Chapter 4 Happy

The early morning sunlight slanted down on the roof of the Sun family's house. Sun Ye was sleeping in the room, unaware of anything. Little bubbles were coming out of his mouth, and his drool had wet the little pillow.

Fortunately, Sun Ye didn’t know, otherwise he would be depressed all day and unable to let go.

Mother Sun tiptoed into the inner room. Their house was divided into two rooms, where the two brothers Sun Sen slept.

"Senzi, get up, the sun is shining on your butt." Sun's mother shook Sun Sen, who was sleeping soundly, and called him to get up.

"Mom, let me lie down for a while, just a little while." Sun Sen wrapped himself tightly in the quilt, buried his head in it, and said in a muffled voice.

"Hurry up and get out of bed. You're late for school. Be good."

There was silence under the quilt for a while before a sound was heard.

"I'll get up, Mom."

When Sun Sen agreed, Mother Sun turned around and left. She had to go to the town with Old Lady Sun to pick out chicks. She was good at sorting roosters and hens.

The wooden door was ajar, not closed tightly. As the sun rose higher, the sunlight kept moving, and a ray of light shone directly into Sun Ye's eyelids.

Sun Ye's eyelashes trembled, and he opened his eyes slightly, shielding his eyes from the sunlight with his hands. He turned over and got up, looking around. Very good, after a good sleep, the person is gone.

She yawned delicately, tears streaming down her face. She wiped them away and accidentally saw a small wet spot, which made her stunned for a moment.

Did she do this?

While no one is aware, kick the little pillow with your little feet to a sunny place and let it dry in the sun.

What no one knew was that she had never drooled!

A panicked cry came from the inner room, and Sun Sen ran out with his shoes on, carrying a schoolbag that his mother had sewn with old clothes. He passed by Sun Ye and saw that Sun Ye was hunched over, so he came over and splashed a mouthful of water on Sun Ye.

"Mom, I'm going to school!"

"Slow down! It's still early, you haven't even washed your face yet..."

"Aunt, why is Senzi running?"

"Won't he go with us?" Sun Lannie asked.

There are two children in the eldest room who are going to school, one in the second room, only Sun Sen in the third room, and the child in the fourth room is only two months old.

There is a primary school in Qianjin Brigade. The teachers there are educated youth who voluntarily went to the countryside. They are city dwellers, all college students, and very knowledgeable.

Responding to the call to support the countryside, farming still requires experienced farmers to master it. So, the team leader decided to simply have someone teach the children to read and write, instead of being blind.

The children in the brigade could go to school for free when they reached the age, while the children in other brigades had to pay a fee of ten cents. The educated youth could only teach for six centimeters a day, which was much better than a day of hard work where they could only learn five or six centimeters at most. It was hard and tiring, but both sides were satisfied.

However, classes have to be suspended during the busy farming season so that we can join in the harvest and planting rush.

"Moriko might be nervous because it's her first day at school."

This was the only explanation Sun's mother could give, with a hint of uncertainty in her tone.

"Oh, all right then. We'll go together again tomorrow. Aunt San, you must call him back."

"Okay, okay, let's go quickly so we don't get late."

"Uh-huh."

Sun Ye was lying face down on the bed. All the saliva left by Sun Sen on her face had been wiped clean without a trace.

She would definitely not let that bad boy Sun Sen kiss her again tomorrow. He didn't even brush his teeth and had no hygiene.

I learned this word from Sun's mother. She couldn't understand why not brushing teeth was unhygienic. She was an elf who hadn't brushed her teeth for thousands of years, and she was shot in the back while lying down.

"Ye Zi, you stay home and play with Sister Miao'er from Fourth Aunt's house today. Your mom and your grandma will go to town to buy some fluffy yellow chickens. They can lay eggs for our Ye Zi to eat, okay?"

Mother Sun dressed Sun Ye, carried him to the fourth room, and put him on the bed with Miao'er.

As soon as Sun Miao saw Ye Zi, he pounced on her and hugged her tightly, refusing to let go.

Sun Ye pulled at Sun Miao's little hand, but couldn't get it free. She pushed again, but it was still the same. She gave up and just lay down and let him play.

Sun Miao noticed that Sun Ye was not moving, so he let go of his hand and was ready to repeat the same trick. However, he didn't find the right position, so he also lay down, and the two of them lay in a vertical line.

Sun Miao screamed and asked Aunt Sun to help her up, kicking her hands and feet wildly.

Mother Sun pointed at Sun Ye and said to Zhang Xiuying, "Xiuying, I'm sorry to bother you with Ye Zi."

"Don't worry, it's okay. I can see one or two of them. Besides, you see how much the seedlings like the leaves. I wish the leaves would come every day."

At the door, Old Lady Sun was carrying a basket on her back and calling out, "Xiuzhen, are you okay?"

"Then I'm leaving."

"Well, go ahead."

"Ye Zi, be good and wait for mommy to come back and buy you something delicious."

Sun Ye turned his back to the door, scratched his chest lightly with his little hands, then let go, turned to his mother and cried "Ah".

Finally she left. Sun Ye bent his head and stretched his neck, and he didn't stop until he could no longer see his mother's back.

"Ye Zi, you and Miao Er are playing on the bed. Aunt Si is going to sweep the floor."

Aunt Sun didn't expect the two kids to understand what she said, so she just expressed it verbally.

Aunt Sun Si helped Sun Miao to stand up straight and half leaned on the pillow, and Sun Ye did the same.

When Sun Ye saw that his fourth aunt was sweeping the floor, he turned his head to look at Sun Miao who was making a fuss beside her. Suddenly, he felt like playing a prank. He grinned, widened his eyes, and made an expression that he thought was very scary.

Sun Miao was stunned, then laughed even louder, making "ah ah ah" sounds, obviously wanting Sun Ye to do it again.

What's going on? She saw Sun Lin being frightened by Sun Sen in this way before, but it didn't work?

After hesitating for a moment, she reluctantly did it again because she was a precious little cub.

Sun Miao laughed again, his laughter was giggling, his saliva was flowing, his chin was submerged, and his whole body was shaking.

Sun Ye looked at Sun Miao and smiled too. As expected, little ones are always the cutest creatures.

When Aunt Sun heard the noise in the room, she stuck her head out to take a look and saw the two little ones laughing so hard that they were rolling on the ground. She didn't disturb them too much.

Aunt Sun Si fed Sun Miao with milk. Sun Miao was the first child in the fourth wife's family, so her milk was enough for Sun Miao.

Just when she was about to feed Sun Ye, he turned his head away and refused to eat. Aunt Sun had no choice but to go to the kitchen to cook sweet potatoes for Sun Ye. She boiled the sweet potatoes with water, just like porridge, until they were soft. She picked a handful of small green vegetables in the garden, chopped them finely, and cooked them together with the sweet potatoes. Then she gave it to Sun Ye, and only then did Sun Ye open his mouth.

After feeding the two little ones, she also wanted to have lunch, so she took the food directly to the room and ate it, watching the two little ones from close by.

When Sun's mother came back, Sun Ye was asleep. She carried Sun Ye back to her room to sleep and nodded to Fourth Aunt to show her gratitude.

Old Mrs. Sun put the two chicks in the pigpen. Since there were no pigs there, they were furry and chirped.

Nowadays, with the planned economy, every household can only raise two chickens. As long as they are registered in the household registration book, no matter how many people there are, they can only raise two chickens. Otherwise, it would be considered capitalism, and capitalism is unacceptable.

Because of this, some people split up. Chicken butt money nest is a legitimate way to make money. If you exchange eggs for them at the supply and marketing cooperative, you can get one cent per egg.

At that time, if a family had a few dozen dollars, life was very good and they would be considered wealthy families in the village.

Sun Lin received an order from his mother last night, asking him to bring home any insects or earthworms he saw and feed them to the chickens. When the chickens grow up and lay eggs, they can eat eggs every day.

If Sun Lin wants to eat eggs every day, he has to look for them carefully.

When Sun Ye woke up and saw his mother coming back, he naturally stretched out his hands for a hug, as if he was used to it.

Sun Lin came back with a handful of earthworms. Sun Ye looked at the twisted and entangled earthworms, got goosebumps, closed his eyes and hid in his mother's arms.

She wasn't afraid of earthworms, she just felt disgusted.

Mother Sun was also shocked and told Sun Lin to throw it into the chicken coop. She didn't dare to touch it at all.

Mother Sun pointed at Sun Lin and said, "You unlucky child, you can't find leaves to wrap it up and bring it back. You have to hold it in your hands. Now, go wash your hands yourself."

Sun Lin was laughing foolishly.

After washing his hands, Sun Lin squatted on the ground and watched the chicks pecking at earthworms, occasionally instructing the chickens on how to eat.

Sun Wu from the first wife's house and Sun He from the second wife's house also came in with things in their hands and bent over.

Sun's mother told them that the chickens were in the pigpen and told them to wash their hands and then ignored them. Why are these kids so stupid? Is their father like this?

In a flash, Sun Sen got out of school. This time he came back with Sun Lannie and the others.

He was so excited that he kept talking when he got home, saying how great the school was, how there were so many people, and how kind the teachers were. But he just couldn't understand anything and had forgotten all the words he had learned. Of course, he didn't say this.

After dinner, the family chatted in the daylight, while the men went to visit neighbors early.

As the women were chatting, the topic turned to reading, and each of them asked their children to show what they had learned.

Sun Lannie is the referee. She is in fifth grade this year and is about to graduate. If she can pass the entrance exam to junior high school, she will continue her studies.

Sun Wen from the eldest son's family was the first to go on stage. He was in the third grade. He scratched his head and said, "Today the teacher taught us an ancient poem."

He coughed in a fake manner, stretched out his hand, and said with full confidence, "I can't remember."

Suddenly, everyone burst into laughter, and Sun Ye also pursed his lips.

Aunt Sun Si said, "Xiao Wen, you've made a good start, hahaha."

"Ahem, who's next?"

"I."

Sun Jiang from the second house took the initiative to step forward, full of confidence, and he was definitely better than Sun Wen.

"I also learned an ancient poem today: 'An old friend bids farewell to the Yellow Crane Tower, descending to Yangzhou in smoke... fireworks...'"

The words in the middle were unclear, but he still looked proud. He remembered one sentence: "It's good as long as I'm not at the bottom."

The adults all looked at Lanni, after all, she was the only one who understood. Lanni said, "Jiang Zi got the first sentence right, but missed the second one."

"Okay, next."

Sun Sen's face flushed with embarrassment. He hadn't really listened in class and played around after class, forgetting everything the teacher had said.

"Our teacher taught us how to write today."

"What is it? Write it down and see."

Sun Sen closed his eyes and wrote the character "人" (person) which he knew.

In fact, the teacher did teach us how to write today, but he only taught us how to write the words "1, 2, 3".

"good."

There was a burst of applause.

"My grandchildren are all very smart. Grandma will reward each of you with a piece of dried sweet potato. Here, take it."

It's just that his cleverness is not in the right place. Sun Ye complained silently.

Several children took the dried sweet potatoes from Grandma Sun, put them in their mouths and chewed them carefully. They tasted sweet.

Sun Lin tugged at his mother's sleeve and muttered, "I want to eat too."

Old Lady Sun heard this and said with a smile, "We have them all, we have them all. Take them. You guys have been looking for food for the chickens today, so this is a reward for you."

Several children, including Lanny, had dried sweet potatoes.
