Chapter 14 I owe her too much...
Yan Yize had only intended to carry him off the carriage, but the person in her arms was so light that he felt weightless in her arms, which made her wonder if someone in the manor was mistreating him.
Lost in thought, she didn't realize that she had already carried him off the carriage and walked quite a distance. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw his quiet profile, his thick, curled eyelashes trembling as she walked. Oh well, he's not heavy, so she might as well go all the way.
The two carriages were not far apart, and Yan Yize arrived in just a few steps. Hui Xue, being very perceptive, stepped forward and pulled back the curtain. Her carriage was much larger than his, and there was enough space inside for her to carry him in.
Yan Yize held him, her upper body slightly lowered, her movements cautious to avoid accidentally bumping or touching him. She strode to the cushioned seat, stopped, lowered her head, her dark eyes fixed on the top of his black hair, pursed her dry lips, and gently reminded him, "Be careful."
Shang Xu immediately breathed a sigh of relief, nodded stiffly, and softly replied, "Okay."
She walked very fast on the short distance, but Shang Xu felt that time was so long. If he continued like this, his stiff and aching body would almost lose all feeling. Fortunately, they arrived at their destination.
Yan Yize bent down, his arms moving gently to place the person steadily on the seat. Then he straightened up, took two steps back, and sat down beside him, his gaze seemingly casually observing him.
Shang Xu unconsciously straightened his back, sat upright, lowered his eyes, and placed his hands in front of him. After a moment of thought, he raised his head, looked at her with clear eyes, and said sincerely, "Thank you for tonight, Your Highness."
"Hmm." Yan Yize responded softly, withdrew his gaze, straightened his clothes, leaned back casually, and closed his eyes to pretend to sleep.
Shang Xu became uneasy again because of her simple word. He would glance at her from time to time, purse his lips, and think to himself, but what had he done wrong?
After a night of travel, when the carriage returned to the city gate, the sky was already faintly turning white, indicating that dawn would soon break.
Perhaps because she recognized Yan Yize's carriage, or perhaps because it was time, the heavy city gate slowly opened before she could even show her jade token.
——
Shang Xu was troubled and lost in thought the whole way. He didn't even notice when the carriage stopped. He was so engrossed in his thoughts that he didn't realize there was someone else beside him.
Yan Yize remained silent, simply watching him quietly. She knew he was handsome from the first glance, and had looked at him many times before, but never with such seriousness.
She was lost in thought, but there was a faint sadness hidden in her eyes, like the mist after the rain, so light and faint that she would have missed it if she hadn't looked closely.
It felt as if a fallen leaf had gently brushed across his heart, creating ripples. Ignoring the strange feeling in his heart, Yan Yize remained silent for a long time, choosing not to speak, as it was neither appropriate nor proper.
Her gaze continued downwards, past his high, straight nose, and stopped at his beautiful lips. His lips were perfectly shaped, thin and rosy, like a blooming, delicate flower, making one want to lean down and get closer.
Yan Yize was startled by this idea and suddenly came to her senses. She frowned, her eyes filled with a deep confusion, as thick as the fog in the winter forest. She didn't understand why she would have such a thought.
To prevent things from going astray, she waved her hand in front of his eyes, choosing to interrupt him.
Shang Xu was lost in thought when a shadow suddenly appeared in front of him, startling him. He subconsciously looked up and met her eyes. He snapped back to reality and realized that the swaying of the carriage had stopped, so he knew they had arrived at the gate. He secretly glanced at Yan Yize, his heart pounding with uncertainty. He wondered how long His Highness had been waiting for him.
He seems to have done something wrong again.
After thinking for two seconds, he decided to apologize first, since he should lower his posture when he was living under someone else's roof.
Shang Xu timidly raised his eyes, swallowed nervously, and looked at her uneasily, "Your Highness, I'm sorry, I was daydreaming."
Yan Yize frowned unhappily. In just one night, he apologized three times. She couldn't help but wonder if he thought of her as some kind of vicious person.
She may not be a good person, but she's probably not vicious enough.
She pursed her lips, but ultimately didn't ask. Oh well, they were going to divorce anyway, so there was no need to ask. Let him think what he wants.
"Mmm." She responded casually, her gaze falling on his feet. She lowered her voice and asked, "Should I carry you down? Or should I call someone else?"
Shang Xu was terrified that she would hug him again. As soon as she finished speaking, he said impatiently, "No need to trouble Your Highness, just let Qingzhu do it."
Yan Yize nodded without objection. After all, she had seen his stiffness earlier, and besides, she might be a vicious person in his eyes, so it was normal for him to refuse.
"I'll go and have him come."
"Thank you, Your Highness."
Upon hearing this, Shang Xu relaxed. His Highness was of noble birth, and he couldn't bear the weight of that responsibility. More importantly, he didn't want to owe her anything.
When he stepped off the carriage, Yan Yize was nowhere to be seen. Shang Xu glanced at the empty doorway, but instead of feeling sad, he felt relieved. He already owed her enough tonight, and with her gone, he had time to think about how to repay her.
When Shang Xu returned to his residence, the royal physician was already waiting. He was stunned for a moment, but without thinking, he knew that she had sent the physician. After all, she was the mistress of this huge royal mansion, and only she had the ability to order the people in the mansion around at will.
He did not refuse her kindness. He was indeed injured, and naturally he wanted to recover as quickly as possible. However, he still couldn't help feeling melancholy. He owed her so much, and he had nothing left. How could he repay his debt?
