Chapter 26: Meeting

At night, the cold wind howled and waves of shouting spread from the west to the east of the village.

Sun Ye opened his eyes wide, not feeling sleepy at all. The sound of the wind outside had a unique sense of poignant beauty.

With hands on the back of the head, he kicked the quilt away, crossed his legs and followed the rhythm of the wind.

He suddenly knelt up, threw the quilt on the bed to the ground, clasped his hands in a lotus position, and lowered his head on the bed.

He slowly spread out his hands, looked forward, and raised them slowly upwards with a solemn expression.

She spun around and jumped, kicking her feet. In a trance, she seemed to see little bells tinkling around her ankles.

Sun Ye was like a gust of wind, free and unrestrained, reveling in an unreal beauty.

After a long time, Sun Ye lowered his head and stopped.

It has been a long time since she last performed the sacrificial dance. If she had not traveled through time and space, and if time and space were the same, she would probably still be dancing on the altar tonight.

After dancing, I feel more at ease and comfortable.

Sun Ye calmed down his excited mood and bent down to pick up the quilt on the ground. It was easy to kick the quilt off, but it was a bit difficult to pick it up.

She has plenty of strength, but the baby is too big, and it takes a lot of effort to hug it until it's round.

"Ye Zi, what are you doing so late at night? You keep making these ding-dong noises. Your bed can't handle the tossing and turning you make."

Mother Sun didn't come in, she just shouted from the window, saying it should be eight or nine o'clock now.

"Nothing, I just had to go to the professor's tomorrow, and I couldn't sleep, so I just rolled over."

Sun Ye was very calm. How could she say that the noise in Sun Ma's room was louder than hers? The sound insulation was not good at all. She had sharp ears, so she was afraid that she would hear her noise just after she finished.

No wonder children these days are running out one after another. Without any entertainment activities, how can most of them just lie in bed after dark?

"Do you want mom to sleep with you?"

"No! No, I'll sleep alone. I'll go to sleep right away."

Sun Ye crawled into bed and refused repeatedly. She didn't want to see her father Sun's gloomy face tomorrow morning.

"Okay, then go to sleep."

Sun Ye realized that his mother had left and breathed a sigh of relief, a sweet relief from his worries.

the next day.

Sun Ye got up early, twisted her waist, shook her arms, and stretched her muscles. She took out the clothes she thought were beautiful, a large green flowered jacket. Although it had three or four patches and was a bit big, it made Sun Miao, the girl, very envious.

Her hair was tied up with a red hairband and braided into two pigtails. Her hair was darker and shinier than that of other children. This beautiful hair was what she was most satisfied with.

She went to the kitchen to get hot water to wash her face. Mother Sun was afraid that Sun Ye couldn't wash it clean, so she rubbed her face hard. She felt like her own skin was being rubbed off.

Sun's mother also tidied up. Sun's father had already changed into decent clothes. Sun's mother went into the house and took out a basket of eggs. Sun Ye counted them quietly and there were about ten of them.

This is a big deal, enough to buy a whole jar of salt. It's not that Sun's mother doesn't feel bad, but she is happy to do it for Sun Ye.

Her home is the closest to the educated youth point nearby, so it won’t take long to get there.

There were two educated youths living in the educated youth site, both of whom were teachers in the school. The rest were eight people who lived with Professor Liu, five of whom were older and three were younger, about fifteen or sixteen years old, and were his grandchildren.

Professor Liu did not bring his grandchildren with him. To be more precise, his grandchildren were unwilling to come here with him.

Other people are married couples, but his wife passed away early, his son is in the army, and his daughter-in-law doesn't want his grandson to suffer with him, but he doesn't force her.

"Professor Liu, Professor Liu..."

"It's Aunt Sun, Grandpa Liu has been waiting for a long time."

The person who opened the door was a young man, who had been sent by his grandparents to watch over the gate early in the morning.

"Yeah, fine."

Sun Ye was dragged by her mother to the legendary educated youth site for the first time. Usually, they were forbidden by their parents from going to the educated youth site.

There are five rooms in total, one of which is the main room, where they usually eat. It is made of mud and is not as big as her room. There are two large stone tables in the middle of the yard, and there are quite a lot of firewood piled on them.

Before Sun Ye had time to look around, his mother quietly reminded him not to look around, saying that he had no manners at all.

After hearing this, Sun Ye stopped looking around. She had indeed gotten carried away. The three of them followed the young man in front.

"My name is Lin Qianjin. I have a connection with our Qianjin Brigade. You can just call me Xiaolin."

"Okay, Xiaolin."

The journey was not long, and we arrived before we had time to say anything.

Dad Sun rubbed his hands, straightened his already neatly-fitting clothes, and then led the family in.

"Professor Liu."

"Xuejun, you are here."

"What have you considered?"

Professor Liu was impatient with those meaningless greetings and pleasantries. It was just a routine question. He actually already knew the answer. The answer was in Sun Ma's hand.

"Professor Liu, it's a blessing for Ye Zi to be able to study with you. Don't worry, if Ye Zi doesn't obey in the future, just scold her."

"I don't have anything good at home, this is just a small token of my appreciation. I hope Professor Liu doesn't despise it."

"Good! Good! Good!"

At Professor Liu's signal, another young man took the egg from Sun Ma's hand.

There were eight people in the main room, all of them were educated youth. As for Teacher Li Qingqing, they were busy in the kitchen. When Li Qingqing learned that Mr. Liu was going to accept Sun Ye as his student, it was impossible for her not to feel envious.

Although Sun Ye looks inconspicuous at school, she has great prestige in the class. Those naughty kids may not listen to her, but as long as Sun Ye gives them a look, they will become obedient.

An old lady who was about the same age as Grandma Sun first asked Sun's mother and the others to sit down.

"Your name is Sun Ye, right? Come to grandma."

Sun Ye glanced at his mother, who nodded, and then Sun Ye came to her.

"Hello grandma, I'm Sun Ye."

"Yeah, fine."

"Just call me Grandma Lin. You're such a smart girl."

Grandma Lin looked very kind, gently touched Sun Ye's pigtails, and continued to ask:

"How old are you?"

“I’m six years old.”

"What can you recite?"

Sun Ye was a little confused. Shouldn't she have known this in advance? Her teacher Li Qingqing was also here, and Grandma Lin must have asked about this.

"I can recite "Village Poems" and "Quiet Night Thoughts"..."

"Really? That little leaf is really amazing. Grandma Lin doesn't remember how to recite it. Can little leaf recite it to her?"

It had been so long since she had heard this tone of voice used to coax a child, and she actually missed it a little for a moment.

"Poems on the Mountain Village, Song Dynasty, Shao Yong."

"After walking two or three miles, you'll find four or five smoke-filled villages."

"Six or seven pavilions, eighty or ninety branches of flowers."

“That’s awesome!”

Grandma Lin smiled and applauded Sun Ye, and Sun's mother and father breathed a sigh of relief. Although this matter was a foregone conclusion and there was no getting around it, it was also good for Ye Zi to get the sincere recognition of others.

"Here, Grandma Lin, here are some candies as a reward for Xiao Ye." Grandma Lin took out four or five black candies from her pocket.

It's chocolate!

Sun Ye had just eaten it yesterday and remembered it very clearly. She likes chocolate.

Sun Ye turned around first, and when he saw his mother nod slightly, he took the chocolate.

He still didn't forget to say thank you: "Thank you, Grandma Lin."

Grandma Lin smiled, looked at Professor Liu, and said, "You have a good student. He is well-behaved, sensible, and smart."

"That's a must."

Professor Liu was also quite satisfied. Then Sun Ye stayed obediently in her mother's arms and listened to them praising her in various ways. Her face turned red.

"Xuejun, let's eat here today before going back."

"Professor Liu, I can't do that right now. I have two kids waiting for me at home."

"Hey, everything is done. Sun Ye, go call those two kids over so we can have some fun together."

"Professor Liu, this is too troublesome, so let's not do it."

"Yes."

"Ye Zi, go call your two brothers to come for dinner. Don't listen to your parents, okay?"

Grandma Lin whispered in Sun Ye's ear, and Sun Ye also understood that it was not a good idea to ask his brothers to come at this time, as it was too much of an ask.

She ran to Grandma Sun, who pretended not to hear anything and ignored everything, telling her to leave such matters to her parents. She was just a child.

Sun's mother and father forced a smile before speaking, "Professor Liu, there's no need to call those two boys. I'm afraid they haven't woken up yet."

After another round of trouble, Sun's mother and father finally sat down to eat together.

The dishes were plentiful, with meat and plenty of oil. There was a dish that looked like a clam shell, which Sun Ye later found out was oysters, and a pot of seaweed and shrimp soup.

This place is far from the seaside, and seafood is not easily seen. Sun's parents don't even know how to eat it.

No one showed any contempt, and they calmly taught the Sun family how to eat. People learn from not knowing how to do something, they are not born knowing how to do it.

Sun Ye doesn’t like eating oysters very much. She thinks they have a fishy smell, which makes her feel uncomfortable. After eating one, she doesn’t eat much more.

Moreover, when eating here, one cannot just rush to eat without thinking like at home, even though she doesn't need to rush because the bowls are already full of food from the two grandmothers.

They were all her favorite meats. As for the oysters, she reluctantly ate one. When others saw how slowly she ate, they knew what was going on.

Professor Liu was halfway through his meal when he slapped his head and suddenly realized something: "Look at me, I'm old and my memory is not good. I still have a bottle of wine in my room. Today is a good day, I should have a couple of sips."

"Haha, thanks to Xiao Ye, we can satisfy our cravings today. Old Liu usually treasures his bottle of wine."

"Don't drink too much!"

Grandma Lin took a glance and gave a symbolic word of advice before stopping it today.

"Okay, okay, I'll just take a small sip, just a small cup."

Seeing this, Mr. and Mrs. Sun also smiled.

The people in this room are considered young people, so it's always better for them to be more polite.

Sun Ye was oblivious to the world outside, only focused on munching on various meats. She really enjoyed the seaweed soup; it was fresh and fragrant, full of seafood, yet without a single fishy smell.

She was full and her belly was bulging. She had a good meal.

There were still men at the table drinking, with Sun's father accompanying them. Sun Ye followed Sun's mother and Grandma Lin to the yard to get some fresh air. The house was filled with a strong smell of alcohol.

"Come, little Ye Zi, show it to Grandma Guo. Grandma hasn't even given us a gift yet."

There were also four or five pieces of chocolate. This time, Sun Miao took it and thanked him without his mother's nod.
