Chapter 20: Beautiful Stepmother vs. Stepson's Two-Way Redemption (20)

Huo Ye's brow twitched, but he remained stubborn.

“What could possibly happen? We were family for a short period of time, after all. I only showed her the concern that was due, nothing more.”

"Really? But I heard that guy surnamed Song is pursuing my stepmother. Do you think we might end up with another stepfather?"

"That's not right either. She's not really related to us. At most, it's just a normal relationship. At worst, we'll give her a wedding gift when they get married."

Huo Ye suddenly slammed his fist on the sofa, his face cold.

"Stop talking!"

The thought of Yun Lian getting married fills my heart with a dense, aching pain.

Huo Ye was breathing heavily, his face grim as he hurried toward the company.

"Assistant Han, I need all the information about Yun Lian in ten minutes."

Assistant Han was speechless.

Didn't the president not care at all before?

"Yes, Mr. Huo."

Assistant Han was quick; in no time, he handed him the documents that had been prepared before but which the president had not yet reviewed.

Huo Ye was in a state of agitation, which caused him to flip through the pages very quickly, and he soon learned about Yun Lian's general experiences.

She was half deceived when she married into the Huo family, and the other half was for the sake of her sick mother and younger brother's tuition fees.

But I don't recall ever seeing her family.

The more Huo Ye looked at Yun Lian's past, the more disconnected he felt. In the past, she was blindly filial and selfless, but now she couldn't stand being insulted. If she was criticized a few times, she would leave without hesitation.

Huo Ye was pinching the bridge of his nose when suddenly there was a knock on the door.

"Enter."

The original female lead, Shen Rou, entered wearing a professional short skirt and carrying documents. Her shirt was so tight that it almost popped open, revealing lace trim and her bare skin from the side.

"Mr. Huo, these are documents that need to be signed as soon as possible. There is a charity dinner to attend this afternoon."

Ever since we met at the hospital, Shen Rou has been clinging to me. But since she has a connection with Old Master Shen, I can't drive her away.

"These matters can be left to Assistant Han."

Shen Rou placed the documents on the table, leaned over and looked at Huo Ye, her curly hair hanging down on the table.

"Huo Ye, what do you think of the marriage agreement my grandfather mentioned? Do you want to marry me or not? I think you should be very clear about the benefits that would come if the Shen and Huo families joined forces."

Huo Ye turned his face away from Shen Rou's chest.

"I will find time to talk to Mr. Shen about the engagement. There are three brothers in the Huo family, but I am against marriage, so I apologize, Miss Shen."

Shen Rou wiped away her tears, as if she had been insulted: "Huo Ye, what do you take me for? I want to marry you, not the Huo family."

If it weren't for the kindness he had shown her, she wouldn't have been willing to hastily marry someone.

Perhaps because her eyes held a clear accusation, Huo Ye seemed to understand what she was thinking.

“Ms. Shen, I’m sorry if the hospital matter has caused you any trouble, but anyone in that situation would have helped.”

"Miss Shen deserves someone better; she doesn't need to offer herself to him."

flower shop

Yun Lian changed the storefront sign to her liking.

The original owner had excellent taste, so the interior hardly needed any renovation.

Yun Lian really liked the flower shop she had taken over. It was always filled with the fragrance of flowers, and sitting there all day would improve her mood considerably.

In a daze, Yun Lian felt as if she had returned to the Yun Kingdom. Her mother was worried that she had killed too many people while accompanying the army on expeditions, so every time she returned, she was forced to arrange flowers, with the aim of making her cultivate her character.

However, her temperament did not improve; instead, she became an excellent flower arranger, which did not conflict with her ability to wield a sword and behead enemies.

When Song Zhu arrived, Yun Lian was pruning the flower branches.

The sound of the wind chimes finally drew Yun Lian's attention.

"Officer Song, what brings you here? Come quickly, I just finished wrapping up a bouquet of Autumn Whispers, it's perfect to give it to you."

Song Zhu handed the milk tea to Yun Lian, picked up the scissors, sat in her seat, and imitated cutting by measuring the length.

"Don't waste it, I can't find anyone to deliver it. I've been single for 24 years, if someone were to deliver flowers, I would have been married long ago. Come and try it, the newly opened milk tea bar, there are a lot of young girls queuing up, I guess you'll like it too."

Yun Lian took it, and after just one sip, her eyes widened in bliss.

"It's so delicious! Officer Song, you have such good taste! How do you make mochi with yogurt that tastes so good?"

Song Zhu picked up the green leaf from Yun Lian's head: "You might have to ask the boss about this yourself."

"By the way, Mr. Yun, how long do you close tonight? If you don't treat me to dinner soon, I'm starving."

Yun Lian pointed at the flower branches he was pruning, grinning happily.

"Business is booming today, we're almost out of stock. Once we've cut up this cappuccino and put it in a bottle, we can call it a day. Officer Song, please wait a little longer. This time, I'll treat you to a big meal!"

Song Zhu was quick and efficient. Seeing that Yun Lian wanted to put down her milk tea and cut the flower branches together, she quickly stopped her.

"Mr. Yun, please relax and enjoy your tea. I've learned from you so many times. I can come and work part-time whenever I have free time. Mr. Yun, please feel free to be a hands-off boss today."

When Huo Ye arrived, this was the harmonious scene he witnessed.

Yun Lian lay relaxed in the chair, holding a cheap milk tea in her hand, but she was smiling more happily than when she ate expensive dishes at the Huo family's house.

Song Zhu squatted down to help her with the work, and the two chatted and laughed, just like a couple deeply in love.

Huo Ye almost crushed the handle of the umbrella in his hand. He turned around and walked straight to the bar, drinking one glass after another.

When Huo Yuan arrived, his face was flushed, his hair was hanging down in strands, his shirt collar was wide open, and his skin was covered with red.

Huo Yuan snatched the wine from his hand and smashed it on the ground.

"Huo Ye, wake up! What on earth could make you skip the charity gala and come here to drown your sorrows?"

Huo Ye's vision was blurry, but when he recognized the person in front of him as Huo Yuanshi, he lowered his guard.

"Huo Yuan, what exactly is love?"

He had never been properly loved, nor did he know how to love. He only learned the old man's ruthless methods and knew that if he wanted someone, he had to keep her firmly by his side.

People teach him how to do business, hold political views, study, and manage, but why doesn't anyone tell him how to love someone?

Huo Yuan pondered for a long time but couldn't come up with an answer, so he simply searched it on Baidu.

The drunkard couldn't distinguish between truth and falsehood; he only wanted to follow one thought forward, regardless of right or wrong.

"Love is about finding the one who can overcome the other; love is about willingly surrendering; love is about having endless thoughts and words to share; love is about mutual understanding and tolerance; love is about being willing; love is about responding to everything; love is about remembering everything you say."

Huo Ye murmured, "Everything has its counter... Huo Yuan, I think I've fallen in love with Yun Lian."

Huo Yuan suddenly raised his wine glass and splashed wine in Huo Ye's face.

"Retreat! Retreat! Retreat!"

"Where did this love-struck brother come from? Give me back my brother!"

Huo Ye almost threw up from being shaken.

Despite being splashed with wine and shaken, Huo Ye's eyes regained a glimmer of clarity.

"Huo Yuan, you're disgusting... Let go of me."

Huo Yuan, still shaken, patted his chest.

"Brother, you're not possessed by a ghost, are you? So—you really like Yun Lian! What's so great about liking a gold digger like her?"

Huo Ye clutched his chest, his expression pained: "Seeing her is annoying, not seeing her is also annoying. She's on my mind when I'm working, and she's everywhere when I'm resting."

Huo Yuan: "..."

Why does that sound so much like being possessed by a ghost?
