Chapter 3 A Bullet
"Ah Sui, how are you?"
"It's okay, Mom, I just accidentally fell."
The first wife strode into the house, put her son's arm on her shoulder, and forcefully dragged him up from the ground.
She wasn't very strong, but fortunately, Lou Yansui was a slender young man. Although he couldn't use his legs, he managed to lie back on the bed with the help of his arms.
The first wife covered him with the blanket before looking at the little dumpling sitting on the ground.
"Mao Mao, what are you doing here?"
"I heard a really loud noise." Mao Mao gestured with her hand in a big circle: "When I came over, I saw my brother."
While her mother was packing, Mao Mao ran out to play and unknowingly wandered into the vicinity. She happened to be playing nearby when Lou Yan Sui fell.
The first wife picked her up from the ground and brushed the dust off her body.
What were you talking about just now?
"Brother said chocolate, cream cake, and ice cream..." Mao Mao repeated it word for word, her lips glistening.
First wife: "Is that all?"
"Yes!"
The first wife looked at the child in surprise, examining her chubby little face again and again, trying to discern something different.
No one understood better than her how incredible the scene she had just witnessed was.
Lou Yansui is the fourth young master of the Lou family, and he is fifteen years old this year.
A year ago, he was kidnapped while traveling and was maliciously tortured by the bandits for a day and a night. When Lou Dashuai rescued him, he was covered in injuries, and his hands and feet had been cruelly broken by the bandits. He was in the hospital for several days before he was saved.
Although he survived, his hands and feet were left with serious aftereffects. At first, he even needed to be fed. It took a long time for his hands to regain mobility.
But his legs could no longer support him.
The long day and night of torture destroyed his will. After being rescued, he attempted suicide several times, and Commander Lou had to send people to watch over him day and night to prevent him from taking his own life.
He survived, but was rendered useless, locking himself in his room every day.
The first wife couldn't remember the last time she had seen his smiling face.
No one was more heartbroken than her as she watched her once spirited youngest son become dejected and depressed.
"Gurgle—"
Hearing her stomach growl, Mao Mao instinctively hugged her round little belly.
She patted its little belly soothingly, trying to calm it down.
But she soon realized that the sound wasn't coming from her stomach, but from above her head. Her brother was hungry.
Lou Yansui blushed slightly: "Mom, I'm hungry."
"Okay, I'll have someone get you some food," the first wife said with a smile.
The maid quickly brought over a tray of food, and the delicious aroma made Mao Mao's mouth water.
There was a group focused on creating a lively dining atmosphere, and Lou Yansui ate a little more than usual.
After Lou Yansui rested, the First Madam took Mao Mao's hand and led her out.
"Mao Mao, could you come and talk to your brother more often?"
"Sure!" Mao Mao raised her chubby chin and said confidently, "My mother says I talk a lot!"
The first wife smiled and said, "If you play with your brother, I'll buy you whatever you want to eat, like chocolate or cream cake, okay?"
What? !
Wow, what a great thing!
...
At dusk, Commander Lou returned home.
As soon as he entered the door, without even taking off his coat, he eagerly asked, "Has Mao Mao arrived yet?"
The adjutant walked behind, looking at him with curiosity.
When the new concubine entered the house, the warlord asked first where a little baby was.
A fluffy little head popped out from behind the reception room, "Uncle Lou!"
"Hey!" Lou Dashuai immediately beamed and opened his arms to her: "Mao Mao, come and let Uncle give you a hug."
Mao Mao also raised her hand and happily ran towards him.
Lou Dashuai was in his prime, with broad shoulders and none of the potbellies of other middle-aged men; his body was as imposing and strong as a mountain. He easily lifted Mao Mao above his head and spun her around, rubbing his beard against her soft cheek.
Mao Mao giggled as she was being rubbed, "It tickles, it tickles!"
"Little Mao Mao, have you missed your uncle?"
"Yes, I do!" Mao Mao asked with concern, "Uncle Lou, is your injury healed? Does your stomach still hurt?"
Lou Dashuai said with a smile, "It's alright, it doesn't hurt anymore."
"By the way," Lou Dashuai said, his face turning serious, "Now that you've entered my home, you're my daughter. You can't call me uncle; you have to call me dad."
Mao Mao immediately remembered.
Her mother had told her about this, but Mao Mao had forgotten.
She crisply changed her address: "Dad."
Lou Dashuai grinned again, nuzzling her face with his beard, "Oh, Mao Mao, my good daughter!"
Outside the door, another young man in military uniform strode in.
He looked very much like Commander Lou, only much younger, without a beard, with long, straight eyebrows, handsome features, and a tall, upright posture. He seemed somewhat familiar at first glance, and Mao Mao stared at him intently.
The maid called out, "Young Master."
Lou Fengju quickly noticed the little glance he was being given.
He glanced around and saw a child being lovingly held in his father's arms. He raised an eyebrow and asked, "Dad, where did this child come from?"
Lou Dashuai introduced her to him with a smile: "This is Mao Mao, whom I told you about. She will be your sister from now on."
"It's her?"
Lou Fengju took a few more glances at him.
Not long ago, Lou Dashuai was attacked. During the recounting of that attack, Lou Dashuai mentioned several times that he had met a cute little girl while in hiding.
The child is indeed adorable, with round, dark eyes and cheeks so tender they seem to burst with moisture if you pinch them, like a cream puff. The family already has a bunch of hard, smelly younger brothers; this is the first time they've had a sweet, soft little sister.
Mao Mao gave him a sweet smile: "Brother."
Lou Feng was amused.
Putting everything else aside, that "brother" really sounds nice.
"Since you call me brother, I won't let you call me that for nothing."
He felt around in his uniform pockets and pulled out a bullet.
The bullet wasn't big; it fit perfectly in Mao Mao's small hand. She looked at the hard object in her hand, puzzled: "What's this?"
Lou Fengju said with a sly smile, "Here you go. If anyone dares to mess with you in the future, I'll shoot them dead for you."
Mao Mao was completely confused.
However, she happily thanked her brother for the gift and carefully put it in the bag that had contained biscuits during the day. When she saw her mother at dinner, she took it out to show her.
"My brother gave it to me!"
A bullet flashing with a cold light startled Xia Xiaoxiang and the others.
"Quick, quick, put it away!" Xia Xiaoxiang exclaimed, "That scared me to death!"
Mao Mao obediently put it back in her pocket.
She was just a child and didn't understand the weight of the promise this bullet carried, but the adults did.
Apart from Lou Dashuai and Lou Fengju, the others at the table looked at each other, their eyes filled with shock.
The third concubine, in particular, had ridiculed the mother and daughter during the day, but unexpectedly, the marshal and the young marshal were very fond of this little girl.
The third concubine stared at Mao Mao for a long time, watching her eat with gusto, and then accidentally choked on her soup.
Is this little kid capable of bewitching people?
Otherwise, how could she be so charming?
Xia Xiaoxiang smiled secretly.
Others might not know, but Xia Xiaoxiang did—her Mao Mao was a little lucky star!
Otherwise, out of so many people in Haicheng, why was it she who saved Commander Lou's life?
