Chapter 8 (6)
Ye Cha was driving, and Yu Rui was helping a girl sit in the back seat.
They had been given a special assignment and were directly responsible to President Han. Ye Cha had already warned her to keep it secret. Han Guang rarely gave specific instructions, but since he had, it must have been something of great importance, and no word of it could be leaked.
Yu Rui didn't understand why they had to invite her at first, but when she saw the girl and her slightly protruding belly, it suddenly dawned on her that the "Han Guang" she had understood in the past might have been just a tiny aspect of Han Guang himself, the tip of the iceberg.
The girl got pregnant, and Han Guang asked Ye Cha and Yu Rui to take her to get an abortion. As for the relationship between the girl and Han Guang, no one dared to ask, and they could only imagine it.
Yu Rui observed the girl out of the corner of her eye.
She wasn't pretty, but she was young, strong, and full of energy. Compared to the meticulously carved girls like Yu Rui, she was more energetic, simple, and natural. On the way to the hospital, she was still eating chocolate to replenish her energy.
It seems like he is about to go to the battlefield.
Yu Rui recalled her painful experience. Although the baby was not yet formed, scraping the fetus off was like picking an unripe fruit from a tree. The trunk was bound to be damaged.
A sinful thing.
Ye Cha glanced at Yu Rui in the rearview mirror. Yu Rui glanced back at him, and the two of them exchanged glances, a tacit understanding. Yu Rui suspected that Ye Cha's imaginary story matched her own: Han Guang had gotten someone pregnant, and the girl had come looking for him, but he didn't want the child, so he decisively dealt with it. He'd probably also give her some money afterward.
What Yu Rui found strange was that the woman didn't cry or make a fuss. She was calm the entire time, with a hint of joy on her face. Even the surgery was done in a methodical manner, as if all they had removed was a superfluous tumor. She wasn't worth pitying.
Ye Cha went to handle the paperwork, while Yu Rui stood in the private hospital corridor, arms folded. They both played the role of "patient's family members," Ye Cha as the girl's "fiancé," Yu Rui as her "sister." Ye Cha walked over, stopped, and exchanged glances with Yu Rui. They both nodded, their eyes saying, "Rich people are like this."
The evil of capital can make a mother so careless about her child. Occasionally, Rui and Cha would laugh. A few days later, Han Guang indeed gave the girl some money, arranging for Ye Cha to pay it. When Yu Rui learned of this, she felt even more strongly that Han Guang bore too much guilt. Previously, she had considered Han Guang's image glorious, especially after doing biographical interviews. She knew that he had endured hardships and difficulties, but ultimately achieved glory. She admired him and felt sorry for him. But now, he was just a wicked capitalist who toyed with women!
Yu Rui walked into Han Guang's office carrying a pile of books. They all wanted autographs. After the biography was published, it became a small-scale "bestseller." Many bosses, colleagues, and subordinates showed their support, and even after a reprint, they kept coming back for copies. Signing autographs became a chore, but fortunately, Han Guang never tired of it.
After signing his name and closing the cover, Han Guang raised his head. This was the last book. He found that Yu Rui's eyes seemed to be able to shoot flying needles.
"Do you have any opinions about me?" He spoke with a loose tongue. He looked nonchalant. Yu Rui whispered "no." Han Guang stood up and closed the door, then walked back, leaning his butt against the edge of the table. He extended his index finger and pointed at it from a distance. "In your heart, I am now a devil."
Yu Rui was at a loss and had to go over to hold the book. Han Guang teased again, "Do you think I got her pregnant and I'm not taking responsibility?"
So straightforward.
Yu Rui's scalp tingled. She turned her back to him, still speechless.
Han Guang said, "You are my assistant. There should be absolute trust between you and me. I need to know whether you are loyal to me."
Yu Rui immediately said, "I will keep it a secret."
Han Guang laughed, waved his hand and let her go out.
Later, Ye Cha and Yu Rui briefly touched upon the matter—a secret between them. Ye Cha seemed to have lost interest in the matter. Perhaps, in his view, whether his boss wanted children, lost one, or had one wasn't a big deal. Instead, the wind power project was a bit tricky. Yu Rui asked what the problem was. Ye Cha simply explained that it was a guaranteed profitable project, but obtaining approvals was difficult; he needed connections and channels. A real estate project in Chongqing had been sued, and the company was now in a difficult position. Not only would it lose money, but its image would also be affected. The wind power project, with its public welfare benefits, offered a good opportunity to rebuild its social image.
Yu Rui was dazed by the business talk, still thinking about the girl. She felt there must be something fishy going on. Han Guang only had one daughter. If it was his child, he probably wouldn't have asked her to abort it. Raising it would be no big deal. Or was there something wrong with the child? That wasn't ruled out. Or maybe it wasn't his child at all, and he was just helping out?
This possibility is relatively small.
A few days later, Yu Meng asked Yu Rui to meet. It was urgent. Yu Rui had to find time to go see her. In Yu Meng's office, Yu Rui received a "task," a request from Yu Meng. Yu Rui's heart raced when she heard the words coming out of Yu Meng's mouth—she was asking her to ask Zu Liangcai for help, to run a note!
Isn’t this a fairy tale?
Did Yu Meng know? Did she discover her past relationship with Liang Cai? No, only Heaven and Earth knew. How could she know? Liang Cai had already cut off contact with Yu Meng. Yu Rui forced herself to remain calm and smiled, "I can't."
Yu Meng came to sit next to her and said, "Only you can do it." He grabbed her hand and said, "Don't you remember? He came to you to tell you about the car accident."
I see.
Don't worry, the secret hasn't been revealed yet.
She's just a buffer.
Yu Meng dissected the project, analyzing the pros and cons clearly. She told her this was their best chance to improve themselves. "Do you want to be like Sister Jia, opening a restaurant, earning hard-earned money, and possibly even losing it? Rui, honestly, of the girls, I like you the most. You're sensible, you're thoughtful, and most importantly, we're a lot alike. After all these years and so many ups and downs, I've finally learned that relying on men is not as good as relying on ourselves. We can stand on men's shoulders and achieve our own success. What's this about love? Screw it!"
Yu Rui was shocked. Even Sister Meng didn't believe in love anymore. Is there still love in this world? What's the point of love?
She was confused.
Yu Meng finally said, "Rui, you are helping me and the company. But don't mention this to Old Han. Just treat it as a private deal between us sisters. If we can win, I'll give you shares. It's not easy for you to take, so you can just take a short break."
Sisi returned to England, and several people came to see her off. Luan Chengyun also showed up at Yu Jia's small restaurant. Shuang was too busy to come, so he called to say goodbye. Yu Rui arrived, called, and saw Yuan Kai was there too, so she left. Because of her sister's matter, she didn't want to meet Yuan Kai now. She felt that every move of Bai Yuankai was meaningful, and that it was to please Jiajie. Perhaps it was unconscious. But this was even more hateful. Yu Rui was unwilling to let both her sisters lose to Yu Jia. However, when it comes to matters of the heart, who can tell? Diana could lose to Camilla. Fortunately, Camilla and the prince also have conflicts now.
Yu Rui was convinced this relationship wouldn't last. Eat well and cook well—they all had fast food. Bai Yuankai had a meeting, so he hired a driver to take Sisi to the airport. Yu Jia, too busy, hugged her daughter goodbye. Luan Chengyun wouldn't move, and Yu Jia suspected he might have something to say. After finishing a batch of takeout orders, she sat down to meet him face to face.
"Go ahead." Yu Jia was now very straightforward. It was because of work.
"I'll try to persuade Yu Meng when I get a chance."
"What happened again?"
"We can't take that wind power project," Luan Chengyun said anxiously. Yu Jia moved the small bottle of pepper on the table and advised, "Old Luan, don't worry about her. Whether it's a loss or a profit, she can handle it. She's not a child anymore. I think she's changed a lot. She's more business-savvy than you." After a pause, he asked, "Aren't you getting married? When are you having the party?"
"Not getting married." Luan Chengyun said simply.
"Where are the people?"
"We've split up."
"This is not a joke."
"It's because this isn't a joke that we need to be cautious."
"Don't wait. Really. She has changed, and you have changed too." Yu Jia said the truth.
Luan Chengyun said: "I haven't changed, and she hasn't changed."
"So what? The situation has changed, just like me and Lao Di. Have I changed? Has he changed? It's difficult to change one's nature, but the environment has changed, and the tests that life gives us have changed. You have to force yourself to change." Yu Jia's heart twitched when Lao Di was mentioned.
She also blamed him.
For a moment, Luan Chengyun and Yu Jia both felt inexplicably lost. The two sat in silence for a while. Luan Chengyun stood up to leave, and Yu Jia continued to busy himself with the business in the store.
Before she could make up her mind to find Zu Liangcai, Huang Qi returned, demanding a meeting. Yu Rui gave him the address. Huang Qi went to the company to look for her. Upon arrival, Huang Qi was stunned. He hadn't expected Yu Rui to make it this far, to become the general assistant. The group also had a presence in the entertainment industry, though the output was limited. Yu Rui had long since given up acting and had never considered that path. But Huang Qi's arrival immediately led her to the point where he wanted her to make some introductions.
There is a play currently casting. If Han Guang says something, even if number one is not chosen, number two has a chance, and number three or four will definitely get it.
Yu Rui was in a dilemma.
She was most afraid of asking others for help, so when they met together, Yu Meng asked her to ask Liang Cai, and Huang Qi asked her to ask Han Guang.
Yu Rui wanted to refuse, but Huang Qi immediately lowered his stance, "Xiao Rui, it's not the past. I can wait. Now I have to take the next step. If you don't help me, who will?" If it were someone else, they might immediately respond: "What does your taking the next step have to do with me? What good will it do me?"
But facing Huang Qi, Yu Rui couldn't say this.
She knew the hardships of being an actor, she knew Huang Qi's struggles, his perseverance and persistence. Sometimes she felt that it was a blessing to have someone like Huang Qi around. He was still striving, as if fighting not just for himself but for the dreams of all twenty-six students in his class. Moreover, Yu Rui couldn't bear to let go of this "past." Old friends are a perishable resource, and she cherished the simple days when she and Huang Qi first arrived in the big city.
Let's have dinner together tonight, and invite Yu Qi along. Huang Qi's arrival is a good opportunity. Yu Qi has moved out of her sister's house and officially started living independently. Yu Rui always feels that Yu Qi is still angry. Angry at her. The root cause is the so-called "three-view conflict."
Huang Qi wanted to drink. Yu Qi joined him. Both of them sighed, and even after a few drinks, they still yearned for their youth—even though Yu Qi was still in his prime. Only Yu Rui remained calm. She rarely drank now. She had had enough of it in the past. She couldn't lament about her youth like Qi and Qi did, or feel nostalgic. With so much on her plate, she decided to live in the present.
During the meal, in front of Huang Qi, Yu Rui called Han Guang on speakerphone. She said she had a friend who was very promising and wanted to act, and asked if he could recommend her. Han Guang asked her to send him her acting resume. Huang Qi was so happy that he almost kissed Yu Rui. Yu Qi said calmly, "My sister always has a way." Yu Rui pretended not to hear. She now understood that some favors had to be done openly, like Huang Qi, while others could only be done secretly, like Yu Meng.
