Chapter 13 He was so soft After a brief silence, Yan Yize stood up...

After a brief silence, Yan Yize stood up, took two steps outside, and with a slender hand, parted a corner of the curtain. She glanced casually at it; it was pitch black and there was nothing to see. Disappointed, she turned back and looked at him expressionlessly, as if asking a question or informing him, "Return to the manor?"

Shang Xu naturally had no objections. This place was cold and desolate, and there was nothing for him to miss. If he hadn't been trapped here, who would want to spend the night in the wilderness? Now that he had a better option, he wasn't stupid.

He nodded and replied without hesitation, "Okay."

Yan Yize withdrew her gaze, and with a flick of her hand, lifted a corner of the curtain, opening it wider. A cold wind kept pouring in, making the already chilly carriage even colder.

She bent down and stepped over the curtain, then let go, causing the curtain to fall down again, instantly covering the drafty carriage completely. The wind stopped getting in, but the chill did not dissipate.

Shang Xu lowered his head, his gaze falling on the tips of his shoes. A hint of difficulty flashed in his eyes. He had injured his foot and was now very inconvenient to move around, but Yan Yize was outside, and he didn't want to call Qingzhu.

After some hesitation, Shang Xu leaned against the car wall, enduring the pain, and slowly stood up. He tentatively took a step, but a piercing pain struck, instantly turning his face pale.

Shang Xu gritted his teeth, cold sweat pouring down his forehead, silently enduring the pain. Once he had almost gotten used to it, he took a deep breath and took the next step with a death-defying resolve.

The pain was unpleasant, but Shang Xu wanted to prove himself and show that he wasn't entirely useless.

People are so strange. Even though they accept their own weaknesses, they will desperately try to break free of their shackles at some point, even though they know it is meaningless.

After Yan Yize came out, she did not leave, but stood in place, seemingly waiting for him. After waiting for a while, she frowned slightly, wondering why he hadn't come out yet. Did he really want to spend the night here?

After waiting a few more breaths and seeing that he still hadn't come out, she couldn't help but feel suspicious. She hesitated whether to go in and take a look. After thinking for two seconds, she got back into the carriage, turned her wrist, and the curtain was parted like a cloud.

Yan Yize spotted him immediately. He was trembling and covered in sweat, leaning against the carriage wall, his body slightly bent. The most striking feature was his pale lips. Her heart tightened suddenly, as if gripped by an invisible hand. Without hesitation, she rushed to his side and supported him. Her furrowed brows resembled undulating waves as she asked urgently, "What's wrong?"

His dark eyes stared straight at him, exuding an invisible pressure that brooked no argument or refusal.

Upon seeing her, Shang Xu's already pale lips turned even paler. His nose stung, and he lowered his head in distress, realizing he had messed up again.

He didn't answer, and Yan Yize didn't urge him either. He just waited quietly, his dark eyes like the bottomless deep sea, calm yet turbulent.

Shang Xu hung his head, his eyes filled with dejection, and even his voice became weak and listless, "I accidentally twisted my ankle."

After saying that, he looked up at her, then quickly lowered his head again, his lips pressed tightly together, his heart heavy, his fingers nervously clutching his clothes, wondering if she would find him repulsive.

"I'm sorry to have troubled you again."

Yan Yize frowned, blaming himself for his previous negligence. He had been sitting down and that's why he hadn't noticed that his wife was injured. If she had known, she certainly wouldn't have left him alone. But what puzzled her even more was his words.

Why apologize?

"You're the one who's hurt, and you're the one who's suffering."

She spoke earnestly, and there was not a trace of blame in her words, which made him unable to help but look up and meet her dark eyes. Those beautiful eyes were indifferent and calm without a trace of emotion, yet they contained a magical power that calmed his uneasy heart.

"I..." Shang Xu said one word and then stopped. The world is so harsh on men. He entered her mansion and became her person. He had nowhere else to go but to depend on her.

He tried to please her, but failed. Her rejection showed her displeasure. Shang Xu knew he was a superfluous person, and for a superfluous person to survive in her household, he naturally had to follow certain rules, the most important of which was not to cause her any trouble.

But as things stand, he hasn't succeeded.

Shang Xu harbored a deep-seated worry: he feared he would be expelled from the manor, and he knew clearly that the Shang family would no longer tolerate him, leaving him nowhere to go.

"Why did you stop talking?" Yan Yize frowned and looked at him probingly. She could tell that he was very wary of her, but she simply wanted to help him and had no other intentions.

After thinking for a moment, she said, "We are husband and wife, you don't need to avoid me like this."

Upon hearing this, Shang Xu pursed his lips. If they were husband and wife, why didn't they consummate their marriage? He wanted to ask, but his reason prevented him from asking. He silently shook his head, indicating that it was nothing.

Yan Yize stared at him for a moment, then looked away and didn't insist. She raised her eyes and looked around the carriage. The space inside the carriage was too cramped to carry him, so she had to get out first. She helped him up and said gently, "Let me help you out first."

"No need, just let Qingzhu do it."

Shang Xu shook his head repeatedly, still not wanting to trouble her too much.

"Let's go." Yan Yize didn't give him a chance to refuse at all, and led him outside without allowing him to refuse.

Shang Xu hesitated for two seconds. With no other choice, he could only follow her movements. With her help, he felt much more relaxed. However, since the two were close, they inevitably touched each other. The cool fragrance wafted over, making him unable to suppress the memory of that soft touch.

He tried to shake it off, but still lost his footing, stumbled, and almost fell. Yan Yize immediately reached out and hooked his arm around his waist, his voice neither cold nor indifferent, revealing no emotion, "Slow down."

Shang Xu nodded calmly, but his heart was in turmoil. Afraid of another accident, he dared not think any further and focused his attention on the road in front of him.

Compared to his panic, Yan Yize stared thoughtfully at his reddened earlobes. They were red again. What was he thinking?

At that moment, a strong desire arose in her heart to know what she was thinking. Yan Yize suppressed the desire in his heart, his eyes darkened, and he frowned, very puzzled as to why he would have such a strange thought.

Fortunately, when they reached the curtain, the two breathed a sigh of relief. Yan Yize put one hand on his arm and the other around his waist. If he didn't let go, he would lift the curtain, so he had to do it himself.

Her gaze, though seemingly intangible, left Shang Xu completely bewildered. He hastily pulled up the curtain, stammering, "Okay...okay."

Yan Yize remained silent, gesturing for him to move forward. After a few steps, the view suddenly opened up, and she tightened her grip on his waist. The sudden feeling of weightlessness made Shang Xu instinctively reach out and hug her tightly.

Before Shang Xu could react, he was already in her arms in an intimate position. He looked up and saw her smooth chin, and his heart began to pound wildly.

His face changed, and he struggled frantically, crying, "Your Highness, let me down!"

"Don't move." Yan Yize hugged him tightly, lowered his head, his expression frank and righteous, and said, "You're injured, I'll carry you down."

"I can do it myself."

Shang Xu struggled, but made a defiant statement.

Yan Yize frowned in displeasure, loosened his grip, and the person in his arms immediately dropped a little. Shang Xu froze, no longer daring to struggle.

"If you move again and fall, don't blame me." The words were light and casual, but carried a threatening tone.

After weighing the options, Shang Xu nodded obediently, as if frozen in place, not daring to move an inch.

Yan Yize carried him and steadily stepped down from the carriage, her breathing not even faltering. He was so light, that was her first thought.

She couldn't help but lower her head. The person in her arms was extremely quiet. Because of his discomfort, he didn't know where to put his hands. They were stiffly placed in mid-air, as if afraid of touching her. He looked somewhat cute, and a faint smile unconsciously appeared in her eyes.
