AMORE
Amore’s face was as pale as a piece of paper as she stared at her son’s body. Romeo had just tried to kill himself a few minutes ago. Luckily, the doctors were able to revive him.
Right now, he was in a coma but the doctors told her to start accepting the fact that Romeo might leave her anytime soon.
The man lost too much blood, the doctors say. Moreover, Romeo lost the will to live.
His brain might survive but his body might not. They could, of course, keep him alive using machines but... would Amore really watch his son suffer like that?
Amore clenched his hands. Until now, they weren’t able to find the meaning behind those texts. She needed to know. And she needed to know now.
"Madam... Shaman Gaas from Egypt just arrived."
"Shaman Gaas?" the well-known Shaman who always declined her invitation? The old man’s arrival immediately gave her a little spark of hope. Shamans were as powerful as priestesses. However, their gifts were considered special. Most Shamans could read the stars and of course, communicate with animals.
They live alone and most of them don’t really talk to other witches.
"Take me to him!" Priestess Amore immediately got up and followed her assistant.
Soon, she arrived in the drawing-room of the mansion where an old man wearing all black clothes sat. He looked older than the rumors. Yet, his eyes looked energetic and maybe even dangerous.
"Priestess Amore..."
Amore froze when she heard the older man’s voice. What could have happened? Shaman Gaas was well known because he was very arrogant and doesn’t like to associate with other witches. He would never greet a witch first.
"Shaman..." Amore said as she composed herself. No. This isn’t the time to act timid. Especially not in front of a Shaman as powerful as Gaas. "I— I am surprised to see you here."
"I didn’t come because I wanted to." Shaman Gaas’s words felt like a sharp knife against Amore’s heart.
"What do you— "
"Your son... how is he?" The expression on the man’s face didn’t change. He was calmly sitting there but for some reason, Amore felt like he was larger.
It was as if... she was in front of a large statue.
Sweat trickled down her back.
"Shaman... my son..." Amore gulped. Did the Shaman discover the experiments that Romeo did? That would be a big problem.
"He tried to kill himself, no?"
"Ah?" Amore tried to hide the news from her fellow witches simply because she didn’t want her enemies to target her son. She smiled at the old man as she sat opposite him. Then she inhaled. The smell of sweet tea filled the room. "I guess I cannot hide anything from you Shaman."
Shaman Gaas snorted. "Take me to see him."
"What?"
"Do you want me to repeat my words?"
"With all due respect Shaman, I cannot do that."
"Why?"
"My son is fighting for his life."
"And he would die soon." Shaman Gaas said. "His soul is no longer here... Amore. But you already know that, don’t you?"
"I— " For a few seconds, helplessness flashed in Amore’s eyes. "That is true."
Shaman Gaas observed her for a few seconds. "He is no longer in this plane and you are still holding on to him... if the people that you offended would come to know this..."
"Are you threatening me Shaman?" Amore hissed. "I may be weaker than you but I wouldn’t let you out of this mansion if you say a word about my son again!"
"Look at you baring your fangs..." the old man snorted. "I only came here to see your son’s body. What would seeing a soulless body do to you?"
"What would seeing a soulless body give you?" Amore countered. "I wouldn’t let you see him if... you will not properly state the reason why you want to see him."
Shaman Gaas smirked. "I can see him... anytime I want to, Amore."
"But you still chose to ask for my permission." Amore lifted her chin. A Shaman as powerful as him could easily sneak into Romeo’s room. But he was here... talking to her.
This only means one thing.
The Shaman needed something.
"Have you heard... of dream walkers?" Shaman Gaas said.
"Dream walkers?"
"Yes. They could open planes... They could walk in your dreams and..."
"They don’t exist," Amore said before her expression slowly changed. "Are you saying that...a dream walker did this?"
"I am not sure."
"Dream walkers haven’t existed for centuries."
"Do you really think so?"
"What?"
"Dreamwalkers... were not recorded in our history books because they refuse to show their abilities. Now dream walking... is a very special ability that one could easily hide. And trust me... they could hide very well." Shaman Gaas said.
"But... a dream walker?" Amore frowned. It might sound impossible at first but now that she thought about it, Romeo started having nightmares. Before he stopped sleeping.
Of course, there was also the possibility that Shaman Gaas was only making things up because of the ancient texts that Romeo bought.
In fact, Amore thought that the Shaman was here for the texts. And she was already prepared to part ways with those texts. Of course, she wanted him to heal his son first.
"Dream walkers are also known as plane walkers." Shaman Gaas stated. "They can access planes, realms. They can walk into the nightmare realm or the... planes for the souls."
"You mean...."
"I want to see your son." Shaman Gaas said. "I want to make sure if the one who did this to him was indeed a dream walker."
"Shaman Gaas... I believe you are underestimating me and my intelligence." Amore said. "You cannot just walk in here and ask to see my son. You cannot just walk in here and... tell me some things that don’t even exist anymore. Did you really think I am that dumb?"
Shaman Gaas smirked.
Seeing this, Amore added, "What’s in it for you? I refuse to believe that you would suddenly show kindness to a stranger just because... of dream walkers. So... what do you stand to gain from all of this?"
