Chapter 35 No Divorce, Okay? Time...

Chapter 35 No Divorce, Okay? Time...

Time flies like an arrow; in the blink of an eye, the year is drawing to a close.

Night had fallen, and Yan Yize stood alone by the window. The flickering candlelight outlined her slender figure. She stood with her hands behind her back, gazing up at the night sky, letting the cold wind blow over her.

The pitch-black night usually holds little to offer, but tonight is different. Brilliant fireworks explode in the darkness, illuminating a patch of darkness like a flower in full bloom—brief but beautiful.

A cold wind blew by, making the already flickering candlelight sway even more violently. Yan Yize had his back to the candlelight, and the flickering candlelight cast shadows on his face, making it difficult to see clearly.

Finally, the wind stopped.

The light from the leak detector illuminated her beautifully curved profile, as well as her expressionless face, completely detached from the situation. Even the grandest fireworks could not stir her heart.

Having grown bored, Yan Yize turned around and calmly closed the window, shutting it shut completely, shutting out the fireworks that lit up the night sky and leaving only a cold, desolate room.

Yan Yize picked up her brush, flicked her wrist, and several large, elegant characters appeared on the paper. Her gaze swept over them, and she frowned in displeasure. She put down the brush, picked up the paper with her fingers, glanced at it briefly, and then crumpled it into a ball.

Yan Yize picked up his brush again, but hesitated to put it down. Because it lingered in the air for too long, a drop of ink fell from the tip of the brush, splashing out and immediately staining the clean Xuanzhou with a dark blob.

The jet-black ink stains only fell on the paper, but they disturbed Yan Yize's mind. She immediately lost the will to continue writing, and the hand that was holding the brush moved slightly, so she casually put the priceless purple brush on the inkstone.

After staring blankly for a moment, Yan Yize closed her eyes, raised her hand to rub her temples, but the irritability showed no signs of abating. Instead, it intensified, making her feel indescribably uncomfortable from the inside out.

Yan Yize lowered her eyes, her gaze filled with confusion. She was alone in the study, which was very quiet, so quiet that her steady breathing could be heard. In such an environment, she should have been affected and felt at peace, but the opposite was true; her mind was in turmoil.

Completely unable to calm down, even the things that usually concern her most have lost their effect. Yan Yize leaned listlessly in her chair, her chaotic state of mind the most accurate reflection of her mood at this moment.

Time ticked by, and Yan Yize, who had been sitting motionless for a long time, finally moved. She slowly got up and walked slowly towards the door. Her fingers touched the door, and with a little force, the door opened.

A cold wind swept over her, carrying a hint of moisture. The sudden temperature difference caused goosebumps to rise on her exposed skin.

Yan Yize looked closely and realized that it was raining.

The rain wasn't heavy; it was like dew scattered by the wind, fine as silk threads, but it was extremely cold when it touched the skin, like ice that had never melted for a thousand years, chilling to the touch.

There was no sound of rain, which is why Yan Yize did not notice that a light rain had started to fall.

Feeling down, Yan Yize had originally planned to go out for a walk to clear her head. Even though she knew it was raining, her mind didn't change. What troubled her was whether to bring an umbrella. The rain was light but cold, and the pattering chill was enough to annoy anyone.

After some deliberation, she gave up the idea of using an umbrella, figuring she would be back soon and it wouldn't take too long, so there was no need for one.

Yan Yize walked into the night. She walked casually, lost in thought the whole way, completely unaware of where she was.

Until a courtyard came into view.

Lost in thought, she was struck dumb as if by lightning. She looked around blankly, a wave of regret washing over her. How had she ended up here without even realizing it?

Since that day they parted, she and Shang Xu had not seen each other for more than ten days; more accurately, she was avoiding him.

After Shang Xu left that day, he came back later, but she hadn't figured out how to resolve the issues between them, so she could only avoid him.

Shang Xu probably realized that she was avoiding him, so he stopped coming to her door.

More than ten days have passed, and Yan Yize still has no answer. He is still like a lost ant, not knowing how to deal with that impulsive decision to "divorce".

Does she really want to divorce Shang Xu?

Since their marriage, Shang Xu has not made any mistakes, and he possesses a magical power that brings a unique sense of peace when you are with him.

If they divorced, he might never see him again. As soon as the thought came to mind, Yan Yize frowned and felt inexplicably resistant.

Lost in thought for an unknown amount of time, a cool raindrop fell on her face, the bone-chilling cold instantly bringing her back to her senses. Yan Yize raised her eyes, staring intently at the courtyard before her, an idea forming in her mind.

Just then, the tightly closed window loosened, and time seemed to stand still. Yan Yize stared intently as the window was suddenly pushed open. First, a pair of slender hands appeared by the window, followed by a very familiar face.

Perhaps it was because her gaze was too direct, Shang Xu, who was standing by the window, sensed it and subconsciously turned his head to look in the direction she was standing.

Shang Xu hesitated at first, seemingly unable to believe that the person who appeared here was her. After all, she had always been the one avoiding him. After a long period of observation, he confirmed that the person who came was indeed her. The hesitation in his eyes faded and was replaced by surprise.

Seeing that he had been discovered, Yan Yize did not restrain his blunt gaze; instead, he became even more unrestrained.

At this moment, the fog that had been shrouding his heart dissipated, and the confusion that had existed for so long found its direction. Perhaps it was out of habit, or perhaps it was out of reluctance to part with the unique tranquility he possessed, but at this moment, the only thing Yan Yize was certain of was that he did not want to divorce Shang Xu.

If she absolutely had to have one person by her side, she would want it to be Shang Xu.

Yan Yize strode towards the courtyard. She took large, quick steps and reached the door in just a few breaths. She raised her hand, her heart skipped a beat, and she became inexplicably nervous.

She raised her hand and pressed it against her heart, then gently placed her raised knuckles on the door, making a rhythmic knocking sound.

"Knock—knock knock—"

At the same time, Shang Xu, who had been lost in thought, was jolted awake. His dimmed eyes lit up again; he thought she had left.

It wasn't there originally.

He stepped forward, and with a creak, the door between the two was opened. With the barrier removed, the two naturally looked at each other.

Neither of them moved, just staring at each other. Shang Xu was the first to come to his senses, his fingers tightening on the door. He then lowered his head, his voice low and somber, "Why is Your Highness here so late?"

Is something the matter?

Shang Xu immediately thought of the divorce, and a look of sadness crossed his eyes. Coming here so late at night, this was the only thing he could think of.

Yan Yize turned her head and glanced at the fine drizzle. The raindrops seemed to be getting bigger, and she thought that the rain was about to get heavier.

She looked away, paused for a moment, and said, "It's raining."

"Let's go inside and talk."

Shang Xu glanced outside, said nothing, but stepped aside to make way for her.

Yan Yize walked into the house, and Shang Xu followed behind her without saying a word. When she walked, he walked; when she stopped, he stopped; when she turned around, he took a step back.

Yan Yize looked at him, hesitated for a moment, and asked bluntly, "Do you want a divorce?"

Shang Xu was stunned by these sudden words, but only for a moment before he quickly composed himself. He lowered his eyes, deliberately avoiding looking at the expression on her face.

Shang Xu pursed her lips, feeling wronged. She was the one who wanted a divorce, and she had been the one reminding him, yet now the problem was being thrown at him.

This is not fair to him at all.

After asking the question, Yan Yize stared intently at his face, afraid of missing any expression. His reaction relieved her, and her heart, which had been hanging in suspense, finally settled down. Fortunately, he didn't want to do it either.

"Shang Xu," she suddenly called out to him very seriously.

"Let's not get a divorce, okay?"

Shang Xu suddenly raised his head, his eyes filled with shock and disbelief, completely unable to believe this sudden surprise.

Yan Yize looked at him intently, without urging or showing any dissatisfaction, waiting quietly for his answer.

After a long while, Shang Xu finally came to his senses. His face was calm, as if nothing had happened, but little did anyone know that his hands, hidden behind his back, were trembling with excitement.

Shang Xu never wanted a divorce, so he naturally wouldn't give up the opportunity right in front of him. He suppressed his excitement and nodded vigorously, "Okay."

The boulder that had been pressing down on Yan Yize completely disappeared, and she felt a sense of lightness. Only then did she realize that she was covered in sweat.

"Shang Xu." Yan Yize looked at him awkwardly, pursed his lips, and tried to ignore his discomfort. "I have something else to say to you."

Shang Xu was still immersed in the good news from earlier. He really wanted to jump onto the bed and roll around, but because she was there, he could only suppress his joy and pretend to be nonchalant.

He asked calmly, "What is it?"

Yan Yize remained silent for a moment, then slowly spoke under his questioning gaze, "I wronged you about what happened last time."

"sorry."

After speaking out, Yan Yize felt much more at ease. Looking at him, her eyes were filled with guilt and self-reproach. She repeated, "I'm sorry, can you forgive me?"

Shang Xu was stunned, a thousand complex emotions intertwined, leaving him at a loss. He had suffered a lot of hurt since childhood, but this was the first time he had received an apology.

A small water droplet falls into a calm lake of the heart, creating ripples that eventually merge with it.

His prolonged silence led Yan Yize to mistakenly believe that he was not forgiving him, causing him a moment of disappointment. However, he quickly regained his composure, realizing that the choice was in his hands and that he had the right not to forgive.

What she had to do was to do everything in her power to gain his forgiveness.

"It's okay if you don't forgive me, after all, I was in the wrong first, next time I..." Before she could finish speaking, a hand touched her wrist. The cool touch made her mind go blank, and she completely forgot what she was going to say.

Shang Xu withdrew his hand, smiled at her, and said, "Let bygones be bygones."

The touch on her wrist was brief, but Yan Yize remained in a daze for a long time. The slightly cool touch seemed to have landed on her heart, making her uneasy.
