"I don’t know you," Ava said. "I don’t understand why you think you can just barge into my life and become my teacher." Of course, she couldn’t risk exposing Matthew and her secrets to other witches.
While she wanted to learn from the old man, the fact that she was a Lycan’s mate could complicate everything. It would be hard to explain that. And she couldn’t just trust anyone around her.
"So you ... refuse to become my student."
Ava nodded and just as expected, the old man’s face darkened.
"Can you tell me why? Again?"
Ava gulped.
"Why would my student explain anything to you? Gaas?"
"Hm?" Shaman Gaas looked to his left. Seeing Baba, he scoffed. "So it is you."
"Of course it is me. Do you think anyone could just teach her?"
"Exactly my point. So... I am wondering how were you able to teach someone like her? Was it because of the Lycan? Should I just kill him?"
"Quit throwing a tantrum Gaas and leave my people alone!" Baba was wearing a brown coat. Her hair was tied in an elegant bun and there was a smile on her gentle face. However, her venomous eyes seemed like sharp daggers.
"Your people?" the old man gasped. "You? You actually have your own people Babaylan?"
"You— Do not call me that name!"
"Why?" Shaman Gaas smirked. "Perhaps they don’t know— "
"If you want to fight... then I will give you a fight old man! Did you really think I would back down?"
"Oh?"
"Alright... we need to leave this place. People are now looking at us" Ava said. She could feel everyone’s eyes on them. Everyone including some shifters. She gestured towards Matthew.
"Let’s go to your mansion..."
.....
One hour later
"I already told you! You can’t be her teacher!" Baba glowered at Shaman Gaas. "How could a barbaric like you teach her? She’s already powerful and your teaching would surely— "
"Exactly! I am powerful and she’s powerful! We were made to become a teacher and a student!"
"Oh please Gaas, you are old enough to know consent. She already said no. You can’t force her."
Shaman Gaas frowned. "Then how about... I kill you."
"You say this every time we see each other but until now I am still alive, old man." Baba crossed her arms across her chest. She lifted her head as if silently challenging the old man.
"Then just tell her to accept me as a teacher."
"Why would I do that?"
"Because only I can teach her how to use her abilities!"
"Is that so?" Baba asked.
"Yes," the old man said and looked at Ava who was sitting next to Matthew. "I can teach you everything about your gifts. I can even create a spell or a talisman to hide it from other powerful witches. Even from someone like me. I am confident that I could hide your ability and— "
"Ha? You want to bribe her?" Baba snorted. She waved her hand. "Ava... these are the things that I made for you. The necklace will protect you from any illusions. The bracelet will protect you from a curse and— "
"I have something that could make you invisible in a few minutes!" Shaman Gaas said. "I will give it to you and give you potions... whatever you want. As long as you agree to kick this woman out of this mansion and renounce her!"
"How dare you!" Baba uttered. "How could you even mention that in front of me?"
"Do I really look like I care about your emotions Babaylan?" Shaman Gaas said. "I already told you. I am not leaving until she agrees to become my student!"
Ava could only scratch the back of her head. She looked at Matthew who was also staring at the two seniors in front of them. He must have felt her gaze as he turned his head towards her. Then he smiled and held her hand.
"Aha! So you are indeed hiding something!" Shaman Gaas said. "That’s why she won’t agree to become my— What is it?" Shaman Gaas suddenly approached Ava. "What else are you hiding? Hmmm?"
"Gaas... stay away from her."
Of course, Shaman Gaas ignored Baba’s warnings.
"Eh? What is this?"
Ava immediately flinched when the old man finally looked at Matthew and then back to her.
"What is this?"
Silence blanketed the room.
"You— You and him— what kind of bond is this?"
"A slavery bond. She’s his slave." ƒrēewebnovel.com
"Ah, do you really think I am a fool?" Shaman Gaas squinted at Matthew. "A strong Lycan who is going to become the future King of the Lycans." Then he looked at Ava. "A strong witch. The strongest in her generation. And a mysterious bond."
"Gaas..." Baba held the old man’s arm. "Ava isn’t going to let you teach her. No matter what— "
"And an old witch who is trying to distract me." Shaman Gaas continued. "Did you really think you could fool me?"
"Gaas!"
"What kind of bond is this? I have never seen it before!"
Baba pursed her lips. The woman looked like she had just swallowed a lemon rind. She looked at Matthew and then towards Ava. "We can trust him," she said. "He might be difficult to talk to but... we can trust him." When the two didn’t answer her, Baba continued. "I would trust Gaas with my life."
"Eh? What is happening now?" Shaman Gaas asked.
"Alright," Ava said while staring at Baba. "It’s alright."
Baba didn’t waste any time after she got Ava’s attention. She immediately told the old man that they are going to take a walk.
For a few seconds, Shaman Gaas hesitated before he agreed. And the two of them teleported somewhere as they disappeared from their places in front of Ava and Matthew.
...
Outskirts of Yakutia in Russia.
After a few minutes of argument about the fact that Baba teleported him somewhere even colder than Alaska, Shaman Gaas finally listened to Baba’s words.
"Mate? Are you— "
"You’ve seen the bond. You’ve felt it. It’s strong and it’s definitely not a slavery bond."
Shaman Gaas looked like he was in a daze. "So you mean to say... she survived the bite of the Lycan? The marking?"
"She did."
"That’s impossible. A witch... would die if a Lycan would try to mark her. I saw it. I— I knew an incident where a witch died after being marked by a Lycan. It’s because a witch’s magick is not compatible with Lycans. Everyone knew this! How the hell did she survive?"
"I don’t know," Baba said. "You said a witch’s blood is not compatible to... Lycan’s."
"Yes! I did experiments in the past and— "
"Were you able to confirm such a thing?"
"I did. I already told you. I have mixed... countless witches and Lycans or any shifter’s blood in the past. It’s like oil and water."
Baba pursed her lips. "So there is no way that- what about the ancient texts? I know you have read a lot of those texts. Didn’t you find anything about them?"
"The texts stated that... a witch and a Lycan could never mate. They are destined not to be with each other."
"But what if... she’s not a witch?" Baba’s question made the old man speechless.
