"I want the dream walker." Shaman Gaas answered without any hesitation.
"If... and only if you can establish the fact that a dream walker actually exists and was the culprit of what happened to my son... you do know that I wouldn’t give you the dream walker, right?"
"And you think you have the ability to battle against one?"
Amore blinked. Dream walkers were one of the rarest gifts. Most of them... were also very powerful witches. "My son’s soul... is no longer inside his body, Shaman. Dk you really think I would let the dream walker roam freely after what happened?"
"I will help the dream walker get your son’s soul back. In fact... the dream walker— if strong enough— could even call out the soul of the people who departed long ago. As long as their physical body is still intact. You do understand... what I mean, right?"
"You— " Of course she understood. She kept that woman’s body just to keep her son happy! "It seems that I can not hide anything from the Shaman." It seems that the rumor about this eccentric Shaman was right. Shaman Gaas can talk not only to animals but also... to spirits and souls.
A witch like this was just as rare as a dream walker!
If she could convince the man to stay inside her coven...
"Oh... please... stop thinking about it, Amore.’’ Shaman Gaas sighed. "And here I thought... you are some reliable mother who would do everything for her son. I guess I was wrong."
"Where are you going?" Amore panicked when the old man got up. "I can let you see Romeo..."
Shaman Gaas stopped walking, his wizened face turned towards Amore.
"Just let me keep the dream walker," Amore said.
Surprisingly, Shaman Gaas nodded. "Only if... it was really done by a dream walker. At first, I thought this could be the dream walker’s work. However, seeing your greed and malice... I understand that you have a lot of enemies out there. People hate you."
"In this world... women who are able to achieve power are always seen as ruthless and greedy." Amore proudly said. She might not be a good mother but she loved her son despite not being with him when he was growing up. And yes. She was ruthless and greedy. She had no conscience. But everything was different when it came to her son.
"I would fight against the world just to save my son... Shaman," she added. "So don’t you ever... think that I love my son less just because I am sitting at the top of the food chain."
Shaman Gaas snorted. "Women and their ego."
"You— "
"Lead the way."
Amore squinted but said nothing as she lead the older man towards the underground floor where Romeo was located.
"He looks... worse than what I heard." Shaman Gaas said. "He stopped eating, sleeping, and drinking. Yet he still managed to kill himself. How?" He eyed the bandage on Romeo’s arm. "How?"
"He ... cut his own wrist."
"But how?" the old man put both of his hands behind his back as he eyed the large tubes that were connected to Romeo’s body. "He doesn’t have the strength to do that."
"You think..."
"Was he... really awake when he killed himself?" Shaman Gaas asked.
"I— he was. His eyes were open."
"That does not mean he was awake."
"You think he was... having a dream?"
"I am not certain. Sadly, we have no way of knowing if he was really awake when that happened. But I suspect he might be dreaming when he did it."
"So... was it really a dream walker?"
Shaman Gaas shook his head. "There are no signs of a dream walker either."
"What signs are you looking for?"
"When was the last time he had a nightmare?"
"I— "
"As long as a dream walker accessed his head in the past week... I would see signs of it."
"He had been like this for more than two weeks now."
"If it was indeed a dream walker. It means that he or she... completely stopped visiting Romeo’s dreams when she sensed that Romeo had lost his mind. What a ruthless one."
"What do you mean?"
"Whoever did it... might have done it for fun."
"What?"
"Right. I believe they might have targeted your son randomly or because... Your son did something sinister. Most dream walkers in the past did that to torture sinners. They did it to torture people who haven’t been punished for their sins."
"Are you saying that Romeo died because... someone just played a prank on him?"
"Oh. Your son’s head was already weak. He lost his wife and you... played into his fantasy. Instead of helping him to move on... you actually excavated his wife’s body, preserved her, and covered for the sins that he committed."
"You—" For the first time since seeing the man, Amore’s irises shook. She closed her hands and balled them into tight fists.
"This is... karma."
She heard the old man mutter.
"Where are you going?"
"Leaving... I see no traces of a dream walker. I cannot sense whoever did it." Shaman Gaas shrugged. "You have my condolences, Amore."
"You— "
"You can preserve the body..." Shaman Gaas stopped walking but he didn’t turn toward her. "But not the soul. What would you make of a body without a soul?" he asked.
.....
Shaman Gaas pursed his lips as he walked out of the gates of Amore’s mansion. He looked towards the sky and then let out a sigh.
A dream walker.
In America nonetheless.
"Ah... what should I do now?" he mumbled, his old body shivering. He only had a few years more to live. And another dream walker appeared before him. An untrained dream walker at that!
He eyed the mansion.
A petty dream walker who doesn’t even understand how to use their abilities.
"If you wanted to make someone suffer... you should have captured their souls and sent them in the nightmare realm. What a newbie." He mumbled as he made his way towards... Alaska.
