gently wiped the face of the baby in Mrs. Sun's arms.

"This hair is so black and thick, it's so rare." Old Mrs. Sun looked at the baby's hair. Sure enough, she was right. If she married a beautiful woman to the third wife, the baby she would give birth to would look different. All the children in her family had yellow hair.

The little baby smacked his lips unconsciously and frowned. It was so adorable that it would melt anyone's heart.

Old Mrs. Sun was beaming with joy. These days people valued having many children and a better life. She was not a wicked mother-in-law who favored sons over daughters. On the contrary, she preferred her granddaughter because it was not easy to have a girl.

"Xiu-jin, Nuo, look at my granddaughter. She's just like me when I was young."

Mrs. Sun and Wang Xiuzhen looked at each other with smiles in their eyes. They were immune to what Old Lady Sun said. She thought that if they had a grandson, he would look like their grandfather, and if they had a granddaughter, she would look like herself.

Wang Xiuzhen tilted her head and looked at the baby lying beside her. She felt that it was worth it that she had spent half her life on this baby. Her heart ached and she felt that this life was enough.

Ola felt extremely sleepy. His eyelids seemed to weigh a thousand pounds and he couldn't open them. He was in a daze and felt groggy.

Hadn't she already dispersed into the spirit forest? Why was she still conscious? That shouldn't have happened.

Sacrificing souls is a taboo. If it weren't for the descendants of the elves, she wouldn't dare to do it. The invading orc king must have been wiped out.

She exchanged a high priest for the Beast King and his sharp subordinates. It was not a loss at all!

She has made the best arrangements for Elf Forest, and from now on it depends on them.

She was too tired. She had been the high priestess of the elves for thousands of years, working diligently without a moment's slack.

There were a thousand thoughts in my mind, but I couldn't bear it now that I was in the baby's body, so I fell asleep again involuntarily.

"Okay, let's go. Let Xiuzhen have a good rest."

"Mom, please walk slowly."

“Hey!”

The house returned to the silence of the night.

"Squeak."

The wooden door made a sour, old-fashioned sound, and Sun Xuejun entered the house holding one person and dragging another by his leg.

The one at his feet is Sun Sen, the eldest son of the third branch of the Sun family, and the one he is holding is the second son, Sun Lin. Sun Lin is already fast asleep, like a little pig.

Sun Sen rubbed his eyes, ran to the bed, and stretched his head to look at his sister. He heard from his grandmother that his mother had given birth to a sister who was very pretty.

"Mom, my sister is so small, and not as pretty as grandma said."

Sun Sen was obviously a little disappointed. His sister was too young to play war games with him. He wanted a female soldier.

"Your sister has grown up and become more beautiful. You looked similar to your sister when you were a child."

Sun Sen nodded, seemingly understanding, and continued, "When my sister grows up, I'll take her to catch fish, play marbles, and... "

"What else is there? Go to bed. If you don't sleep at night, you won't grow taller and won't be able to play with your sister."

Sun Xuejun put his second child to sleep on the bed in the inner room. When he came out, he heard this friendly scene and felt relieved.

"I'll get up early tomorrow to see my sister!"

Sun Sen said something to his father, then ran into the inner room with a mumble.

Sun Xuejun shook his head in amusement and muttered, "Brat."

"Xiuzhen, how are you? Are you still feeling uncomfortable?" He turned his head and looked at Wang Xiuzhen with burning eyes.

Seeing that loving look, Wang Xiuzhen felt as sweet as honey. She hadn't suffered much since marrying into the Sun family. Her mother-in-law was kind, her sisters-in-law were friendly, and she could even have eggs to eat these days. She glanced at him:

"No, I'm not feeling bad anymore, Jun brother, come and see our daughter."

Sun Xuejun bent down and took a look: "You are worthy of being my son, just like me." As he said this, he did not forget to touch his face.

Wang Xiuzhen feigned anger, "Same as you? Don't do that."

"Okay, okay, my daughter is as beautiful as you, okay?"

Wang Xiuzhen nodded as a matter of course.

Sun Xuejun reached out and nodded at Wang Xiuzhen, without saying anything, and went to bed. The little girl slept in the middle.

It was late at night. Two rays of light appeared on the forehead and heart of the baby lying in the middle, one blue and one green. They intertwined and danced, traveling from the baby girl's head to her toes, slowly fading until they disappeared.

The baby girl's frown relaxed, her expression became calm and peaceful, and she looked a bit like the High Priest Aura.

No words were spoken that night.

It was just daybreak, and this was the time to stay at home for the winter. They didn't have to get up early, and lying in bed could save some food. The Sun family had two meals a day, and after noon they had to go to the fields to clear the ditches and loosen the soil so that they could grow crops next year.

After a night, Ola had heard everything the mother tree should have told her. She already understood what she should have understood. Who would be willing to dissipate the world if they could still live? It was just a matter of changing time and space and changing the way of living.

Inside the room, Aura felt her bottom getting hot, and she felt like she was struck by lightning. She was so old, yet she was still like this... like this...

Aura stood stiff and stiff, not daring to move. She, a thousand-year-old cucumber painted green, had no idea how this human baby should react, but she had no idea how to react. She had to remain constant in the face of change. However, the human race was known for its xenophobia, so she had to be cautious in the future.

Ola opened his eyes, but the view in front of him was foggy and he could not see clearly. He looked hard at the house, which was made of mud mixed with stones. It was extremely shabby, and it seemed that he was born into a poor human family.

She could clearly sense that there was someone next to her, it was her mother.

She moved her hands slightly, but they were limp and she could only curl up her fingers. They were not very flexible and she could not kick her legs weakly, just like her hands.

Are all human babies so weak?

Forget it, just accept it and let nature take its course.

Dibo's little butt felt cold, and he endured it without daring to move, but his brows were still frowned unconsciously.

"Hey, baby is awake, so good! Mommy, check to see if he has peed his bottom?"

As he said that, he unwrapped the quilt, lifted up Ola's calf, and put his hand under her butt. It was cold and not warm at all.

Ola couldn't struggle, and had no desire to live, so she had to let Wang Xiuzhen do what she wanted.

Then she changed the diaper and held Ola in her arms, ready to feed her. She didn't have much milk, so she just fed the baby to satisfy her hunger and trick him into giving it a try.

Something was stuffed into Ola's mouth, and his body's instincts awakened. His mouth moved and sucked, and a little bit of fishy liquid entered his mouth, which he quickly swallowed.

She is hungry.

It was just a little bit, which was not enough. She sucked even harder, and her stomach felt empty, as if a gluttonous worm was gnawing at her intestines, and she couldn't rest for a moment.

"Hiss, be gentle."

Wang Xiuzhen was in so much pain when Ola ate her that tears came to her eyes. She was afraid that if she snatched food from Ola's mouth, she would hurt him, so she just endured it.

When Ola saw that he couldn't suck it out, he loosened his mouth. His stomach was not full and he felt uncomfortable everywhere.
