Chapter 6 Connecting Across Time and Space, Be My Woman

After much deliberation, she chose some clothes that weren't too brightly colored or too complicated in their workmanship. One was a lotus-root satin cheongsam embroidered with hibiscus flowers, with white satin patterns trimmed on the sleeves and primrose yellow patterns on the front; another was a pearl-white gauze skirt; and a pair of blue lotus satin embroidered shoes.

When Yan Ning put them on, she was quite surprised; the clothes seemed to be custom-made for her. She sighed inwardly, thinking that although Fukang'an, who was good at military campaigns, didn't understand needlework, he had a unique eye for size.

On the table sat a wisteria-colored brocade box. Yan Ning hesitated for a moment before opening it. Inside were some small ornaments such as hairpins and jade pendants, as well as a lotus-shaped hair ornament. She picked up the hair ornament and looked at the lotus flowers embroidered on her clothes; guessing, it seemed he really liked lotus flowers.

Yan Ning closed the brocade box, simply braided her hair, and did not wear any hair accessories.

The military camp was quiet and uneventful, and Yan Ning dared not wander out, so she began to examine the clothes. The fabric felt cool to the touch, and the embroidered flowers and birds were lifelike, the threads extremely fine, the embroidery tight, with water features between the flowers; exquisite and gorgeous.

Yan Ning looked at these and sighed inwardly. Each of these pieces could be considered a work of art, yet she was wearing them. What a pity.

"Cough cough..." Having experienced the embarrassment last time, Fukang'an walked to the entrance of the military tent and coughed twice.

Yan Ning thought to herself, "It's Fukang'an. Is this considered knocking on the door?" She couldn't help but smile slightly.

"Come in!" Yan Ning hid the smile on her face and straightened her back as she sat on the stool.

When Fukang'an saw Yan Ning, he was startled. She was elegant yet ethereal, but she wasn't wearing any of the jewelry he had prepared for her. Did she not like it?

"Don't you like the jewelry? Why aren't you wearing any? It's inconvenient to be on the march. You can choose whatever you like after we return to the capital."

Fukang'an sat down next to Yan Ning. He wasn't wearing armor, but a moon-white robe with a pearl and jade belt around his waist, and loosely hanging pouches and jade pendants.

Yan Ning looked at Fukang'an, who exuded nobility. If it weren't for his imposing heroic spirit, it would be hard to imagine that such a refined and elegant man was a general who led troops into battle.

She lowered her head. "No, this outfit alone is already very expensive. These pieces of jewelry are beautiful, but they're too pricey. I don't like extravagance." She also didn't like owing others too much, Yan Ning thought silently to herself.

Fukang'an was amused by Yan Ning's words. "Haha, these are nothing." As he spoke, he opened the brocade box and picked out a hair accessory suitable for Yan Ning to wear.

He was favored by the emperor and came from a family of generals and relatives of the emperor. Therefore, he was always generous to women, but Yan Ning did not want to become one of his many wives and concubines.

She quickly snatched the brocade box and closed it. "I have something I want to discuss with you."

"What is it?"

Fukang'an felt that Yan Ning's words and actions were strange from time to time!

"I don't want to just eat for free in the military camp. I want to help everyone." Yan Ning looked at Fukang'an with anticipation and said what was on her mind in one breath.

Fukang'an looked at Yan Ning and chuckled, "Help? What help can you be? Go to the front lines and fight the enemy?"

Yan Ning sensed the teasing in Fukang'an's words and lowered her head. "I can cook and do laundry."

“Those are all done by people,” he replied casually.

"There must be something suitable for me to do in the military camp!" Yan Ning said, looking up at Fukang'an, unwilling to give up.

"Be my woman, Fukang'an."
