Chapter 7

Bai Li stared blankly, letting her paw pads be pinched, not reacting for a long time.

Not long after.

When the driver arrived at the Xie family's house, Xie Chen held the sleeping white kitten in his arms and got out of the car.

"Sir, you're back."

The butler, who always waited for Xie Chen at home, unexpectedly came to the door, his eyes filled with anticipation.

Of course, Xie Chen was very clear-headed and knew that this expectation was not for him.

Sure enough, before he could even step forward, the butler blurted out, "Where's the kitten? After receiving your WeChat message, I casually made some cat food at home. I don't know if the kitten will be able to eat it."

Xie Chen raised his eyes and glanced at the butler, whose old face was filled with excitement, showing no intention of handing over the kitten.

He said calmly, "The cat is asleep."

The housekeeper eagerly chimed in, "Then give him to me, I'll take him back to his cat bed to sleep."

The cat bed was a deluxe version that the housekeeper bought; it even had a soft blanket inside—it was incredibly exquisite.

Xie Chen felt the soft, chubby little kitten in his palm and didn't intend to give it to her right now.

"He's a bit dirty, I'll take him to get a bath."

In order to pet the cat a little longer, Xie Chen simply changed the subject and said he was going to give the cat a bath.

Uncle Xie: "..."

Uncle Xie listened to these words in a daze, unable to believe that his husband could say such a thing.

Xie Chen left those words behind, walked past him, and went straight into his house.

A moment later.

Uncle Xie looked at the kitten that his husband had brought into the bedroom, his expression and even his tone were sour.

"Didn't the gentleman say he would bring the kittens back for me to raise? Why is he now taking on the task of bathing them himself?"

The cat house and food he prepared never brought back any kittens.

This is absolutely heartbreaking!

Right now, in the bedroom.

Xie Chen lowered his eyes and looked at the little kitten who had curled up into a ball after falling asleep, his gaze lingering on its fur for a few seconds.

"Wake up."

He shook the round, chubby kitten ball, his voice devoid of emotion: "Take a bath before you sleep."

Bai Li was exhausted and dizzy from drinking goat milk. When Xie Chen shook her awake, her beautiful amber eyes were wet and she looked like she was about to cry.

Xie Chen's heart tightened, and he was about to say something when Bai Li, supporting herself on his palm, shakily sat up.

"Meow?"

Do you want to take a shower?

Bai Li caught those words just now and looked up with her round face to ask.

Xie Chen hummed in agreement: "Yes, I need to wash."

He's a germaphobe. Although the kitten was adorable, its round body had already gotten dirty from being outside. The fact that he'd been able to hold it until now was already a huge overreaction.

Now that we're home, we can't let the little guy get dirty again.

Bai Li nodded dazedly, and was then led into the bathroom by Xie Chen.

The bathtub was big enough to be a swimming pool for the tiny kitten, so Xie Chen didn't put him in the bathtub, but instead took a water basin of a suitable size.

Warm water was added to the basin.

Cats love playing in water, but they are also afraid of water. Generally, no kitten will voluntarily jump into the water to take a bath.

Although Bai Li is not an ordinary kitten, she is still a little afraid of taking a bath.

"Meow, meow."

Can you help me?

The clear, youthful voice reached Xie Chen's ears, prompting him to give a soft "hmm" in agreement.

In the unfamiliar basin of water, Bai Li hesitated to reach out. He held onto Xie Chen's two fingers, his whole body still clinging to Xie Chen's hand.

After hanging there for a while, the little kitten still didn't move its butt.

Xie Chen reminded him, "The water's getting cold."

Bai Li shook her head: "Meow."

I see.

After Bai Li finished meowing, he glanced at the basin full of water and tried to mentally prepare himself. After a while, he made up his mind, closed his eyes, and suddenly released his grip on Xie Chen's paw.

"Thud—"

The kitten bravely jumped into the water like a ball, splashing water that coldly slapped Xie Chen's face.

Xie Chen: "..."

If it were anyone else, they would probably be dead on the spot.

Xie Chen closed his eyes, pulled out a tissue to wipe the water droplets off his face, and at the same time, the image of the little kitten being a "good person" kept replaying in his mind.

I am a good person. I am a good person.

Xie Chen calmly reassured himself several times before he managed to maintain his "good guy" persona.

Unaware that she had done something wrong, Bai Li fell into the basin of water and was struggling to stay afloat.

"Meow!!!"

Help me!

Xie Chen's brow twitched from the noise, and he quickly lifted the soaking wet kitten to a sitting position.

Bai Li grabbed his hand, so panicked that she refused to let go.

Xie Chen could tell he was frightened, so he let him hold him while he used his other hand to pour water on him and start washing him.

The water temperature is comfortable, and the basin isn't crowded.

Bai Li sat in the water, and her heart, which had been pounding wildly, gradually calmed down.

"Meow meow".

Bai Li, with her head still wet from the water, thanked them earnestly.

Xie Chen was used to being friend-zoned, so he didn't respond to the thank you. Instead, he gently washed the slightly dirty kitten clean, bit by bit.

After taking a shower, before Bai Li was even taken to have her fur dried, she started shaking her fur wildly on her own.

Xie Chen, who was caught in the crossfire again, wiped his face and said with a cold look in his eyes: "Your 'good guy' card is about to expire."

Bai Li blinked her beautiful, wet eyes and tilted her head innocently: "Meow?"

What did you say.

Xie Chen met his gaze for a few seconds and said calmly, "Congratulations, you have successfully renewed your card."

He can still be a good person for a little while longer.

Bai Li was full of questions, not knowing what Xie Chen meant, and Xie Chen didn't intend to explain.

There was a hairdryer in the bathroom. Xie Chen turned on the hot air and blew it from head to toe onto the little kitten in front of him.

I don't know how much time passed.

Bai Li stood on the table, looking at herself in the mirror from left to right.

"Meow!"

I look so good!

Bai Li rubbed her face with her paws, looked at the clean little kitten in the mirror, and secretly praised herself.

When he was on the mountain, his older siblings and elders would praise him every day, saying he was good-looking and cute. Even when he ate too much, they would praise him for having a good appetite.

In short, although Bai Li never grew up, wasn't very bright, had a terrible memory, and was even a bit face-blind, there's no doubt that he grew up surrounded by love.

This kitten, growing up surrounded by love, also has a heart full of love for others.

Xie Chen placed him on the bedroom table to look in the mirror, while he went to take a shower.

He got splashed with a lot of water when he was washing the cat, and it's really not easy for him to have endured it until now.

When Xie Chen came out after taking a shower, the little kitten that had been looking in the mirror on the table was gone.

He tied his pajamas, glanced around the bedroom, and finally fixed his gaze on the large bed.

Right now, a little bulge has appeared in the center of the blankets that have been laid out on the bed.

Xie Chen walked over in a few steps, lifted the blanket, and a little kitten with its eyes closed, paws outstretched, and soft belly exposed came into view.

The kitten was sleeping soundly, but no one knew what it was dreaming about. Right under Xie Chen's nose, its paws twitched a few times.

Xie Chen sat down and pinched his paws. The paws were pink and tender, like blooming plum blossoms.

Under the bright light, Xie Chen rubbed the kitten's paws for a while. Then, when there was a knock on the bedroom door, he got up and handed the kitten to the butler standing at the door.

No one ever stays in his bedroom. In fact, it's more accurate to say that no one who can breathe can spend the night in his room except for him.

The butler knew this rule, so even though Xie Chen personally bathed the kitten, he knew that the kitten needed to be taken away when it was time to go to bed.

Night fell.

The kitten, moved while asleep, now sleeps in a luxurious cat bed, sheltered from the wind and rain.

Bai Li didn't sleep for long. When she opened her eyes, it was pitch black all around her.

"Meow?"

He climbed out of the cat's bed and stood there for a while before slowly coming to his senses.

This is no longer the bedroom.

Bai Li instinctively wanted to find the master, as he hadn't even opened his eyes to see the butler yet. To him, the only familiar person here was the master.

Feeling flustered in this unfamiliar place, Bai Li felt a sense of unease.

He sniffed, trying to discern the familiar scent of his master in the darkness.

The villa was shrouded in night.

Bai Li, on his little paws, groped his way around in the dark. After wandering around for a long time, his small figure stopped in front of a door.

A sliver of dim light peeked through the door, accompanied by the urgent sound of musical instruments playing.

The sound was sometimes as beautiful as celestial music, and sometimes it abruptly broke off like a sob.

Bai Li stood outside listening blankly. He could vaguely tell that the person playing the instrument wasn't playing a piece, but rather venting something.

The door wasn't closed properly.

Bai Li tiptoed and peered through the crack in the door.

He was stunned when he saw it.

"Meow."

Yes, sir.

He meowed very softly, his meow carrying a hint of bewilderment.

Inside the door, the floor was piled with various musical instruments. The gentleman, dressed in pajamas and barefoot, sat casually among the instruments, his posture resembling that of a domineering king.

He can play every musical instrument, and each instrument, when played individually, can be played beautifully.

What made Bai Li feel helpless was not his strange late-night performance, but the many small pills beside him and at his feet.

medicine.

Bai Li knew that he had taken a lot of medicine while he was on the mountain.

Grandpa said that taking too much medicine is bad; if you take an overdose, you could even die.

Bai Li looked at the scattered pills on the ground, then at the rather abnormal gentleman, and her amber eyes filled with tears.

"Meow, meow."

Bai Li couldn't bear to let such a good gentleman die! He smashed his head through the door and launched himself out like a small cannonball.

Just as Xie Chen was about to step on the drum, his foot was suddenly grabbed by something.

He looked down and his gaze met that of the person who had just arrived.

Bai Li hugged Xie Chen's ankle tightly, her chubby little body sitting on his cold feet.

"Meow!"

Don't die!

Bai Li looked at him with teary eyes, her claws clenched, her heavy buttocks pressing down on him, as if she wanted to use that weight to make him unable to move before she felt at ease.

Xie Chen's eyelids twitched as he listened to the man's tearful voice.

Death? Who said he was going to die?

He has always believed that anyone who displeases him should die.
