*BANG*
"Sir, I’m so sorry but we couldn’t stop him."
Jude’s eyes widened as he saw Matthew striding towards him.
"What are you— "
"Where is she?" Matthew asked in a calm yet threatening tone.
"What?"
"Where is Ava?"
Almost immediately, Jude’s face paled. He looked at one of his security. "Leave us alone!" he hissed.
"But sir..."
"I said leave us alone!"
"A— Alright!" the security immediately left, closing the door behind him.
"Where is she?" Matthew asked calmly for the third time. Which honestly frightened Jude. The man had a penchant for doing what he wanted. Stopping him would be very hard. So... why was he so calm now?
"Answer me."
Jude shivered when he saw Matthew’s eyes turn golden. He couldn’t move. He couldn’t do a thing against the man.
"Don’t make me hurt you Caro."
"She—" Jude gulped. "I don’t know."
"What do you know about her plan?" Matthew asked.
"I— I don’t know."
Matthew suddenly grabbed his collar and threw him against the wall. Powerless, Jude landed against it with a loud thud. Despite being a Werelion, Jude still felt like a large boulder hit his back.
He got up on his feet quickly, not wanting to be embarrassed.
"No need to act like this Matthew. I really don’t know anything about her plans."
"I can smell the lies Caro. Say it or I will shred your body into tiny little pieces. You know very well that the people outside of this door cannot stop me."
"I— I didn’t know she would do it." Jude said. "I told her it would be very risky. I warned her."
"What was her plan?" Matthew said before he sat on the chair which used to belong to Jude. "And where is she?"
"I don’t know."
"One more lie and you are dead."
"I swear I am telling the truth. Ava told me that she needed to get the deputy’s attention. I don’t know anything about the rest. Look... I am telling the truth. I worked with her but she didn’t tell me a single thing about her plans, alright? It’s not like she trusted me or anything."
"Oh trust me... I would have killed you a long time ago if Ava trusted you."
"Why would you kill me if she trusts me?" That didn’t make any sense.
"Answer my question."
"I really don’t know. I was here doing everything that— Look— Ava caused a big chaos. The witch hunter exists and Ava just helped us see the patterns. I was busy compiling— "
"I have no interest in anything other than her, Caro."
"Then can you tell me what happened?" Jude asked.
"Trillium took her."
"If they did then... they didn’t tell me about it."
"You are the head of this part of the country and you really are going to tell me that they didn’t tell you anything about it?" Matthew scoffed.
"That’s all I know. Ava Is very unpredictable and angry. I didn’t want to — I thought she would kill Ivy if I did something that was against her will so I didn’t ask anymore questions."
"Then what do you know about her plans?"
"She talked about destroying... Trillium.. From the inside. I thought she meant by working as Ivy? I thought she was going to continue ruining our plans and create problems for our operations. I was prepared to let her do that just to keep Ivy safe."
"So you didn’t know that she would actually go with them... on her own accord?"
"I—" For some reason, the way Matthew asked his questions bothered him. What was he up to? "I didn’t."
"And you are not lying right now?"
"I’m not."
"Is that so?"
"I—" Jude gulped his nonexistent saliva. He was telling the truth but for some reason, Matthew’s eyes made him doubt his own sanity.
Did that even make sense?
"She never told me her plans. She’s been reading about the basic regulations and protocols about Trillium. I just thought she wanted to familiarize herself with work. As my secretary." Jude walked towards his bar and got himself a bottle of whiskey.
This time, he didn’t bother to get a glass and just started gulping down from the bottle instead.
"If you want to kill me... then do it after I drink." He said. That’s right. Matthew’s eyes and his calm demeanor felt more dangerous than when he was... talking to him.
What a lunatic!
How the hell did he end up working with people like them?
"So, where are they keeping her?" Matthew asked.
"If she really went with them then... they must be interrogating her about that explosion. It’s in a highly secured facility in Yukon-Koyukuk, the least populated part of Alaska. Trillium owns a large facility there and— "
"And?"
"You can’t go there."
"What makes you think that I would?" he asked.
"Because— you care for her?"
Matthew clenched his jaw at his words. "She asked me to stay put."
"And you agreed?"
"I tried not to."
"But?"
"I failed."
Jude took another large mouthful of sip from the whiskey. He let the alcohol do its magic inside his body. By now, he wasn’t as nervous as he was when Matthew walked inside his office.
"I don’t understand you people." Jude muttered. How the hell did he end up working with Matthew and Ava? These two were crazy! They were so crazy that they somehow complimented each other.
"So what do you want me to do?" Jude asked. "Stop looking at me like that. I am not that stupid. You walked in my office publicly when you could just use a witch to teleport here. It means you wanted people to know that you are here." ƒгeewёbnovel.com
"I am just here to play my part." Matthew said.
"Part? What part?"
"And I want you to do your part well." Matthew added. And before Jude could respond to him, his door was once again opened with a loud bang. This time, Jude’s father, Leonardo Caro walked in with a serious look on his face.
"Father!"
"What are you doing here..." Leonardo Caro asked. "Lycan Prince?"
