Chapter 15
Gu Xiuyi was right. Not only did Ji Ruan’s voice fail, but he also collapsed.
Ji Ruan slept very uneasily that night. He was clearly tired after a long day, and fell asleep quickly when he went to bed. However, he could not sleep soundly. He felt uncomfortable somewhere in his daze, and suddenly woke up in the second half of the night.
The moment he woke up, it was dark in front of him. He could not feel the street lights outside the window, nor could he see the night light on the table. He had taken off the external machine before going to bed, and now he had a faint tinnitus.
Ji Ruan indulged in this suffocating feeling of numbness for a few seconds, and then was pulled back to reality by a sharp pain in his stomach. The black fog in front of his eyes dissipated and the tinnitus became more intense.
His stomach was beating fast with an intense burning sensation. Ji Ruan shivered in pain and subconsciously hugged his upper abdomen and curled up. It was very cold there, as if a piece of ice was hanging heavily on it.
He was sweating a lot, his pajamas were wet under his palms, his hair was wet, and sweat soaked his eyelashes, even his vision became blurred.
Ji Ruan's consciousness wasn't even fully awake yet. He gasped with his eyes open, feeling the pain in a daze.
The next second, an even more intense stomach cramp came over him, as if his chest and abdomen were stiff, forcing Ji Ruan to instinctively get up from the bed and stumble mechanically to the bathroom.
Ji Ruan vomited the moment he touched the sink.
His eyes were blurred and he couldn't calculate how long he had been vomiting. He only knew that the cramps in his stomach gradually turned into a dense stabbing pain, and his collar and back were soaked with cold sweat.
Later, perhaps because of vomiting and acid reflux, Ji Ruan felt a severe burning in his chest and throat. He washed his face, choked and coughed, and fell to the ground. He felt dizzy and there was a buzzing scream in his ears.
Ji Ruan woke up despite the extreme pain.
His fingertips were numb and he held on to the wall for a long time before he stood up, but he bent down again because of the stomach pain.
Gu Xiuyi's room was next door, and Aunt Zhao lived on the first floor. Ji Ruan felt dizzy and painful just walking from her room to the next door. She had never disliked a room being too big as much as she did today.
The handle of Gu Xiuyi's door was very cold. Ji Ruan knocked twice, but no one answered. His stomach was still aching and the pain did not stop for a moment. He had to lean against the door for leverage and then knocked on it hard.
“Click—”
The door was opened from the inside. Ji Ruan lost his support and his mind went blank. He fell straight in, but was caught steadily by someone.
His eyes were dazzled, his ears were ringing, and his senses were out of balance. Only his sense of smell was still working, and he smelled the familiar scent on Gu Xiuyi.
When Gu Xiuyi was woken up in the middle of the night, he didn't expect to meet Ji Ruan like this at the door. He was covered in cold sweat, his face was pale, and he was still shaking.
He patted Ji Ruan's sweaty face and wanted to speak, but found that he didn't have a cochlear implant, so he leaned close to his left ear and said, "Ji Ruan?"
"Ji Ruan, where do you feel uncomfortable?"
Ji Ruan was in so much pain that he couldn't hear anything. The air conditioner in Gu Xiuyi's room was turned on very low. The cool breeze made his stomach twist violently again. He shivered in pain and could only cry out in pain when he opened his mouth.
When Gu Xiuyi saw Ji Ruan pressing his stomach so hard that his knuckles turned white, he immediately guessed that it was probably gastroenteritis.
Ji Ruan felt cold all over, so Gu Xiuyi grabbed a coat and wrapped him up, then picked him up and started walking towards the garage. However, he stopped after taking two steps, turned around and went to Ji Ruan's room to take the small external machine.
When Gu Xiuyi carried Ji Ruan to the co-pilot seat, he was in so much pain that he couldn't muster any strength. He was sweating a lot and couldn't wear the external device, but Gu Xiuyi seemed to be trying to talk to him.
Every time he heard a muffled voice, Ji Ruan would respond with an "hmm", at least letting Gu Xiuyi know that he had not fainted.
The pain in the back was so severe that Ji Ruan curled up in the passenger seat and bit his lips tightly until his lower lip broke and the smell of blood filled his mouth.
Then he was swallowed up by the huge vortex, and in a trance he seemed to be back to the time when he was seriously ill. He took a lot of medicine, and the drug reactions sometimes caused him stomach pain, which was much worse than the current pain.
That kind of pain makes people clearly feel that their body is being corroded by the disease and is devouring their spirit as well. It is a horrible pain.
·
At five o'clock in the morning, Gu Xiuyi rushed through the emergency room with Ji Ruan, who was crying in pain, and finally sent him to a single room.
Ji Ruan was already unconscious at that time. Gu Xiuyi thought he had fainted from the pain, but the doctor repeatedly emphasized that he was just tired from the pain and fell asleep.
Gu Xiuyi sat beside the bed and watched the nurse give Ji Ruan an injection. He waited for a while, and after confirming that Ji Ruan showed no signs of waking up, he got up and went to the doctor's office.
"Ah, it's nothing serious," the doctor said, probably because he has seen this many times. His reaction was normal: "It's just common acute gastroenteritis. You can be discharged after two days of IV drip."
"But he bit his lips because of the pain." Gu Xiuyi's face was gloomy.
The doctor laughed when he heard this: "How can gastroenteritis not hurt? What did the child eat?"
Gu Xiuyi pursed his lips and said, "Barbecue, ice beer... and ice cream."
"It's normal, normal," the doctor said, not surprised. "It's like this. It's the summer vacation during graduation season. Maybe everyone is too excited. We have so many patients coming to the emergency room every night. They are all of this age and condition. A few days ago, there was even a patient who drank so much that he had gastric bleeding. It was really scary..."
As Gu Xiuyi listened, his brows furrowed deeper and deeper. He truly felt the generation gap between himself and today's young kids. He was not so crazy when he graduated before.
The doctor glanced at Gu Xiuyi's face, smiled and shook his head: "It's okay, your child is quite well behaved. He is like this mainly because of his physical constitution and weak stomach. Just eat less irritating food in the future."
Gu Xiuyi nodded and curled his lips: "I understand, thank you doctor."
Before he left, a nurse brought in a report. The doctor took a look and immediately stopped Gu Xiuyi: "Wait a moment!"
Gu Xiuyi turned around.
The doctor looked at the report, then looked at Gu Xiuyi again, and said as if to confirm: "Ji Ruan, RH negative blood type A?"
Gu Xiuyi was stunned.
He had no idea what Ji Ruan's blood type was, but he knew that RH negative blood was extremely rare.
Gu Xiuyi closed the door again and sat back in front of the doctor's desk, looking serious: "Is there any problem?"
The doctor stopped laughing and became more serious: "Now there is a problem."
He pushed up his glasses. “The patient has a rare blood type, but his blood doesn’t coagulate very well.”
Gu Xiuyi frowned.
"Let me put it this way," the doctor pointed at the report and continued, "He has a low platelet count, so it will be harder for his wound to heal than for an average person. This wouldn't be serious, but it would be a big problem if he had a rare blood type."
The doctor tapped the table and emphasized: "Family members must pay attention to this, reduce bumps and collisions, and absolutely avoid large-area trauma. Otherwise, if something goes wrong and blood cannot be transferred, it will be very dangerous..."
·
Until he came out of the office, Gu Xiuyi's brows were still furrowed. The incandescent lights of the hospital dazzled his eyes, making him inexplicably upset.
He then realized that Ji Ruan had bruises on his ankle that didn't go away for a long time after he was pounced on by the cat, and the small wound on his ankle that healed very slowly... everything was related to his poor blood coagulation function.
Gu Xiuyi took the report back to the ward and glanced at Ji Ruan. She was still asleep and it was already morning. He called Aunt Zhao, sat quietly in the ward waiting for her to come, and then returned to the villa without saying a word.
Gu Xiuyi went back, had breakfast, took a shower, and changed his clothes, but strangely, the slight confusion in his heart had no idea what was going on and was not relieved.
When he entered the ward again, Ji Ruan had woken up and was lying obediently on the bed receiving an infusion, quietly looking at the green leaves outside through the gap in the curtains.
His complexion was still very bad, his eyes and eyebrows were tired, his lips were bloodless, and the hand that was not receiving the injection was loosely placed on his stomach, and his finger bones were unusually thin.
Gu Xiuyi whispered a few words to Aunt Zhao and asked her to go back first. After hearing the door close, he sat down on the chair beside the bed without saying a word.
Ji Ruan's current look was very different from the cheerful look he had last night after drinking some wine. For an instant, Gu Xiuyi was back to the day when they first met. At that time, Ji Ruan seemed to be lying on the bed in a listless manner as well.
Gu Xiuyi sat quietly, suddenly not knowing what to say.
Ji Ruan couldn't speak either.
He really felt a little uncomfortable. His stomach still hurt a little and his throat was uncomfortable.
Thinking about how he had an argument with Gu Xiuyi yesterday when he was drunk, and how he had gastroenteritis at night and was half dead, knocking on other people's doors and going to the hospital all night... Ji Ruan felt like leaving this beautiful world.
In the end, Ji Ruan spoke first.
His voice was hoarse, and he spoke slowly, each word as if he had carefully considered it: "I will...not drink anymore."
Ignore the entire bickering last night.
Gu Xiuyi understood Ji Ruan's meaning almost immediately, and walked down the stairs calmly and said, "Well, your stomach is not good, so you should eat less irritating food."
Ignore the whole process of almost losing control of my expression because I lost the argument last night.
The two looked at each other and reached some kind of consensus tacitly, such as not talking about last night.
The doctor's words lingered in Gu Xiuyi's mind. He hesitated for a moment and reminded Ji Ruan: "Your blood type is rare and your blood coagulation is not very good. You should pay more attention to yourself."
"What?"
Ji Ruan moved and turned his head slightly like a frightened animal.
Gu Xiuyi didn't understand why he was like this, and hesitantly asked, "What's wrong?"
There was a flash of "click" in Ji Ruan's mind, and a new memory was activated.
It is a very distant memory, the hospital, the surgery, the cochlear implant, the RH negative A blood type…
"No, it's okay..." Ji Ruan swallowed and forced himself to calm down: "I have panda blood..."
Gu Xiuyi didn't know when he changed from sitting upright to leaning forward. He put his finger on the call bell and looked at his face: "Are you okay? Do you need to call a doctor?"
"It's really okay," Ji Ruan's eyelashes trembled, and she licked her dry lips: "It's just... my blood clotting is okay..."
He looked at Gu Xiuyi, his delicate eyebrows slightly frowned, and pointed to his ear: "I had a cochlear implant, and the surgeon didn't mention anything about blood coagulation at the time..."
Ji Ruan's heart sank slowly. He knew that this body had always been a little sick, but he never thought it would be so serious. Rare blood type plus difficulty in blood clotting, how much better was this situation than his previous terminal illness?
Maybe I can live longer, but does that mean I can only live cautiously forever?
"Ji Ruan," Gu Xiuyi put his hand on Ji Ruan's shoulder, with some soothing force: "Don't be nervous, I asked the doctor, your blood coagulation problem is related to the environment and physical condition. If you take medicine and adjust your diet well, the indicators may gradually improve."
"Really?" Ji Ruan pressed his stomach, the emotional fluctuations made him feel a little painful again.
Buzz——
The phone on the bedside table vibrated twice. Gu Xiuyi took it and handed it to Ji Ruan, comforting her: "It's okay as long as you pay more attention. Don't think too much."
"Um……"
Ji Ruan tried his best to calm down and took the phone. It was a message from Han Xiaolin, saying that he would send him something.
Ji Ruan was receiving an IV drip and it was difficult to type, so he pressed the voice button: "I'm at the Second Affiliated Hospital. Is it convenient for you to come over?"
Half an hour later, Han Xiaolin rushed into the ward in a hurry, but immediately restrained himself when he saw Gu Xiuyi sitting next to him.
"Hello, Mr. Gu..."
Gu Xiuyi nodded casually without interrupting their conversation.
Han Xiaolin stole a glance at Gu Xiuyi, carefully sat down beside the bed, and asked Ji Ruan in a low voice: "What's wrong with you?"
"It's okay," Ji Ruan said with a hoarse throat. He coughed twice and his face turned pale again: "...What do you want to give me?"
"Oh, this notice," Han Xiaolin took out an envelope from his bag, "Saturday is the freshman mobilization meeting at Beijing University, which is also the campus open day. We have to attend and report in at the same time."
Ji Ruan raised the bed a little, half sat up, took the envelope and opened it.
Han Xiaolin looked at Ji Ruan's weak appearance and was a little worried: "Can you... go?"
Ji Ruan nodded gently: "Saturday is fine, I can be discharged from the hospital tomorrow or the day after tomorrow."
"Also," Han Xiaolin whispered, "Families are also invited to the open day, so most of the parents of the new students should be here..."
Ji Ruan's hand holding the letter paper froze, as if he had no parents.
"I'll go." Gu Xiuyi's voice rang out.
They both looked over there.
Gu Xiuyi took the cup of warm water and put it into Ji Ruan's hand, and said calmly: "Many alumni will go to the open day, and I have also received an invitation letter.
