"Well that was quick," Ava smiled at Dr. Mike Waterston who had just walked inside the interrogation room. "I was hoping I could sleep inside the tombs."
Dr. Waterston shook his head. Then he sat opposite to Ava. "The Deputy is going to speak to you."
"Of Operations?"
"Yes."
"And the others?"
"I’m not sure yet." Dr. Waterston uttered. "The video that you released... we deleted it."
"But the damage has been done, right?" Ava smiled. "The world is evolving. We really need to catch up to technology."
"You could get the death penalty for doing that."
"That won’t happen."
"Why is that?"
Ava shrugged in response.
"What makes you think that a video could stop them from killing you?"
Ava leaned forwards and gave the man a warm smile. "It’s not."
"Then? Why did you have to be so... careless?"
Ava pursed her lips in response. "The Deputy... isn’t going to be here to help me out, Mike."
Dr. Waterston frowned at that.
"Surprised?"
"What are you doing, V?"
"Nothing."
"I don’t think you would do something without a proper plan."
Both of them stopped talking when the door opened. Karena Spencer walked inside with a dark look on her face.
"Get out Mike."
"What?"
"You are not supposed to be here. The Deputy is coming."
"With all due respect Karena— "
"I said get out!"
Dr. Waterston stared at Ava. "I hope I will see you again, V. I really do." With that, the doctor left.
After the door closed, Karena took something out from her pocket. A small rectangular remote control. After pressing one button, the two-way mirror disappeared, showing them the other side of the room.
"Get out," Karena ordered the men who were monitoring the conversation. "It was the Deputy’s order."
Ava’s lips twitched. Still, she observed Karena’s expression.
"How does it feel, V?" Karena asked. "Winning."
"I don’t know what you are talking about."
"The Deputy is going to talk to you." Karena leaned back. Then she rested her feet on the table in a relaxed manner. "You won."
Ava said nothing. Did she really win?
No. This is just the prelude.
The start.
There will be more to come.
"The Lycans threatened Mr. Caro," Karena said. "He threatened to expose the community if you we decide to keep you. Of course, I find this very strange. To be honest, I never expected that a Lycan would try to threaten Trillium."
When Ava maintained her silence, Karena continued. "You must be really good in bed." Karena chuckled. "For a Lycan prince to foolishly use his influence to threaten us.... I mean... that’s a big deal, V."
Ava said nothing in response.
"But men are men, V. I mean, you are beautiful and all but did you really think he would sacrifice everything to save you?"
Instead of saying anything, Ava closed her eyes. This conversation was pointless.
So far, her plans had been going well. However, she still couldn’t forget what the Shaman had told her earlier in her dream.
She couldn’t help but wonder about their actual plans.
She could only hope that Matthew would listen to the Shaman’s words.
In fact, the only person who knew about Ava’s real plan was Shaman Gaas. Not even Baba knew what she was thinking. But the old man just had a knack for reading her like a book.
Maybe it was because of his old age, or maybe because they were both dream walkers. Either way, Ava was forced to give up her real plan to the old man. In response to her ’trust’, the old man promised to help her out by talking to Matthew.
The old man was the only reason Ava’s plan had been successful... so far.
"What? You really are going to pretend that you are relevant?" Karena scoffed. "Just a mere officer who doesn’t know her place."
"Karena..." Ava uttered as she opened her eyes. "What happened to you?" she asked.
Karena guffawed at her words. "Lunatic."
"Right... of course, nothing happened. You were already like this." Ava said. "Nothing really changed."
"For someone who always looked down on everyone else. You really have the nerve to ask me, what happened to me."
"Look down on everyone else?"
"You don’t know? Right... Arrogant people don’t really know they are arrogant." Karena let out another chuckle before she added. "You know what people inside Trillium call you, V?"
When Ava didn’t answer, Karena added. "Lunatic V."
"Sounds like the name of a spaceship," Ava said before her mind could stop her.
*BANG*
Karena’s palm hit the table.
"You really are looking down on everyone," Karena said. "Hypocrite."
Ava nodded at that. "There are only two kinds of people in the supernatural world, Karena. The weak and the strong. If you are not strong, then you are weak. If you are not weak, then you are strong. There is just no in between."
For instance, her father was weak. So he died.
The shifters or hybrids who killed her father were strong, so they won.
Gabriella was weak. So she died.
In fact, things weren’t that complicated in the world of supernaturals.
It just so happened that Ava wasn’t weak.
Was that a sin?
No.
So, should she hide the fact that she could easily kill supernaturals?
No.
Did she like it?
Not particularly.
Did she regret killing those people?
No.
But is she proud of that?
Definitely not.
The thing is, the moment you kill someone, you lose something inside you. Something that you didn’t even know you needed.
That was hard.
And it wasn’t something to be proud of.
"Arrogant bitch!"
Ava smiled.
Was it her fault that she was born powerful?
Nope. Definitely not.
The thing about someone like Ava was the fact that all her actions would be taken as arrogance. Especially if it was from the perspective of someone who had been jealous of her.
"You really think that you won, right?" Karena smiled. She got up and leaned forward. "You have no idea, Ava. You have no idea about the trouble you are in."
In response, Ava nodded. "You are right," she smiled at Karena.
