Chapter 5: Accidentally Encountering Agui's Interrogation, a Narrow Escape from the Military Camp

“Therefore, when one’s will is calm and firm, and one’s spirit returns to its abode, then one’s aura will be overwhelming. When one’s aura is overwhelming, one’s inner strength will be solid. When one’s inner strength is solid, nothing can withstand one.” As Fukang’an spoke, he caught a glimpse of Yan Ning walking in and was startled. Why was she here?

"You mean we should hold back and conserve our strength?" the middle-aged general asked Fukang'an.

"Once the enemy is completely off guard, we can divide them up and ambush them. This way, we can disperse their power and take them down in one fell swoop." After listening to Fukang'an's explanation, the middle-aged general gave him an approving look.

Yan Ning stood at the door, unsure whether to go in or out, and just stood there listening to them say things she couldn't understand.

After a long while, the middle-aged general glanced at Yan Ning and said, "Step forward!"

Yan Ning hesitated for a moment, then took tiny steps to stand in front of them. She looked at Fukang'an, but he only glanced at her before lowering his head to continue studying the sand table map.

The old general's gaze was unfathomable to Yan Ning.

The old general looked to be in his forties or fifties. He wore blue armor similar to that of Fukang'an, but compared to the heroic spirit between Fukang'an's brows, his brows exuded more composure.

"He is General Agui." Seemingly sensing Yan Ning's unease, Fukang'an still bowed his head and spoke to Yan Ning. Only the familiar voice allowed Yan Ning to recognize that it was him speaking.

Yan Ning bowed once, then, realizing it was inappropriate, hastily curtsied again from memory. "Yan Ning greets General A Gui."

Agui, observing Yan Ning's strange behavior, remained calm and composed. "You are that radiant alien woman!"

"No, I don't remember anything. I don't know what happened."

Yan Ning's body began to tremble slightly as she shook her head. Although Fu Kang'an was heroic and imposing, he was young and innocent, while A Gui's battle-hardened aura made Yan Ning feel a little guilty.

There were only the three of them in the military tent. Every move Agui made drew Yan Ning's close attention. He lifted a corner of his cloak, sat down in the general's seat, and his voice became stern.

"Is that so? It seems you won't tell the truth without severe torture. Guards, bring on the corporal punishment!"

A-Gui had a round face and broad eyes, and although he was middle-aged, he possessed an even more imposing presence. His eyes, as if washed clean by the sea, were keenly aware of everything, gleaming with the light of a hawk.

Yan Ning recalled the soldiers she had seen on television, their bodies mangled and bloodied from being beaten with military batons. Her legs gave way, and she collapsed to the ground. Her face paled, and her voice trembled slightly. "I didn't lie. I told the truth. Please believe me, General."

“I’ve already told you that she’s just a weak woman with amnesia.” Fukang’an left the sand table and walked up to Yan Ning, looking at her with the same cold and stern features.

"Haha, I was once young and impetuous too. Just don't let it interfere with military affairs." Agui suddenly looked like he knew everything.

A stunningly beautiful woman suddenly appeared in the military camp, and he couldn't help but question her in detail. However, he saw that Yan Ning was so frightened by his few words that she collapsed to the ground, unable to get up. He sighed inwardly, thinking that she was just born with a beautiful face but couldn't wield any skill.

Fukang'an knelt on one knee and bowed, saying, "I already have the battle strategy in mind. I will take my leave now!"

Agui nodded, no longer watching the two departing figures. Fukang'an had followed him and Fuheng since childhood, and was a beloved general whom he had personally promoted. Being young, he lacked the same clarity and understanding regarding matters of love and sex as Agui. However, Agui knew Fukang'an's temperament well and always exercised restraint, so he didn't worry about him excessively, focusing instead on how to conquer the Greater and Lesser Jinchuan regions.

Yan Ning, her legs weak, followed Fu Kang'an out of the military tent. Still shaken, she didn't notice Fu Kang'an suddenly turn around and bumped into his arms. Fu Kang'an easily picked her up and carried her back to his own tent.

Looking at Yan Ning, whose gaze was unfocused, Fukang'an thought to himself, "She's so docile. She must have been really frightened." He couldn't help but smile.

After putting Yan Ning on the bed, he gently tidied her messy hair while softly scolding her, "Didn't I tell you not to run around? Why didn't you listen!"

Composing herself, Yan Ning turned her face away from Fukang'an's outstretched hand. "I wanted to find you and thank you, but I don't know which military tent you're in." She was telling the truth, but her voice was so weak it was hard to tell if she was telling the truth.

"So when they saw the many guards outside that military tent, they assumed I was inside." Fukang'an looked at Yan Ning, who had her head bowed, and smiled, his cold expression softening.

Yan Ning looked up and met Fu Kang'an's warm face. After what had just happened, she felt that with him there, she was no longer flustered and helpless.
