Chapter 7
After a good night's sleep, when Chenxi woke up the next morning, she saw the golden-eyed man by her bedside again.
After a good night's rest, and having been awake for a day, Chenxi found that her body was gradually regaining its strength, and the weak feeling from yesterday had disappeared.
The man with golden eyes brought a food cart filled with exquisite delicacies and told Chen Xi, "Because humans have been gone for a long time, many production lines that once served humans have been abandoned and damaged. In the society of the machine race, there are not many things that humans use and eat. These foods were urgently made using the same materials based on historical information in the database. I don't know if they will suit your taste."
Furthermore, the man with the golden eyes told Chenxi that these rudimentary conditions would not last long. Soon, a dedicated team would arrive to customize all the items and food that humans need for Chenxi, ensuring her quality of life.
Chen Xi looked at the exquisite and varied food on the food cart, and listened to the golden-eyed man's words, which sounded as if he had suffered a great injustice. She felt a strong sense of unease.
However, considering that these foods were hastily prepared according to recipes, and that robot societies might not have produced human food for thousands of years, they might only look appealing but not actually taste good. Therefore, she didn't refute the golden-eyed man's words, but instead tentatively reached out towards the food on the food cart.
To Chenxi's surprise, as he reached out to pick up a pastry that looked delicious, two robotic arms emerged from under the food cart. One arm picked up the pastry Chenxi had chosen and handed it to him, while the other arm picked up a small spoon, scooped a spoonful of the pastry, and brought it to Chenxi's mouth.
Chen Xi tentatively opened his mouth and was fed a bite of cake by the robotic arm. To Chen Xi's surprise, the robotic arms were very flexible, and the way they fed him the cake was very gentle and skilled, without any of the stiffness he had imagined. It was just like being gently fed a bite by a real person.
More importantly, this cake is really delicious.
Filled with curiosity, Chenxi ate a few bites of cake as the robotic arms fed him. Because the cake tasted really good, his eyes turned expectantly to another plate of food on the food cart. Soon, two more robotic arms emerged from under the cart, one holding a plate and the other a fork, and resumed their work.
Chen Xi looked at the four robotic arms surrounding him and wondered how many robotic arms the food cart actually had. However, after a while, Chen Xi decided to give up on exploring this question, because at this moment, there were no fewer than ten robotic arms around him. Some were holding spoons, some were holding forks, some were holding drinks, and some were holding napkins and wiping his mouth from time to time. But the food cart still seemed like a bottomless pit, and he had no idea how many more robotic arms could be pulled out of it.
Suddenly, Chenxi realized something was wrong. Why was she taking a napkin? There seemed to be an extra one...
Chen Xi followed the extra arm, which was clearly different from the other mechanical arms, to a handsome face, and then looked into a pair of calm, golden eyes.
Aside from the unexpected addition of someone else along the way, Chenxi thoroughly enjoyed the meal. Not only was there a wide variety of dishes, but each one was also incredibly delicious. More importantly, it was the first time Chenxi had ever experienced being fed every single bite. Was this how humans lived every day in the future? Chenxi suddenly began to understand why humanity eventually became so bored that it went extinct.
After finishing her meal, Chen Xi looked at the golden-eyed man by the bed and continued her conversation, "I didn't ask you your name yesterday. Can you tell me your name?"
The mainframe's golden eyes gazed at Chen Xi and said, "You can call me Jin Yi."
Jin Yi?
Chen Xi silently recited it in her mind, then smiled and said, "Jin Yi, it sounds very nice."
The mainframe felt a peculiar sensation as it heard its own name spoken for the first time by another person, and this person was a human.
After learning the name of the golden-eyed robot in front of her, Chen Xi began to inquire about other things. Among them, Chen Xi was most concerned about, "Since I was found by you on Earth, is it possible that there are other frozen humans on Earth?"
Unfortunately, Chenxi's hopes were quickly dashed. When Chenxi asked him, Jin Yi told him that after discovering him, they immediately conducted several more in-depth searches of the entire Earth, but found nothing. Therefore, he was certain that Chenxi was the last one to escape their net on Earth.
The reason he managed to slip through the net before was because Earth was already a protected planet during human times. Thousands of years after humans ventured into space, they enacted laws to designate Earth as a specially protected planet, which cannot be set foot on casually on ordinary days.
At that time, all of humanity withdrew from Earth and conducted a large-scale search of the planet before leaving. After the extinction of humanity, the remaining robots, due to their excessive trust in the previous search, did not conduct any new searches. They simply continued to strictly guard their home planet Earth in accordance with the laws of the human era, until the unexpected appearance of Chenxi.
After hearing Jin Yi's answer, Chen Xi seemed a little disappointed, but he quickly cheered himself up and asked Jin Yi if there was still internet access so he could go online and check it out himself.
How could a society composed of artificial intelligence be without the internet? Jin Yi gave Chen Xi a device, told him how to use it, and then let him explore freely.
While Jin Yi was around, Chen Xi explored the various sections and functions. After Jin Yi left, she immediately focused on information about history and human past.
Although Chenxi received good treatment after waking up, he was willing to believe everything Jin Yi told him about humans and robots.
However, suspicion is something ingrained in human genes. Even knowing that her actions might not be able to fool the robots, who are essentially AI, Chenxi still decided to verify it herself.
If what Jin Yi said is not true, then there must be loopholes in the vast ocean of the internet.
A few days later, Chen Xi lay on the bed even more listlessly, but seeing his more relaxed and casual expression now than in the first two days after he woke up, one could tell how his test had gone.
In the past few days, Chen Xi not only verified that what Jin Yi said was true, but he also went out for a stroll on the starship and saw other red-eyed robots besides Jin Yi.
