*BANG!*
Jude jolted up from his bed when the sound of something hard hit his wall. He immediately got up.
"Who— "
"Sit back down, Jude."
Jude froze. He closed his eyes again, unable to understand what was happening. Why was Ava here?
"Sit down... and cover yourself."
This time, Jude’s brain started working. He eyed Ava who was sitting on the one-seater couch near his bed. She was wearing an all-black coat, her hair tied up in a ponytail. She looked... serious.
"A— Ava? How did you get in here" he asked.
"I asked you to cover your dxck Jude. It’s not something to be proud of."
"You—" Realizing that he was naked, Jude grabbed a robe and immediately covered himself. "I thought you died."
"Right."
"So, why are you here?"
"I thought you were the ones looking for me," Ava said.
"You didn’t have to come to my room in the middle of the night?" Jude walked towards the bar inside his room. He grabbed a red wine. "Want one?"
When Ava didn’t answer him, he got two wine glasses and walked toward Ava. "Why are you here?" he calmly asked. Or at least, he tried to ask her calmly. He wanted to show her that he was not panicking, that he wasn’t scared. After all, he was currently inside his father’s estate in Alaska.
His father, Neil Caro was working for the Deputy Director of Operations at Trillium. Obviously, he was a big name. This means that this house was probably just as secure as Matthew Graydon’s mansion.
Not many people could come in here without alerting security.
"How much do you know about Hybrids?" Ava asked.
"I can’t answer that."
"You will... answer me."
"Why are you asking about shifters?" he asked. "We both know that is confidential information."
"I found Samuel Sutton."
Jude nodded. "I gave you the address. Of course, you will find him there."
"Who sent him there?" she asked. "It was a suicide mission."
"It’s not me."
"Was this just because... he sent me back to Alaska?"
"Look, Ava..." Jude drank his wine. "That is confidential information."
"Did you know about my brother, Jude?" As far as Ava knew, Jude visited her brother’s house at that party.
"Phil? Of course, I knew Phil."
"How?"
"I— "
"Trillium asked you to check on him every now and then?"
"Uh... yes? But that was because he’s your family."
Ava nodded.
"Where is this going, V?" he asked, confused. "If you knew that I was looking for you, you would have called me before seeing me. So... I am guessing this isn’t about the explosion?" he asked.
"I want to know about the Hybrids," Ava said, ignoring his questions.
"I told you, I can’t discuss this matter with you."
"So it was indeed the witches. They started experimenting and Trillium supported them?"
"Again, I can’t— "
*BAM!*
One of his frames fell down from the wall.
"You— What the hell are you doing?"
"Answer me, Jude. Do you know anything about the experiments?"
A sigh escaped Jude’s lips. "I swore an oath— "
"Bullshit," Ava interrupted him. With a bland expression on her face, she said, "Don’t make me use my magick, Jude. You won’t be able to fight against me."
And Jude knew she was right. It was a sad fact.
If Ava was able to infiltrate this place without breaking a sweat, then she could easily leave this place after... killing him.
"Alright, it was the witches. They started the project along with... the Keepers."
"The Keepers?"
"Yes? Then Trillium supported it."
"Why?"
"I don’t know. I didn’t ask my father or anyone else in my family about it."
"They experimented on people," Ava said.
"It was for the good of our race. Come on, V. You know how our kind, or at least my kind is decreasing. We are doing our best to try and make more of us."
"So you wanted to make shifters..."
"And we have not succeeded yet. Once everyone of them... has become a hybrid, They turn into uncontrollable, mindless killers." Jude shrugged. "I know it sounds inhumane but the survival of our kind depends on science and technology. For a witch, that might be very hard to accept. Magick can’t save shifters. We need to find our own ways."
"So, you kidnapped people then... make them your lab rats."
"They volunteered."
"Just like my brother?"
"What?"
"You know what I’m talking about, don’t you? They asked you to watch Phil because of this very reason."
"I— I didn’t know Phil was— "
"Phil is dead, Jude," Ava said.
"What?"
"He died. Because of what was in his system."
"I— "
"Who did it, Jude?"
"I already told you! I don’t know! I didn’t even know Phil was... a hybrid. We don’t usually let them go. I mean, we don’t put them back into the human world. That would be too risky."
Ava pursed her lips as if what he said just unimpressed him.
"So you just kill them?"
"We use criminals, alright? We don’t touch innocents. Do you think we are mindless fools? Did you think Trillium would be able to hide from human persecution if we touch innocents?"
"I see."
"And once that liquid would enter into a human’s system, they would act like killers for a few hours. After that, the medicine or rather the virus expires and... they die." Jude said. "So we chose people who are about to die anyway. Patients who volunteer for the program. Or at least... that’s what I know."
"Is that so..."
"I know you don’t believe me anymore. But that’s the truth. Telling you these things is already against my principles. I am doing this because of what Trillium did. Look V, I suggest you come back to us. We can talk to my father about this. Maybe he will let you bring back Samuel."
"I am already working for the Lycans."
"Lycans..." Jude snorted. "Arrogant sons of bitches."
"Well they offer a better salary plus, I don’t have to go to other countries and slaughter people," Ava said.
"Then will you tell me about that explosion?" freewёbnoνel.com
"It wasn’t me. It wasn’t GD Pharma either." Ava said. "And that’s the only thing I will say. After all, I swore an oath of secrecy too."
"With whom?"
"Myself."
Jude blinked. Then he blinked again.
As expected, talking to a lunatic like Ava wasn’t going to be easy.
