Chapter 15 Invitation Supplement...
After taking a nap, Shang Xu woke up at dusk. He sat on the bed, his eyes filled with the bewilderment of just waking up. He was lost in thought with his head down. The collar of his white undershirt was slightly disheveled, revealing a glimpse of his collarbone, which was snow-white and flawless, reminiscent of pear blossoms covered in dew.
"Young master, would you like to get up and have your meal?"
He turned his head and saw Qingzhu talking to him. He was stunned for a moment, then felt the hunger in his stomach and remembered that he hadn't eaten since he came back. He nodded slowly, his voice hoarse from waking up, "Okay."
Before long, he emerged from behind the screen, limping. Qingzhu followed closely behind him, occasionally reaching out to help him, but he refused. Thinking that no one else would come, he decided to try it himself.
Walking like this was tiring. After only a few steps, he was panting heavily. He stopped, holding onto the wooden frame beside him, intending to catch his breath before continuing. But unexpectedly, a pair of exquisite boots caught his eye. Shang Xu looked up sharply and saw Yan Yize standing quietly not far away.
Shang Xu froze. When did she arrive? How long had she been standing there? How long had she been watching his disgraceful state? Overwhelmed by intense shame, his face flushed, and a blush spread rapidly like water-absorbing paper.
Her arrival was unexpected for Shang Xu. The two had been married for over a month, but apart from their wedding night, she had never set foot in this place again. He rarely even saw her on ordinary days, but now she suddenly appeared. He forgot how to react, even though he had seen her just that morning.
Yan Yize raised an eyebrow and slowly walked towards him. She usually ate alone, and today was no exception. But at the last moment, she couldn't help but think of him. Her husband was injured, and as his wife, it was really inexcusable for her not to go and see him. If she didn't know, that would be one thing, but she was the one who brought him back. So, she ended up here.
Unexpectedly, he witnessed such a comical scene, and a hint of a smile appeared in Yan Yize's usually indifferent eyes.
She stood before him, her eyes scanning him up and down with interest, and said meaningfully, "It seems that you are much better, sir."
Shang Xu's eyes darted away, and she lowered her head in embarrassment. Her face was hot and red, and she wished she could hide away again. Why did she have to see such an embarrassing thing again?
He swallowed, trying to ignore the turmoil in his heart, and looked at her casually as if nothing had happened, "Why has Your Highness come?"
Yan Yize's gaze remained fixed on his face. His skin was fair and delicate, and the faint blush on his face was so eye-catching, like the setting sun on the horizon. Yet, the person in question was unaware of this, feigning composure, which only added to his allure.
The man in front of her avoided her gaze, but she made no attempt to back away, continuing to stare at him blatantly. She said, "I came to see you."
"Thank you for your concern, Your Highness."
"Hmm." Yan Yize responded softly, regretfully shifting his gaze, and continued to ask, "Is the meal ready?"
Upon hearing this, Shang Xu's heart tightened, pounding nervously. He lowered his eyes and thought for a moment, but couldn't figure out what kind of answer she wanted, so he could only tell the truth, "Not yet."
"Not yet either."
A very soft sentence drifted into Shang Xu's ears, making him unable to help but look at her. He understood the meaning of her words, but why?
She had criticized him in the early hours of this morning, and he thought she was annoyed with him. Why was she now willing to dine with him? Shang Xu couldn't figure it out, so he simply stopped thinking about it. After all, it was a good thing for him.
"Your Highness, would you mind staying for a meal?"
His palms were sweaty and sticky, which was very uncomfortable. He thought of the last time he was invited and was rejected. A sense of disappointment overwhelmed him, and his heart felt heavy. He looked at her nervously, afraid that he might misunderstand her again.
Fortunately, this time it didn't happen.
Under his anxious gaze, Yan Yize slowly nodded, his clear voice falling, "Since you invited me, I will naturally not refuse."
Lies! She clearly rejected him last time, but Shang Xu still couldn't help but feel overjoyed. This was the first time he had dined with her since entering the manor. Did that mean she didn't dislike him as much anymore?
So, is it permissible for him to have even the slightest delusion?
He looked at Qingzhu, "Qingzhu, prepare the meal."
"yes."
After Qingzhu left, only the two of them remained in the room. Shang Xu then remembered something important. He was still standing there and froze. How should he go over?
Shang Xu frowned, troubled. With her there, he definitely couldn't go over there limping anymore. He racked his brains but couldn't find a solution. He subconsciously looked up and saw her looking at him calmly, as if she had expected it.
Seeing him look at him, a smile flickered in Yan Yize's eyes. "Lord, do you need my help?"
How could he help? Shang Xu couldn't help but recall the image of her holding him, but then he shook his head decisively, "No need."
"Does Your Excellency intend to stand here and watch me eat?"
Shang Xu shook his head, stammering, "No."
He only planned to stand there until Qingzhu returned, and then let Qingzhu help him up.
Yan Yize chuckled softly, her cool and aloof features vividly portrayed, making her already beautiful features even more captivating, as if a ray of spring sunshine had fallen, illuminating Shang Xu's heart.
She approached, her smiling eyes glancing at him, and said in an unyielding tone, "Since it's not, then let me help Zhengjun."
Before the last word could be uttered, she suddenly moved closer, placing a hand on his waist. The warmth of her palm seeped through the thin fabric and onto his skin, a burning heat spreading from where they touched, a tingling, itchy sensation sending a shiver through his heart.
When Shang Xu realized what was happening, he was already in her arms, his arms wrapped around her neck without him even noticing. Perhaps knowing that struggling was useless, he stiffly said thank you and sat uneasily in her arms.
Shy, he lowered his eyes, his face flushed. Shang Xu wanted to hide himself, but due to the rules he had been taught, he not only couldn't, but also had to pretend that nothing was wrong.
Yan Yize lowered her eyes, multitasking as she scrutinized him. Her gaze involuntarily fell on his crimson earlobe, and she realized that he was like this because of her. This discovery made her even happier.
