Chapter 5 (1)
Shi Tongguang had changed: he dared to fart in front of Yu Rui. And he did it with a certain impudence. It was a gurgling, watery fart.
Yu Rui thinks this is not a good phenomenon.
This "symptom" more or less means that Shi Tongguang's infatuation with her has waned. He was infatuated with her and would eventually wake up. But he didn't expect him to wake up so quickly - he used his beauty to please her, and his love faded as her beauty faded. The problem is that she hasn't aged yet.
There is little hope of getting married.
During Qingming Festival and the Dragon Boat Festival, Shi Tongguang neither took her to see the deceased ancestors nor the living in her family. Yu Rui found this marriage meaningless and had no faith in it. And, most importantly, she didn't want to marry him. She had originally been ready to sacrifice herself, gritted her teeth, closed her eyes, and decided to find such a reliable man to marry and commit her life to. Who could have imagined that he would still be so hesitant and unwilling to agree?
Yu Rui began to think of a way out for herself, with the principle that she could not lose both her money and her life.
She would not make the problem too clear. No matter how many times she broke up in the past, she always gave the other party face and left room for each other so that they could meet again in the future and remain friends.
But Yu Rui eventually put Shi Tongguang to the test: Huang Qi returned from out of town, and Yu Rui took Shi Tongguang out for dinner with some old classmates. They chatted and played around, but Shi Tongguang barely reacted. Yu Rui understood: This man, too, wanted to break up. He was probably waiting for her to bring it up.
"It can't always be like this." One day, Yu Rui said suddenly.
"What."
"I said, I can't stay at home like this all the time."
"Running group."
"Can you bear being gone for several months?"
Shi Tongguang said nothing.
"I've thought about it for a long time and have done some research. I think opening a beauty salon is still profitable. I can employ two people and take care of the family and you." Yu Rui smiled. "It's like having a base. We can go there anytime."
"Why are you so tired?" Shi Tongguang said, "In this world, if you don't waste money, you're making money."
Yu Rui was unhappy. What does it mean to waste money?
"I'm going to make money."
"Not enough living expenses? Add some more."
Yu Rui retorted, "It's not about money. I have to realize my own value. I want to be a housewife, get married, and raise children. If I have two or three children, where else can I be? I'm in pain too, don't you know?"
Silence for a few seconds.
It's like throwing out a question and seeing how Shi Tongguang responds.
"Let's take another look," he said.
Blurring.
Yu Rui didn't press her advantage. She gave him time. She wanted one million. She believed this figure was Shi Tongguang's upper limit, and it would require great determination to come up with it.
After three days, Shi Tongguang asked her how much she wanted. Yu Rui immediately gave him the number without hesitation. Since there was no future, there was no point in saving money for him.
"You are a shareholder and you will get dividends." Yu Rui laughed.
A few days later, Shi Tongguang said, "Wait a minute. The company's financial turnover has been a bit of a problem lately. We'll invest once the accounts are settled." Yu Rui hummed, feeling deeply unhappy, but she didn't show it on her face.
Then just wait and see.
Meeting Yu Shuang over the weekend, Yu Rui shared her worries with her best friend. Of the four beauties, she trusted Shuang the most. Jia was too conservative, Meng a bit mean, and only Shuang had a big heart and a tight mouth.
Yu Rui said she planned to break up with Shi Tongguang.
"Aren't you getting married?" Yu Shuang was surprised.
“There is no such arrangement.”
"Why? For what?"
"Who knows, haha." Yu Rui took a breath, "Maybe he wants to find a rich woman like you who owns a house."
Yu Shuang spat, "What the hell, what kind of man is this! Bullshit!"
Her stance was very clear. She firmly sided with Rui.
"It seems like there is someone outside." Yu Rui lied sincerely.
"Fuck!" Yu Shuang stood up from the bed, making a hole in the ceiling. "Isn't he satisfied with you? What do you want?!"
"Zhang Peina," Yu Rui lit a cigarette. Yu Shuang was bewildered. Rui explained, "That sexy actress, her husband still goes to whores." With a snort, she continued, "Sister Meng is right. Handsome men cheat, and ugly men cheat too. So why not find a handsome man? A wife is not as good as a concubine, and a concubine is not as good as cheating. Shuang, I really admire you. Lao Kang just lets his children go."
"He doesn't dare." Yu Shuang waved his hand, "He's honest."
"I know a person and his face, but I don't know..." He swallowed the word "heart".
"Is there something going on?"
"No." Yu Rui was embarrassed. She couldn't be too explicit. And she couldn't expose Sister Jia. "You really don't plan to get married?"
"Isn't it just a piece of paper? What's the point? If you really want to steal, why not just give it a piece of paper? Aren't Carina Lau and Tony Leung..."
Yu Rui couldn't bear to hear this example and interrupted, "Didn't they get married in the end?"
"That will be more than ten or twenty years from now."
"Crazy." Yu Rui smiled bitterly.
Yu Shuang said: "You can't worry about men, you have to let men worry about you."
Yu Rui corrected, "There are differences between men and women."
“I don’t see much difference.”
"A man can have a child in one night, but a woman has to work for ten months. Is there any difference?"
Yu Shuang had no way to refute Yu Rui's words. Her relationship with Kang Long, at the moment, seemed like a pendulum, swinging back and forth endlessly. Sometimes, Yu Shuang wondered, were they in love? He said yes. She wasn't sure. Wasn't love supposed to be madness? But she wasn't mad enough. Their feelings—yes, they were affection, not passion—were not so blinding as to lead to marriage.
After her mother's death, Yu Shuang decided that aside from a small sense of sympathy for her younger brother, she no longer had any responsibilities for anyone else. Her sole responsibility was to make herself happy. However, when Yu Rui raised the issue of men being unfaithful, Yu Shuang felt a sense of crisis. However, she didn't hide it, even though it was exhausting.
She brought it up directly with Kang Long.
Kang Long came to eat. He cooked dumplings. Yu Shuang said, "Old Kang, if you have any changes, please let me know."
"What's the meaning."
"I mean, if, if you fall in love with someone else, I can withdraw, no problem."
"Not yet." Kang Long wasn't very good at using chopsticks. He picked up the dumplings and they playfully jumped back into the bowl.
"Don't feel burdened."
"You're jealous." Kang Long joked.
"Between us..." Yu Shuang was about to explain. Kang Long interrupted, "Did Sister Jia tell you?" Yu Shuang asked, "What does it have to do with her?" Kang Long said, "I was eating with female colleagues in the cafeteria and saw Sister Jia a few times. I didn't have time to say hello. Maybe there was some misunderstanding."
"There is no misunderstanding."
"You're doubting me by reminding me like that," Kang Long said, "and it makes me feel uncomfortable."
"I want you to not feel burdened."
"What about you? You don't talk to your male colleagues?" Kang Long asked. "I feel uncomfortable with you hanging out with men all day. Don't I put up with it?"
"That's work."
"I eat with my female colleagues as a way to relax after work. I can't have no solidarity with my colleagues."
"I told you it has nothing to do with eating."
"Shuang, we need to draw a line between us and clarify our rights and obligations. Yes, we are not married, it's a loose relationship, not legally binding. But this doesn't mean that there are no red lines in our hearts."
"Tell me about your red bar." Yu Shuang said happily.
"I can't accept you not saying hello to me about anything."
"for example."
"For example, if you're going out on a whim, or having dinner with colleagues, or on a business trip, or anywhere else, no matter where, anything," Kang Long said in one breath. "We don't live together now, and I feel it's my duty to keep track of your whereabouts and your situation." Yu Shuang was about to speak, but Kang Long blocked her with his hand, meaning for her to pause. He continued, "This doesn't mean I want to control you. This means we're in constant communication. Who can guarantee the safety of a woman living alone like you? What if..." Kang Long didn't finish. A terrifying scene.
Yu Shuang automatically added, "If I get into a car accident, get murdered, get kidnapped, or die of gas poisoning at home, you can be the first one to rush over and collect my body." She smiled nonchalantly, "That makes sense. I agree. Keep me informed of your whereabouts from now on. You can serve as my reminder."
Pause. Yu Shuang said, "It's my turn now."
"Please go ahead."
"I don't want to hear about chestnuts all the time. I'm not your thesis advisor."
"My fault."
“I hope there will be more variety.”
"Fancy?"
Yu Shuang coughed, "In some aspects...we are...too monotonous."
"What aspects?" He still didn't understand.
"On the bed." Yu Shuang hid in English. Open girl.
Kang Long refused to admit this. He put down his chopsticks and said, "I was afraid you couldn't handle it." He was a gym rat and considered himself strong. He walked over, kissed Yu Shuang, and tried to hug her.
Caught off guard, Yu Shuang slapped him across the face. Kang Long remained silent. He considered the slap part of the fun.
After this negotiation, Yu Shuang, as agreed, periodically updated Kang Long on his whereabouts. He usually reported, "Out," "In a meeting," "Finished," "Off work now," "Having dinner with colleagues," "In the hospital (with Rui)"... Kang Long's responses were usually "Oh," "Oh," or "Oh."
Between the lines, the two seemed to have little affection for each other. Yet, Kang Long could sense the presence of affection. He felt content, as if he were the superior, with Yu Shuang reporting to him at all times. He felt in control, as if they were still one.
Yu Jia visited Yu Shuang and gave her a set of sheet music, treasured for years. She asked her to pass it on to Bai Yuankai. Yu Shuang was puzzled, "Don't you have his contact information?" Yu Jia explained that she lived far away and it would be too much trouble to make a trip alone. She just happened to be passing by today and stopped by. Yu Shuang said, "I don't see him often."
Yu Jia said, "If you don't, Xiaokang will probably see her." Yu Shuang finally realized what was happening. The two chatted for a while. Yu Shuang didn't mention Rui's breakup. She promised to keep it a secret. Yu Jia also didn't mention Meng's birthday party. She, too, had to keep her mouth shut.
On the day of the birthday party, Yu Jia asked Li Ren for leave and explained the situation. Li Ren said nothing. Si Si's application was finally approved, and she was completely focused on going abroad. She had no intention of attending the party—and she couldn't go either. This was a gathering for adults. Yu Yi was still helping his niece.
Yu Jia worried about what to wear. Of course, she couldn't wear something too eye-catching; it was Yu Meng's birthday, and she was the center of attention. But she couldn't be too shabby either; she had to be just the right supporting role.
Finally, I chose a suit. It came with a windbreaker. It was a very windy night.
"No need to wait for me." Yu Jia said before leaving.
Neither Sisi nor her father responded. They hadn't planned to wait for her in the first place.
Pushing open the door of the restaurant, Yu Jia's mind suddenly buzzed, and she instantly understood why Yu Meng only invited her.
