Chapter 9 Third Brother's Thank You Gift
"Mao Mao! Mao Mao!"
Lou Hongjian got off the rickshaw carrying large and small bags and rushed into the white Western-style building like a whirlwind.
His face was beaming with a smile, and his neatly combed hair fell loose from his temples. He didn't bother to groom himself, only to add to his dashing appearance.
He searched the first floor but couldn't find anyone. Instead, several ladies were attracted by the noise he made.
The first wife asked, "Ah Hong, what's wrong?"
"You bought so much stuff?"
Lou Hongjian called out "Mom!" and, without answering her, pressed, "Where's Mao Mao? Where is she?"
First wife: "Mao Mao should be playing with Asui."
Lou Hongjian carried bags full of them in both hands and strode upstairs.
"Mao Mao, look what your brother bought for you!"
His figure disappeared like a whirlwind at the top of the stairs.
The first wife turned and exchanged glances with the other concubines, utterly puzzled: "What's wrong with him? Why is he suddenly so close to Mao Mao?"
The other wives all shook their heads.
Second floor.
Mao Mao was leaning against her fourth brother, listening to him read her a fairy tale.
Lou Yansui pointed to the characters above and taught her, "This character is pronounced Lou, it's my surname..."
Before they could finish speaking, the door was kicked open, and before they could react, a pile of bags rained down from above, burying the two of them.
The bed was covered with packaging bags of all sizes. When Mao Mao was dug out of the mountain of packaging bags, she was dizzy and could only see a magnified handsome face.
Lou Hongjian smiled, his peach blossom eyes crinkling, and cupped his younger sister's soft little face, giving her a big kiss on both sides.
Two loud "pop!" sounds startled Mao Mao!
"Third Brother, what are you doing?!" Lou Yansui quickly snatched his sister back, protectively holding her in his arms: "Why did you suddenly scare me?"
"Scary?"
Lou Hongjian raised an eyebrow, casually pulled over a bag, and shook out a pretty little dress.
A little dress with lace trim and several layers in the skirt; it's a children's style.
He held the princess dress up against Mao Mao and said proudly, "Look at what I bought for Mao Mao, isn't it pretty? My little sister is so cute, when she's dressed up, she's just as good as those princesses that foreigners talk about."
Lou Yansui looked at him suspiciously: "Is this for Mao Mao?"
Mao Mao stared blankly, a little taken aback: "For me?"
"These are for you, all of them are for you." Lou Hongjian pushed all the bags on the bed towards her.
"Give it all to me?"
"all!"
Lou Hongjian waved his hand generously and said, "If that's not enough, I'll take you out to buy more!"
Mao Mao's mouth dropped open, overwhelmed by so many surprises falling from the sky; her mind couldn't process it all.
Looking at her chubby little face and bewildered expression, Lou Hongjian felt a strong urge to mate.
His sister is the cutest sister in the world!
Thinking this, he was about to lean closer when a hand reached out from the side and pushed his face away.
Lou Yansui held his sister tightly, looking at him with the same wary gaze one would give a thug: "Third brother, speak properly, don't take advantage of Mao Mao."
"What do you mean by taking advantage?" Lou Hongjian rolled his eyes at him, annoyed. "This is a friendly gesture. In France, everyone kisses each other on the cheek."
Lou Yansui didn't believe it.
Judging from Third Brother's excited expression, he almost bit off Mao Mao's face with that bite.
He used his sleeve to wipe the drool off Mao Mao's face and asked warily, "Why are you suddenly being so nice to Mao Mao?"
Mentioning this made Lou Hongjian's smile even brighter.
People are in high spirits when they have good news, and he was beaming with joy: "Of course, I'm doing this to thank Mao Mao."
Lou Yansui: "Thank you, Mao Mao?"
"Thank me?" Mao Mao said, confused. "I didn't do anything."
"Of course there is!" Lou Hongjian took her small hand in his and kissed it like a knight. He looked up and smiled, his peach blossom eyes dazzlingly charming. "Your little lucky hand, may it bring you wealth."
"Get rich?"
"So your brother kept his word and bought you lots of pretty dresses."
Besides pretty princess dresses, there were also little leather shoes, toys, and countless other items.
He ransacked the department store; the bed was covered in packaging bags, all of them thank-you gifts he had bought for her.
Lou Hongjian took out the gifts to show her. When she received one of them, Mao Mao, who had been looking confused, suddenly perked up, sat up straight, and looked eager.
"This?" Lou Hongjian looked down.
It was a beautifully packaged box of cookies, with Western landscapes printed on the tin.
"This is delicious," Mao Mao said happily. "My aunt gave me some before."
The "big mom" she was referring to was the first wife.
Lou Hongjian: "You like this?"
Mao Mao's lips glistened as she nodded vigorously, "Mmm-hmm!"
Lou Hongjian looked at the cookies, then at her, and quickly understood her preferences.
He smiled and said, "You like desserts, so how about I take you to a Western restaurant for cream cake? Have you ever had cream cake before?"
Mao Mao shook her head, then nodded as if she had thought of something. Her little head bobbed back and forth.
She'd never eaten it, but she'd heard of it!
I heard it from my fourth brother.
Fourth Brother said that the Western restaurant had cream cakes, milk pudding, and lots of other delicious things. He also said that he would take her there to eat sometime in the future.
Lou Hongjian asked with a smile, "Does Mao Mao want to eat?"
Mao Mao answered loudly, "Mao Mao wants to eat!"
"How about your brother takes you to eat?"
"good!!"
Before Lou Yansui could react, his younger sister, whom he was holding, was taken away by his third brother.
He instinctively reached out to stop him, but while his upper body leaned forward, his lower body did not cooperate as he had expected, remaining completely still.
His hand fell, finally only gripping the blanket tightly. "Third Brother, where are you taking Mao Mao?"
"I'm taking Mao Mao to eat cream cake." Lou Hongjian hefted his little sister in his arms, a little surprised: "Huh? Why is she so heavy?"
He said a lady's weight was not in accordance with a gentleman's etiquette, but fortunately his three-year-old sister didn't seem to care. At that moment, all that was left on her chubby little face was her longing for the cream cake.
Lou Yansui: "Mao Mao..."
"Ah Sui, do you want some cake too?" Lou Hongjian, with the demeanor of an elder brother, replied, "It's alright, I'll pack some up and bring it back for you."
Lou Yansui: "..."
He didn't want to eat cake.
But he couldn't bring himself to say it.
She could only watch helplessly as her third brother carried Mao Mao away, their shadows drifting away like the wind.
He turned to look at the window of the room.
Sunlight streamed through the white gauze curtains into the room, partially revealing the view behind them. The azure sky and lush greenery were faintly visible, and the wind was still, occasionally blowing out glimpses of the scenery.
A faint, childlike laughter seemed to drift in from outside the open window, fading away as they went outside.
Lou Yansui looked down at her motionless legs.
He also really wanted to take Mao Mao to a Western restaurant.
