"Where are you taking me?" Ava frowned when Karena harshly pulled her up.
"Out of here?"
"I thought the deputy was coming?"
Karena smiled when she saw Ava face pale."Oh.... He is—" she said. "He’s coming to get you."
"Karena, where are you taking her?" Dr. Waterston barge inside the interrogation room. "I didn’t receive any order about this."
"It’s the Deputy’s order, Mike. Move away."
"I didn’t receive the order."
"I said, the Deputy called me. He asked me to take her away."
"And just as I said, I didn’t receive any formal request!"
Ava lifted an eyebrow at the interesting conversation in front of her. It looked like Mike knew something but he couldn’t really stop Karena. Dr. Waterston was just in charge of helping messed-up agents. He was a well-known psychologist who also took care of everyone’s yearly psych evaluation.
Ava had only met the man twice.
The first was for the mandatory psych evaluation before she became an agent while the other was after the massacre she did in Sierra Leone.
"You can’t take her out."
"Oh?" Karena lifted an eyebrow as she grinned at Dr. Mike. "I wonder... do you really have what it would take to stop me, Mike?"
"I—" Dr. Waterston’s face reddened.
Seeing this, Ava shook her head inwardly. She had heard rumors about the doctor in the past. They said that despite him being with Trillium, the man couldn’t really fight. He was considered a weakling.
The only reason why they hired him was because of his gift.
The man was born to a powerful witch. And he had been blessed with the gift to tell apart lies. He was like a human lie detector.
The thing was, there was one flaw.
Just like a lie detector test, the key to passing his exam was to just believe your own lies to the point where you thought they were the truth.
Did that sound hard?
Not really.
Once you keep on telling yourself the same lie over and over again, you will soon believe it. And once you believe it, that would become your own truth.
This was the reason why Ava was able to fool the man. For someone like Ava who could sense emotions, lying was just a piece of cake. And so was... pretending to tell the truth.
"Right... you can’t." Karena suddenly shoved the doctor out of her way and dragged Ava who was in handcuffs out of the room.
"Where are you taking me?" Ava asked.
"You will know soon."
When Ava realized that the woman wasn’t taking her in the direction of the prison cells, she frowned. "Where are you taking me?" she asked for the second time.
The thing was, Karena was taking her towards the exit!
This time, Karena said nothing. She just forcefully dragged Ava towards the exit then towards the parking lot and shoved her into a black Mercedes Benz.
"This—" Ava showed a look of panic when she saw that the deputy was not inside the car. "What— where is he?"
Again, her questions were met with silence.
"Where is the deputy?" Ava asked.
Karena snorted as she sat on the front seat.
"Hey!"
Ava yelled when the car started moving. Her calm expression distorted into a panicky one.
"Karena? Where is the deputy director?"
"You didn’t expect it, did you?" Karena looked at her. She had a smirk on her face. "You didn’t expect that we would take you out, right?"
"You— "
"When I said that he was going to see you, did you assume that he would step inside a highly secured facility where everything else could be monitored?" Karena snorted. "How foolish."
"What are you—"
"Shut your arrogant mouth, V. Or I will kill you now that we are already out of that facility!"
Ava immediately shut her lips. She wondered where the woman is taking her. Was the video not enough after all? Ava looked outside of the car, she lifted her gaze and immediately saw the moon.
New Moon.
It was beautiful.
Then she started to wonder where Matthew was.
Ava closed her eyes.
There was no point in thinking about things that she couldn’t control anymore.
"Ava?"
Ava’s eyebrow furrowed when she heard the Shaman’s voice.
The old man’s voice immediately echoed inside her head the moment she closed her eyes. This time, Ava was sure she was not asleep. She could hear everything. The sound of the cars, the soft music inside the car, and even her own breathing.
She was not sleeping at all!
This only means one thing; she was not dreaming.
"Ava... l" Shaman Gaas said. "Matthew sent forty of his men towards the correction facility. They will arrive anytime soon."
Ava’s face turned uglier. She had thought that Matthew would be rational enough. Both of them knew that he couldn’t just declare war against Trillium!
"I wasn’t able to convince him." The Shaman added.
Sadly, Ava didn’t know how to talk to the Shaman.
"He told me it isn’t going to do anything that would harm you. But... ah... this is tiring. Why did I involve myself in something like this? I am too old to fight against people." Shaman Gaas blurted. "I know you don’t want me to get involved but if this goes on..."
Ava gulped.
The old man had told Ava he wasn’t going to join her fight. He was too old, too feeble. The only good thing about him was that he could walk through people’s dreams and visit other planes. Of course, Ava understood this. fгeewebnovёl.com
After all, this was her fight.
This was for her mother and Phil.
If only she could talk to Matthew now...
No. What would she say to him?
That she planned this all by herself because she knew he was going to stop her? That it was better for her to tell Jude about her plan to destroy Trillium from the inside than to talk to Matthew about it?
For some reason, Ava’s chest started aching. It felt like someone was stepping on her chest. She took a few short breaths to calm herself.
Matthew might be her mate but... that didn’t mean she would immediately trust the man to do everything for her sake. They were both logical people. There was no way that this mating thing was going to automatically make her submit to him.
Maybe this was because she was not a shifter.
Maybe this was because she was different from a normal witch.
Either way, she was sure that what she did upset Matthew.
But she was prepared to face the consequences of her own actions.
