Chapter 5: Shelling Corn

"Hehe~"

The big rooster in the pigpen held its head high and chest out, its voice loud and clear, and then the crowing sounds spread from one end to the other in the team.

The Sun family raised three chickens, one male and two females. Although they were only allowed to raise two, the law was based on human nature. The team was full of fellow villagers, and no one would report them if there was one extra chicken.

Sun Ye took a deep breath, suppressing the anger of being woken up. He flexibly rolled over and sat up with his small body, waking up with a wooden face.

Eight-month-old Sun Ye can now walk unsteadily by holding on to the wall. It is October, the golden autumn and harvest season.

Not long after Sun Ye woke up, the brigade's gong began to clang, and he could vaguely hear the sound of the yard door closing.

It’s time to go to work again!

I'm so tired!

They are busy every day, sowing, weeding, raising seedlings, and fertilizing. It is not possible to rest after planting. If you want to have a good crop, a series of subsequent work is inevitable.

Today, Sun's mother was peeling corn. The corn stalks were so tall that she had to wriggle through them to peel them. The corn stalks were so sticky that she didn't take Sun Ye with her.

Sun Ye's butt was facing outwards, and she stretched her little feet under the bed little by little. When they reached the ground, she held onto the edge of the bed and walked step by step.

Her legs are so uncomfortable. If it weren't for the pain in her knees from crawling, she would have left the house long ago, Sun Ye thought.

Finally, she moved tremblingly to the door and found a place to support herself. She looked back at the distance she had walked and felt a sense of accomplishment in her heart. She was worthy of being her.

He pushed the door open gently, but as if he used too much force, the door suddenly creaked open. Sun Ye couldn't control his strength and fell straight to the ground.

Sun Ye was stunned. She had always known that she was very strong. Although she couldn't crush wood with her bare hands, she could still crack it.

This is also one of her characteristics. Other elves are light and agile, but she is the only one who has the talent of infinite strength. Unexpectedly, she is still like this after becoming a human cub.

She was usually very careful and reserved, never revealing any clues, but this door actually made her fall into the trap.

Sun Ye supported himself on the ground with his hands, stood up with a grin, and kept gasping for breath. It was hot and he was wearing little. Fortunately, the mud was flat, otherwise he would have been injured.

Later, Sun Lin got out of bed when he heard the sound of the door opening. He saw his little sister fall down with his own eyes, and when he wanted to help her, he suddenly remembered what his mother said: If you fall down, stand up by yourself.

Sun Ye spread his arms like a little duck to keep his balance and walked forward step by step. Although he stumbled, he didn't fall.

Sun Lin, who was standing behind, couldn't help but step forward and put his small hands lightly on both sides of Sun Ye, protecting him tightly, with a serious face like a little old man.

Sun Ye looked ahead, his short legs moving non-stop. It felt good to be able to move on his own.

With the corners of her mouth slightly raised, her delicate little face became even more dazzling. No wonder all the kids in the family like to be close to her.

The third daughter’s family is really good at giving birth. She has lived to such an old age but has never seen such a beautiful baby, thought Old Lady Sun.

"Ye Zi, come here, come to grandma!"

Old Mrs. Sun set off very late. Today she was assigned to shell corn kernels, but the corn has not been picked yet.

When Sun Ye heard the sound, he stopped, looked up at his grandmother at the kitchen door, and then walked over with a grunt.

Old Mrs. Sun squatted slightly, opened her hands, and said encouragingly from time to time: "Ye Zi is great, Ye Zi is really amazing!"

Sun Ye said nothing, but her heart was filled with motivation. No matter how well she did before, it seemed like it was her due, and she never received any praise. But now, with just a small action...

The Sun family is a little poor, but they are really good, and she likes the Sun family very much.

Sun Ye fell into the arms of old lady Sun, and hugged her neck tightly, burying his face in her shoulders. Old lady Sun exuded a kind and gentle aura.

This aura is different from that of Sun's mother, and she is very happy!

Old Lady Sun picked up Sun Ye and said to Sun Lin, "Linzi, go wake up Xiao He and Xiao Wu. How could they sleep so much?"

Sun Lin was too embarrassed to say that he was woken up by his sister, otherwise he would have been sleeping in bed as well.

Old Mrs. Sun went to the fourth room again, where Sun Miao was sitting on the bed rubbing his eyes. His little mouth was pouting and tears were rolling in his eye sockets.

When she heard the door open, she blinked her big eyes and looked over. They were wet and red, which made people feel distressed.

Seeing that it wasn't Fourth Aunt Sun, he opened his mouth and was about to cry out. Sun Ye saw this and immediately cried out loudly, "Ah!" If Sun Miao was allowed to cry, he wouldn't stop for half an hour. The Sun family was very afraid of Sun Miao's crying skills, and they turned pale when they heard about it. Only Sun Ye could stop him.

When Sun Miao heard Sun Ye's voice, he swallowed back his tears and also let out an "Ah".

Old Mrs. Sun and Sun Ye both breathed a sigh of relief. Old Mrs. Sun quickly carried Sun Ye to Sun Miao, fearing that he would really cry.

Sun Miao climbed onto Sun Ye's legs, hugged Sun Ye, and showed his three-petaled teeth.

Sun Ye, the human-shaped pillow, rolled his eyes and let Sun Miao do what he wanted.

She is quite popular among children, and so are other children. Sun Ye feels very happy about this, but he still looks bitter and resentful on his face.

After eating the sweet potato porridge, Old Lady Sun carried one on her back, held one in front of her, and had two following behind her.

The person on her back was Sun Miao. She was too active and Grandma Sun was afraid she couldn't hold her.

Sun Lin was swinging his little hat because he was afraid that Sun Ye and the others would be exposed to the sun.

The dam on the team's site is very large. It was deliberately made larger when it was first built to make it convenient for drying grain.

There were trees planted nearby. When Old Lady Sun walked under the trees, she saw many people chatting and gossiping. This job was much easier than working in the fields, and they were all older women.

Everyone had one or two children around them. As soon as Sun Lin arrived, he ran happily towards his friends. Sun Wu put down his small stool and joined in.

"Go ahead, go play with your brothers too. Xiao Wu, keep an eye on your little brother!"

"Got it, grandma!"

Old Mrs. Sun put Sun Ye down and made him stand. She then took out an old cloth and spread it on the ground, putting it together with the other children's dolls. Then she put Sun Miao down.

All Sun Ye saw were naked butts. She also wore open-crotch pants, but under her strong resistance, her mother Sun sewed her pants up.

Old Mrs. Sun wanted to show off that Sun Ye could walk, so she spread the cloth some distance away from Sun Ye. Sun Ye was helpless, but also happy and satisfied.

Sun Ye tried hard not to shake, and took firm and steady steps. Although slow, he was quite steady.

Finally they arrived. Sun Ye secretly breathed a sigh of relief. She was afraid that the car would overturn. The high priest actually fell on the ground while walking. She still had some dignity to save.

"Is this Xuejun's? Can he walk?"

"How did you teach this kid? My grandson only crawls when he's like this."

"These two kids have become more beautiful after not seeing them for a while. They are so lucky."

The noisy questions from all around drowned out Old Lady Sun. She raised her head proudly and began to be humble in front of everyone.

"Yes, from Xuejun's family."

"This kid can walk, but he's not very agile."

"Is she beautiful? Not really, just average. Maybe I'm just used to it."

This wave of dark beauty!

It would have been fine if these aunties had just talked, they also took action. Sun Ye was held by an old auntie and tossed up.

Sun Ye knows the answer to this question. It’s time to scream again.

So I followed my inner thoughts and laughed out loud.

Sun Miao was also held by another aunt and was very happy.

The lady holding Sun Ye tossed him a few times, then held him in her arms, saying, "This little guy isn't afraid of strangers, so let him hold you. How generous of you."

"Xiao Ye Zi, I'm your aunt. Come, call me aunt, and I'll give you some dried sweet potatoes."

Sun Ye didn't say anything, but when Sun Miao saw the sweet potato fries, he called out "Grandma" clearly.

The crowd burst into laughter, saying that it was the aunt who handed the sweet potato fries to Sun Miao, who stretched out his little hand. Sun Miao took the sweet potato fries and tore them apart with great effort, then handed half of it over.

"Is this for my aunt?" The aunt stretched out her hand and pretended to take it, then saw whether Sun Miao was willing.

However, Sun Miao dodged his aunt's hand and headed straight for Sun Ye, making a sound like "ah ah ah", as if asking Sun Ye to continue.

Sun Ye took it, and then Sun Miao put the sweet potato chips in his mouth and ground them.

"It's unbelievable! Why is Old Sun's kid so beloved?"

So Sun Miao is such a cute little cub, no wonder I usually spoil her. Sun Ye finally understood the pride that Old Lady Sun had in her. This was exactly what Sun Ye wanted, to blend in with the crowd and be well versed in the doctrine of the mean. Unexpectedly, she immediately broke down.

The smile on Old Lady Sun's lips never faded.

Soon, the first cart of corn was delivered. It was orange-yellow in color and full. It was dumped on the dam, and the people pulling the cart went to load corn again.

There was a circle of little kids surrounding Sun Ye, all of them vying to sit next to her. It was hot with so many people around, and Sun Ye was sweating all over.

The older ladies were afraid that the children would make trouble, so they gave them five or six corn cobs to play with.

Sun Ye sat upright, holding the corn in her hands, peeling it one by one. Old Lady Sun and the others rubbed two corn cobs together, but her hands were too small to hold them all and rub them together.

The group of boys stopped playing and went back to their respective positions to peel corn. The centimeters were calculated based on how many they peeled. The more they peeled, the more centimeters they got.

She thought it was quite easy and it would fall off with a slight pull, so she sped up and in a short while, a whole corn was peeled.

She took another stick to peel, and gave the peeled stick to the little kids surrounding her to play with. For some reason, the kids didn't disturb her and just crawled around beside her. Sun Miao was among them.

One by one, she peeled all six corns in a quarter of an hour, and a small pile of corn kernels piled up in front of her. Her brother Sun Lin then peeled the fourth one. Don't forget, Sun Lin is four years old and Sun Ye is only eight months old.

Sun Ye didn't pay attention and continued to peel the corn with his body tilted. Old Mrs. Sun didn't take it seriously and thought Sun Ye was just playing with it.

Sun Wu was tired of peeling leaves and was about to get some water when he saw Sun Ye's achievements. He tugged at Old Lady Sun's sleeve and whispered, "Grandma, look how many leaves you've peeled."

Grandma Sun looked up and was surprised to see that her little granddaughter was peeling corn with great enthusiasm, and the corn kernels were falling down on her hands.

He quickly glanced around and saw that everyone was working hard and no one noticed him. He stood up and pretended to get water for Sun Wu, turning his back to everyone to block their view.

Old Lady Sun touched Sun Ye's head and whispered, "Ye Zi, let's not peel it anymore. It would be great if you and Miaoer could climb and play together. Peeling this stuff will tire your hands."
